Hi,

Ok, let's do that then. (Do we need to register the BoF ahead of time?)

That all depends - if you want the BOF to be on the schedule and have a
room you can use, then yes. If you want to gather key people during the
conference and pull a few chairs together, then no.

I'd just like to point out that the content committee have done our best
to accommodate things like this, but demand is high, and space is at a
premium now, and we are about to close out the schedule.

Cheers,
Dave.

Ok. I'll register the BoF then and leave it to you to decide whether it
is important enough to reserve a room for it.

Hmm, I am not sure how to proceed now. I made a new section on

http://wiki.maemo.org/Talk:Maemo_Summit_2009/Submissions

for Proposed BoFs. Is that enough? Or is it too late?

I am only worried about being able to get the word out that there is a
BoF, and where it is once I have found a place at the venue.

Here is the proposal:

What to do about /opt in Fremantle

Proposer: Marius Vollmer

Description: For Fremantle, packages in the Extras repository are
asked to install files into /opt to make better use of the available
flash space. This BoF is an opportunity to discuss everything
related to this, immediate next steps and long term solutions,
according to the interest of the participants.

Actually, that page (the Talk: page) was where the content committee
evaluated proposals from

http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo_Summit_2009/Submissions

but that page is now protected, since the deadline is passed.

I'll tell you what - I'll take this email as a proposal, and if we have
any BOF space left after fitting in all the content we've already
accepted, you can have it.

Cheers,
Dave.

Sounds good. I've added an optify facility to MUD, so that if you
specify optify=1 in the XML file, it'll stick maemo-optify into
debian/rules in the appropriate place.

Interestingly, my first with it seemed to move the stuff into /opt
correctly, but didn't put any symlinks in. Perhaps because it was
trying to do it on a directory which already existed from a previous
version?

Cheers,

Andrew

Cool. I think the biggest open question is how to avoid forking a
package just for to include maemo-optify in debian/rules.

Hmm, maemo-optify is of course quite untested, especially from inside
debian/rules. This particular behavior doesn't ring any bells,
unfortunately. The script itself is very simple, so it might be a good
idea to put some prints into it, if it confuses you.

On that point, can you upload it to Extras for *diablo*? I want to
have a single Build-Depends if I can avoid it, but now my test package
won't build in the diablo autobuilder :-(

Will do. We can think about whether to modify its behavior later on.
I.e., the default on Diablo might be to not do anything.

I think this is an excellent idea: I have followed the whole thread
