Re: MADDE 'developer' account - good or bad?

2010-09-26 Thread ronan.maclaverty
Hi,
Earlier in the summer I tried with "root" using the password authentication
scheme - it worked. If you use "user" then you do not need to use the key
mechanism, the password does not change frequently like the "developer"
password.

(I haven't tried the "user" account or the key scheme with any account other
than "developer", so I don't know if this helps your case.)

RE: callingallinnovators maemo winner??

2010-09-21 Thread ronan.maclaverty
Hi all,
From the calling all innovators website:
http://www.callingallinnovators.com/

Best application for the Nokia N900 (prize will be split between two
developers): Stellarium Mobile by Fabien Chéreau (Germany) and FrontView900 by
Ben Lau (Hong Kong)

Congratulations!!!

Ronan.

PS The graphics inside Stellarium and the clever use of the affine transform in
FrontView are both really cool.

After some checking with the organizers I understand that the story is this:

The N900 prize money will be awarded, but not right away. The reason is that
the jury is still deciding on some of the sub-categories and they want to
announce the all the winners together. Does that make sense?

I have prompted them for a date, hopefully soon.

N900 developers - 9 days left for Nokia's Calling all innovators competition.

2010-06-02 Thread ronan.maclaverty
Hi all,

Nokia's Call All Innovators competition closes in 9 days (including one
weekend!), and it has a section devoted to the best N900 application with a
prize of $50,000. Additionally, the competition organizers will help the top
submissions get onto the Ovi Store, which now supports paid content. So, in
addition to the possibility to win prizes, there is a chance to earn some
money.

If you have an innovative idea in the areas of Eco/Being Green, Entertainment,
Life Improvement, or Productivity, enter the competition. The measurement
criteria are quality, uniqueness, commercial viability, and usability. Looking
at the innovation in extra-devel, an N900 application would have a real shot at
winning the main prize in one of these categories too.

So, check out www.callingallinnovators.com and submit your application before
midnight (EDT) on 10 June 2010; the clock is ticking..

Regards,

Ronan.

RE: Why should I write apps for Maemo?

2010-05-12 Thread ronan.maclaverty
Hi,
AFAIK PR1.2 needs to be released before paid content will be available.
This should be done this month (if everything go to plan - which is has not
done so far).

Ronan.

PS Michael you can contact me, and I will redirect you to the right person if I
do not know the answer.

RE: maemo-developers Digest, Vol 61, Issue 9

Hi,

The Qt SDK Beta is in addition to scratchbox, so it can be seen as a new more
user friendly developer environment.

AFAIK, not all the APIs will be exposed in the SDK, and for some work
(especially on the platform itself) the Qt SDK might not be the best. It is
primarily designed to support application developers working on top of the
platform.

MADDE is a critical part of the Qt SDK, so it will be around for a good while.

Release dates are notoriously difficult to predict, however, AFAIU, the Qt SDK
with Qt4.7 should be available close to the Maemo with Qt4.7 release date.
