RSS feed

2008-05-14 Thread Tony Maro
Hey guys n gals - this is request #2 (the first was through the RSS feed TBH
and may have been missed).

Since I migrated my site to a new server and new software a few weeks ago,
the Maemo portion of my RSS feed is no longer available as a separate feed.
The Maemo website has picked up the 403 redirect to my new server and is
feeding all my blog posts and not just the Maemo related stuff like it used
to.

The RSS link is not part of my maemo.org account, so I can't disable it
myself apparently. If someone would be so kind as to drop the maro.net URL
then the rest of my open source and life related posts will stop showing on
Planet Maemo where they don't really belong.

When I can figure out how to get an RSS feed on just one topic back out of
Drupal, I'll submit a separate RSS link later that will be Maemo only.

Thanks!

RE: maemo Bug Jar #4

2008-05-14 Thread quim.gil
Thanks! Very useful already and hopefully it will be even better as we
do more Jar iterations.

Suggestions for improvement:

- Separate bugs and enhancement requests properly, since they have
different degrees of urgency, the level of responsibility on them is
different and in fact they follow different processes internally. It is
not always easy to differentiate a bug from a feature request and many
enhancement requests are minor and totally based on small fixes a
developer alone can do, but this is the work of the persons dealing with
the bug report, not a problem in this report.

This is most visible in the "Ten biggest open bugs by number of votes"
and "Ten biggest open bugs by importance", where each enhancement
request there is actually taking the place of a bug that would deserve
more visibility. otoh it is easy to generate top 10 feature requests
tables.

- Highlight what is new and major-critical-blocker. Sometimes it helps
addressing issues sooner and better, sometimes it helps assigning the
right severity.

- Of course graphs showing the basic history are always useful. For
instance, having trends, seeing if things go better or worse, see the
impact of i.e. the Diablo release in the numbers... All this would help
us pointing out to people inside Nokia what is going on in the wide
picture.

>This summary is also available on Internet Tablet Talk:
>1#post181821

What about keeping the history in the new maemo.org MediaWiki.

Thanks again for your time and help.

A Quick Look at maemo Bugzilla (http://bugs.maemo.org/)
2008.05.08 through 2008.05.14

An explanation: A short time ago, I started posting a weekly summary
of activity in maemo Bugzilla to Internet Tablet Talk. My goal has
been to increase participation in Bugzilla by the community of users
that frequent that site. This week, I was contacted by an @maemo.org
person (name withheld to protect the guilty) and asked to begin
posting a version of the summary to this mailing list. I'm new to
Bugzilla myself and figuring everything out as I go along, so I'd
appreciate your feedback. That includes telling me to never bother the
list with this sort of thing again, if that's your preference. Thank
you.

First version, "Questions for Nokia"

2008-05-14 Thread Dave Neary
Hi,

I don't think the name is ideal, but I just created a first draft of a
"Questions for Nokia" page in the wiki:
https://maemo.org/community/wiki/questionsfornokia/

The questions that were asked during the IRC session and on the mailing
list, which didn't get answered, are here.

If I have missed a question, please shout. Or better still, add it to
the wiki page.

I (or Quim?) will update the page with the answers when we get them.

Cheers,
Dave.

The comments also 'capture' the fun that is gentoo organisation ATM,
but I think the ideas are worthwhile.

Some tips on how they do meetings for Gentoo...

An agenda that is set before hand (such as the list of questions
already compiled) would probably have been more effective for one
person to really answer properly. It does mean that spur-of-the-moment
things sometimes need to be squashed, but if this is going to be a
regular (or more than one time) thing then they can always be added to
the next agenda.

Moderated voice in the channel is probably also more effective as
there was a lot of off topic conversation that didn't need to be
there. At least people can then take the time to say something in full
without ten lines of off topic conversation in between. Also helps
when reviewing the conversation after.

Just my 2 cents

Regarding what we're doing at LinuxTag, we didn't get round to

people started leaving). We'll have to reschedule a chat about that.

Hopefully a more complete log is available as Quim kept answering the
backlog of questions up until that point (i.e. beyond the end of that
log).

We'll also have to think about a better way of organising IRC meetings
- it must have been rather painful for Quim writing answers to
questions asked ~10min previously, and then missing the comments
people made as he answered (and also confusing for people asking
questions, wondering why they weren't being answered straight away).
Someone suggested a separate chat channel and a channel simply for
questions.

Regards,

Simon

Something is here
http://maemo.org/maemo-meeting/maemo-meeting-2008-05-13.html
but it appears to be cut at midnight. I couldn't attend so actually I'm
not sure if there was anything interesting past midnight.

It was a Q&A session, mostly - any questions that Quim didn't/couldn't
answer will be going on a list that we will follow up with Nokia.

Niels kept a log and will be posting it (or a trimmed version) in due time.

Cheers,
Dave.
