[maemo-developers] Unresolved issues (Week 44)

2006-11-06 Thread Tommi Komulainen
Here is a list of issues raised on this list I think have not been
concluded so far, in no particular order. The easiest way to get off the
list is to provide answers, but you can also try convincing me other
ways.

This is an attempt to improve our communication by providing a short
summary reminder for busy people to act on. I'll try to keep up with the
experiment for a few weeks and see what happens.

Many issues resolved since last week, which is good. Keep it up. OTOH
issues still keep on building up. Argh. Please, think of the kittens.

Keeping the softkeypad from going away.
4th mention

How can you keep the softkeypad from going away in a hildon
application written in python?

  * http://maemo.org/pipermail/maemo-developers/2006-October/005797.html
building an application with custom kernel-headers
3rd mention

gcc (/scratchbox/compilers/bin/sb_gcc_wrapper) can't find a
definition from custom kernel-headers? Works with pure arm
compiler.

End-user roadmap?
3rd mention

What's the future with the 770? When is the next Maemo or IT
(2006) OS release planned? When are end users going to see an
update?

(Software update was released 2nd November. No mention of
roadmap.)

  * http://maemo.org/pipermail/maemo-developers/2006-October/005813.html
Maemo and Ubuntu Edgy: Is it safe?
(USB API changed in Edgy. As a result the flasher stopped
working.)
3rd mention

Why is the flasher not open source?

(One possible explanation is the cold flashing feature which
might require (possibly TI proprietary) ROM code:
http://maemo.org/pipermail/maemo-developers/2006-October/005990.html)

  * http://maemo.org/pipermail/maemo-developers/2006-October/005827.html
spam at maemo wiki
3rd mention

Any news on getting spam at maemo wiki under control?

  * http://maemo.org/pipermail/maemo-developers/2006-October/005947.html
Not getting bugzilla notifications

Is bugzilla sending notifications?

  * http://maemo.org/pipermail/maemo-developers/2006-October/005976.html
Proper version of scratchbox? suse 9.2?

crazy bugs after following the tutorial to the letter. 2.6.18

Scary message at the end of flashing

Sending request 0x83 failed: Invalid or incomplete multibyte or

  * http://maemo.org/pipermail/maemo-developers/2006-November/006033.html
Connectivity API: ( osso_iap_connect() ), cannot see generated events

connected callback does not ever get any signals, like
OSSO_IAP_CONNECTED, OSSO_IAP_DISCONNECTED or
OSSO_IAP_STATISTICS.

  * http://maemo.org/pipermail/maemo-developers/2006-November/006046.html
where is the busybox source?

busybox tarball from busybox site is not what dpkg expects:
dpkg-source: error: file busybox_1.01.orig.tar.gz has size 115
instead of expected 1170390

(It'll probably be available in the soon to be released maemo
sdk:

  * http://maemo.org/pipermail/maemo-developers/2006-October/005985.html

Does OMAP 1710 support multiblock writes safely?

Resolved since last week:

microphone recording quality

Recording sampling rate is limited in software to 8kHz due to
some constraints on the DSP side.

2.6.18 is known to break Scratchbox, given that they decided to randomly
change /proc's behaviour.

However, just looking at the error messages, it would almost certainly
be not having the right components in pkg-config, given the crazy
GNOMEish namespacing everything uses this week.

Cheers,

BTW, is there any working solution to this problem? (Except from downgrading
the kernel).

Scratchbox Apophis is not affected by the 2.6.18 bug. The latest release,
Apophis R4 also fixes the issues with ubuntu edgy and supports armel +
maemo 2.0 toolchains.

It includes the 2GB patch -- it was mentioned in the changelog.

The question about high-speed MMC access is still unresolved.

No it is not there. It is not bugfix and would require extensive testing
so this can be expected. Making hack that works for most people is one
thing. Making it official feature that is guaranteed to work is
something different. Even if the feature will be part of mainline kernel
it is still a question whether MMC controller in OMAP1710 is guaranteed
to work at 48Mhz since it wasn't probably designed with high speed mmc
modes in mind.

Something you can add which should be in your list is Bluetooth headset
support.  See:  http://maemo.org/maemowiki/BluetoothHeadset
