Planet Post : Midgard and the Law of Karma ...
Hi, I've just see the post on the maemo planet Midgard and the Law of Karma. Great news ! (http://maemo.org/profile/list) But i think it's need some adjustment. Why ? I'm in the top 25 with a Karma of 116 :) I'm happy to see me in the top 25. I think some of my products can be usefull, specially for developpers, but some others people made greats products for all user of the maemo tablet, like 'David Hautbois'. He ve created 'Ermining', a small tool to synchronize gpe-calendar with google agenda. Many people seems to use his software and he is only in the third page with a Karma of 56. So, all of this to say that i think it ll be usefull if there is a rating on software between maemo garage member to adjust Karma. Maybe it s not a good thing, maybe there are other solutions, i just made a suggestion to discuss about possibilities. But like i've said, it a great improvement for maemo community. I've also another suggestion for the public profile, does it possible to add the project where a member participate ? It's difficult at this time to find in witch projects a member is active. And if i understand, there ll be also a link with external board like internettablettalk ? Thanks again. -- Benoît HERVIER http://khertan.net/ ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users

Hi, have you tried Jalimo? I've got something running (CLI) when i last tried it... That looks a bit off-to-the-side with rather too many bells and whistles. They appear to be pursuing the development of Java-like GUI packages, whereas all I want is a plain commandline JRE. There was one for the Zaurus, which is an ARM chip, so it can't be impossible. then jalimo can do it. i tried it via command line and stuffs that works for us on desktop ran well on N800 too. regards, wahlau ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users

problems with installing tapioca
Hi, I need to install a VOIP client on the N770. I need an application whose source code is available and the application should be in such a way that i am able to extend and customize it to my use. I found Tapioca that perfectly suited all my needs. But I am not able to install it on my N770. I have the OS 2006. I also tried on the OS 2007. url : http://www.maemo.org.br/VoIP/apt/ distribution : mistral components : main but it says cannot refresh package. I did try installing it through the terminal but since i do not have root access to the device it does not allow me to do an apt-update. When i checked the URL i realized that under distributions there isint any mistral and i couldnt find any ARM based .deb files, all the deb files were for i386. I am not sure if i am missing something in my installtion, or is it that tapioca no longer works. I am not sure what the problem is, I kindly request for some help. We would appreciate any pointers to documentation or other suggestions for making these changes. I haven't found much useful information on these changes using Google. There are three specific issues in GPE applications... 1) This must be the easiest: the code currently turns off capitalisation in a hildon input window using: g_object_set (G_OBJECT (w), HILDON_AUTOCAP, FALSE, NULL); Is there an equivalent of this in Chinook? Please see http://live.gnome.org/Maemo/Gtk210Migration#M24 In general it's a good idea to run hildon-audit in your code, it should point out all these issues (https://stage.maemo.org/svn/maemo/projects/haf/trunk/hildon-audit/) See http://live.gnome.org/Hildon/TwoPointZero for a general overview of the changes. Btw, I think 2 out of 3 of your problems have been deprecated since Bora at least :) Cheers, Xan 2) hildon-app and hildon-appview seem to have gone away. Any guide to porting that code to use hildon-program and hildon-window? 3) hildon-home-plugin seems to have disappeared. I presume this mechanism has changed. Any guide to how to port that code? By the way, if you have access to a device running chinook and would be interested in helping test the GPE port, let me know. N800 Mail Question
I don't use Claws. I use the mail program that came with the N800. Prior to the release I installed in August (not the recent patch release) I could tell the mail program not to automatically poll for mail. Under 'tools', 'settings' there is a checkbox to 'update automatically.' It is unchecked; however, mail still polls as long as a network connection exists. This is very frustrating. Is anyone else having this problem? Even if I were to upgrade to Claws, that wouldn't stop this mail package from polling... Is there a known problem with WPA authentication? Or am I doing something obviously wrong? I'm not aware of any big problems with WPA authentication. With EAP there's always a Radius server involved, so maybe this is a some kind of interoperability problem with the Radius server? Problem solved. When you edit a WPA connection, and get to the end, and click on Advanced, and click on the EAP tab to set the parameters, the Require client authentication is ambiguous, as I mentioned. If you leave it unchecked, then when you try to connect, you get the error message saying that it can't find a certificate to validate the server. I then clicked Cancel, as it was obvious that connection had failed. Wrong. The message is a comment only: if you click on OK it goes right ahead and connects just fine. This is suboptimal :-) client-server authentication with certificates (either way) is an option in WPA, as far as I understand it (which may not be far) and both should be checkable options in the EAP tab mentioned above: Require client to authenticate server Require server to authenticate client That way you shouldn't get an error message box for something which isn't an error :-) I had to set Manual Username (as I had guessed: I think this is the same thing that NetworkManager refers to as Anonymous Identity), but I also had to set the proxy manually to the IP address of the proxy server, as auto-detect doesn't seem to detect anything, and setting it to the cname of the proxy server doesn't seem to work either. But it's working now, and very many thanks to everyone for their help. ///Peter ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users

RE: N800 Mail Question
Thanks, Fred. That is what I do also; however, I also travel a lot and whenever the mail package polls it lights up the screen (even when locked). I use my N800 as my alarm clock and having the screen 'awake' when it polls (actually when it finds an e-mail to download) is very irritating as I shutdown my e-mail package @ home when I'm on the road. I do agree about setting a default mail program - that would be a great feature! Nokia.. :-) And there's no question about the seamless upgrades - totally agree. Re: N800 Mail Question
If you're passionate about this email problem/feature, another option might be to create an unused email account that you can use as your default email account. While it would get polled, there wouldn't be anything there. Then manually switch to your email account of choice to get you emails. For example,, get ourself a gmail address. You can then use this email to access google docs, which gives your n800 access to something like Open Office -- a free open source Office Suite of reasonable quality that can edit and look and save at MS Office docs online, plus convert, share and save them as pdf files. -- Always Fred Chittenden, DDS [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
