You should be able to upgrade to the new version (3.2007.10-7). It
might be enough to fix the problem.

In trying to flash, I never got beyond the Suitable USB
device not found, waiting point. Now, the N800 will no
longer power up via the power button. It will sometimes
(briefly) display the opening Nokia
screen when the external power is plugged in (or wiggled).

Sounds like you also run out of battery. Have you tried switching the
device to RD-mode with the flasher tool? It workarounds some powerup
problems in the old image (fixed in new image). That might allow you
to recharge and reflash the device. Be sure to disable RD-mode
afterwards!

If that doesn't help, there's not much you can do I'm afraid.

Is it time to send it to Nokia?

I wonder what the hardware failure rate on these things is?

Did you:
- plug in USB cable
- keep home key pressed down
- press power button until the device screen lits up
?

The device needs to be powered on, otherwise it cannot
be found on USB.

If the device doesn't have enough battery to appear on the USB
and keep up long enough so that flasher would find it, only thing
that can be done is to change into the device a battery that has
been charged somewhere else (e.g. battery from one of the N-series
phones).

My face is red! I was using a not-Nokia charger and it apparently
wasn't charging reliably even though the N800 was telling me that it
was charging. I, in error, assumed that it would be charged after
spending a night on the charger. Confounding the problem was the lack
of any indication of battery state prior to a successful boot; that is,
you can't tell if your battery is charged until AFTER it boots
successfully.

Anyway, I located the Nokia charger, charged overnight, booted
successfully, then flashed to the new image. All seems well. I am
greatly enjoying the new camera application.

Good that the problem was solved! It's always a good idea to use Nokia
chargers and batteries ;-)

Hm. I would have thought that it could be able to tell whether charging
actually happens or not. Maybe you could file a bug to Bugzilla and
mention there the model of the charger you were using (and maybe where
you got it)?

dead N800

I just recharged my new N800 and found that it won't boot. Push power

back in. Is there anything else I should try?

mine did the same, tried to reflash with no results, in this
list I was suggested to activate RD mode but I already
sent my N800 to service...
