Resurrecting Conversations history

2010-06-10 Thread Dawid Lorenz
I've just bumped into a problem with Conversations application on my N900.
When I launch it, I can see all conversations as usual, but when I select
specific conversation it opens up empty. When I send (or receive) message, I
can see that new message under given contact in all conversations view, but
not in single conversation view (it's just empty).

How to bring Conversations app back to normal behaviour, yet *without*
rebooting device (I am collecting nightly sp-endurance snapshot and I don't
want to break them with reboot now)?

Wait... it seems this issue has fixed by itself and now I can properly see
everything in Conversations. Go figure!

Worth noting that PID of rtcom-messaging-ui has changed in between, without
me doing anything (killall in particular). WTF?!

excluding podcasts from the overview in the MediaPlayer

2010-06-10 Thread Klaus Umbach
Hi,

I use gpodder to download podcasts and listen to them with the regular
MediaPlayer. However it is very annoying to have 100 Episodes of different
podcasts with different Artists in regular list of artists and albums.

Is it possible to tell the MediaPlayer to ignore podcasts in its browser?

You can configure the paths that tracker scans and ignores by editing
/home/user/.config/tracker/tracker.cfg or install the package
tracker-cfg which will give you a GUI for editing the tracker
settings.

Specifically you want to add /home/user/MyDocs/Podcasts to the
NoWatchDirectory line in tracker.cfg :)

Thanks! This makes the MediaPlayer much more comfortable.

Opera Mini for N900/Meego

2010-06-10 Thread Bernard Tyers
Hi there,

A friend of mine, a potential N900 user, asked me today if Opera Mini was
available for the N900.

AFAIK it is not. I know Opera Mobile 10 is available (and works nicely), but he
wanted to use Mini for its proxying feature.

Does anyone know if Opera Mini will be released for Maemo/Meego?

thanks in advance
Bernard

Opera Mini is a J2ME app, so the only chance to run it would be in
MicroEmulator but AFAIK that's not really very usable in most cases.

If the proxying feature is using opera's proxy to save bandwidth,
Opera Mobile on N900 has this feature already. Go to settings and
enable Opera Turbo.

I doubt it.

I believe that Opera Mobile in Turbo Mode is the same as Opera Mini's
proxying feature. You'll need to double check that with how it actually
works, but that's my understanding.

It's the same Turbo mode their other browsers uses, shown at
http://www.opera.com/browser/turbo/

There is a long thread at talk.maemo.org with the Opera devs who may
be able to answer any specific problems with it.

Is it possible to install a modified version of Modest mail?

2010-06-10 Thread Luis Listas

Hello all

I really would like to use my N900 to check my mail all the time. I
thought that after PR 1.2 there would be an option to somehow place
limits on the downloaded messages. Since it seems to be none, I can't
use it because my data plan is too expensive for emails that include
Video and PPS attachements.

I was wondering... I could, in theory, make a quick hack to the email
client application to query the total size before downloading anything
and just refuse to download stuff larger than some Kbytes. I could do
better (still in theory): check the current connection type and respect
the limits only when not in wifi.

If I did it, how could I install that application (since it is an
official application)?

What are your thought on this?

Cheers,
Luis
