Re: WiFi borked after update
Hi, Re-reading the original post seems to indicate that I encountered a totally different issue than what was described. For me the all the required packages were downloaded nicely, but the installation failed. No idea why it failed, but the good thing is that nobody else has been able to reproduce it. On Tue, 2008-09-30 at 19:37 +0300, ext Marius Vollmer wrote: First try # dpkg --configure -a Marius and I suspect that if I had tried with 'apt-get -f install' or 'apt-get upgrade' immediately after or instead of the above command, I would have been able to succeed in the installation. That can't of course be verified anymore, as my device is working again. The repository also got a minor changed in form of a symlink to guard against potential installation failures like this one. If I hadn't had my device configured with root login enabled, I would have been reflashing the release instead. That's why there is a note recommending backing up your stuff before upgrading :-). As mentioned in another thread here for at least two persons (me for example) this happened and when rebooting manually (which probably was not the clever thing to do) I got into a reboot loop and had to reflash. There is one stupid bug in the Application manager that I suspect might be to blame for some of the failures. If you have broken packages on your device, that might trick the AM into believing that an OS update will succeed while in reality it will fail with missing dependencies, conflicts or similar. Here are the details, in case you are interested: Unlike apt-get, the AM tries to ignore broken packages so that, for example, a broken maemomapper installation does not prevent a OS upgrade. When preparing the OS update (or any other package operation), the AM 'simulates' what would happen to the dependencies, and if any package is broken by the simulation, the OS update is not done. The stupid thing is this: in order to ignore packages that are already broken before the simulation, the AM remembers the number of broken packages before the simulation, and if there are _more_ packages broken after the simulation, the operation is rejected. Now, it can happen that the simulated operation fixes some of the previously broken packages, and breaks some others. Thus, the number of broken packages can be the same or even lower eventho the operation should be rejected. re: Failed to upgrade to OS2008 4.2008.36-5
Yes I had problems too. I had to create a backup, flash back to the original diablo, then let it update the first time, update to this version, then restore my apps. This update appears to have a memory problem. My thought is this to Nokia. I've got an 8g external card sitting there with 7g's free and the unit is running out of memory to perform the upgrade.. tim Original Message From: Morgan Collett [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, October 02, 2008 6:55 AM To: maemo-users users maemo-users@maemo.org Subject: Failed to upgrade to OS2008 4.2008.36-5 My N810 shows OS2008 Feature upgrade version 4.2008.36-5 is available, but it always fails to install in Application manager.
