Navit in n810

2008-03-12 Thread Alfredo J. Fabretti
Hello,

For those like me that own the N810 but doesn't live in a country
supported by the included Map (Wayfinder) application, there's a
project called "Navit" (http://navit.sourceforge.net/?page=home) that
supports Garmin vector maps and can be compiled and used in Nokia
internet tablets. If someone lives in Argentina, there's a free
project (http://www.proyectomapear.com.ar/) that provides complete
maps of Argentina in Garmin format.

  Instructions for compilation here:

There's an open project in garage but no deb package is available.

This sounds like a truly "killer app", as it uses vector maps rather
than converting everything to raster as Maemo Mapper does. However, I
can't get it to build and install, an the documentation is currently
extremey thin.

I'll try to make a deb package for OS2008 and post it somewhere. The
UI needs some cleaning up but it works pretty well. I contacted the
guy in charge of libgarmin and says that routing is at 90% functional,
so it's a matter of time to see it working at 100% in our tablets.

Hello, you can find the packages here: http://www.tecdencia.net/navit/

Thanks! I installed libgarmin, but unfortunately there seems to be
something wrong with the NavIT download link; I get this message:
"Not Acceptable
An appropriate representation of the requested resource
/navit/downloads/navit-cvs20080313.deb could not be found on this
server."

How hard is it to build and package these? Would it be an imposition to
ask for a step-by-step? I tried to build NavIT but got stuck with some
errors. I probably didn't know enough to properly set all the options
in the config files.

The reason I'm asking is that if I can see what I did wrong with this,
it may help me build other apps in the future.

Thanks,
Mark

Hello Mark,

Try again with the download please.
  For compilation check this page
http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Navit_on_n770/n800
I'm working on a new gui for the internet tablet, it's a bit
difficult now to see the status bar when driving a car so I'll make
another layout with bigger texts and graphics.

Mark, you need to start gpsd or the included map application. Navit
doesn't start gpsd by itself.
Regarding maps, check in the menu "Map" if you see map list, if not
that means that something is missing.
