[Mageia-dev] Freeze push: gmic

2013-03-25 Thread Matteo Pasotti
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello,
can someone push gmic, please?
Version 1.5.5.0 fixes some regressions and some bugs. It also adds few
new features and it introduces some changes I pointed out below.

Changes:
- - Command '-richardson_lucy' has been renamed to '-deblur', as the
implemented method was *not* the one from Richardson-Lucy, as J←rome B.
pointed out to me.
- - Slight improvements of the debug messages, when using command '-debug'.
- - When trying to read a .pdf file as an image (using external call to
'convert'), the image resolution is now better.
- - Various optimizations of some native and custom commands have been done.

Bug fixes:
- - Fixed regression in 1.5.4.0 : saving animated gif was not working
anymore.
- - Fixed regression in 1.5.4.0 : command '-gimp_list_filters' was not
working anymore.
- - Fixed bug in -type' command which was preventing things like this
working as expected : gmic -repeat 2 -type short -type float -done
(Thanks to Jerome B. for having noticed this!).
- - Fixed bug in '-polygon'. Particular cases of complex polygons were not
displaying correctly.
- - Fixed bug in PPM loader. PPM files generated by some tools by SONY
were not readable.
- - Added additional memory checking to avoid segfault when incorrectly
dealing with shared images.

 Hello, can someone push nomacs, please? Version 1.0.0 ships with

 version 0.4.0).
 The point of a version freeze is not let's bring as much
 improvements and bugfixes as possible, but let's make sure that
 was is supposed to be working now still works tomorrow.

 So the magic keywords would rather be nothing depends on nomacs,
 I'm the maintainer, and I commit myself to fix every potential
 issues arising thereafter.

Yeap, I wrote about the improvements to highlight that this release
provides not only bugfixes but also new stuff that can potentially
break. At least this was what I had in my mind :-P
Then I wrote that we are currently providing version 0.4.0 to point
out that -as I'm the maintainer- it could be difficult to backport
each bugfix from 0.5.0 to 1.0.0 into the current version.

It's quite clear to me the reason of a version freeze but maybe I
should pay more attention to the way I write freeze push requests.

Thank you Guillaume.

 So 240 fixes, and atleast 270 new bugs introduced, eh ... :)

Hello Thomas, even backporting 240 fixes to the current package it's
not that easy imho but, I think that the real point (I'm criticizing
myself) is that I've completely missed this sentence[1] from the
release notes :-/
Is there a way I can cancel this freeze push request and restore the
previous svn/binrepo state?
I do not think that keeping version 3.3.4 it's the best solution
because there are many improvements not related to new features
shipped with 3.4.0 but, I clearly understand your reasons and I can
try to backport the missing fixes without package version changes.

Regards

[1] Note that many of these bugs have already been backported to the
3.3.x versions.

Hello Guillaume,

GPLv2 says:
It is safest to attach them to the start of each source file to most
effectively convey the exclusion of warranty; and each file should
have at least the copyright line and a pointer to where the full
notice is found.

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-2.0.html

 + +package Auth;
 I'm convinced tough than using a shared top-level namespace, for
 instance AdminPanel or Mageia::AdminPanel, would be a better idea
 to express the idea than this module is a part of a software, than
 a loose comment such as This file is part of mcc2. package
 Mageia::AdminPanel::Auth;

It's just a prototype, it will be fixed in future.
 + +require Exporter; +@ISA = qw(Exporter);
 You'd rather use a modern perl idiom: use base qw(Exporter)

 or

 use parent qw(Exporter);

Got it.
 +@EXPORT = qw(require_root_capability +
 ask_for_authentication); + +use strict; +use warnings; +use
 diagnostics;
 Those pragmas should come first, before package variables

Got it
 +use Data::Dumper;
 Unused anywere. Don't load debug-related modules in production
 coed.

afaik, apanel is not in production so what's your concern?.
 +sub require_root_capability { +return 0 if(!$); +return
 1; +}
 Perl best practice: use english name for magic variables, for
 readability:

 use English qw(-no_match_vars ); return 0 if (!$EUID);

 And your condition could be expressed in a single statement: sub
 require_root_capability { return $EUID == 0; }

 + +sub ask_for_authentication { +my @args = @ARGV; +my
 $command = wrap_command($0); +unshift(@args, $command-[2]);
 +exec { $command-[0] } $command-[1], @args or die (command
 %s missing, $command-[0]); +die You must be root to run
 this program if $; +}
 You're duplicating the condition from previous function here. die
 You must be root to run this program if
 !require_root_capability();

Don't blame me too much for readability and duplications, please.
I was inspired by /usr/lib/libDrakX/common.pm and other modules that
are not very readable and that contain similar duplications.
Again, this module it's still a prototype and I'm learning new stuff
while coding it. I'll work on improving its readability.
 Morevoer, you'd better test before executing the command: die You
 must be root to run this program if !require_root_capability();
 exec { $command-[0] } $command-[1], @args or die (command %s
 missing, $command-[0]);

Same as above, take a look at /usr/lib/libDrakX/common.pm and you'll
see that the test is performed after the exec.
 +sub wrap_command { +my $currenv = env; +my $wrapper =
 pkexec; +my $app = $0; +my $command = [$wrapper,
 $currenv, $app]; +($command); +}
 Perl best practice: use explicit return statement, for better
 readability: return ($command);

Again, same as above.
 Using temporary variables for constant isn't very useful here, the
 whole function would probably be more readable this way:

 sub wrap_command { my ($app) = @_; return (['pkexec', 'env',
 $app]); }

 I don't understand the need for list contexte here, tough.

 BTW, your indentation isn't consistent between various files.
I worked almost exclusively on the file you have dissected =) and
honestly it's not a big issue to me to read source files with
different indentations (I mean if they are somehow indented and
readable).

I'll try to improve my code even paying attention to your precious
advices.

Thank you.

Hello Nicolas,
yes, the function already exists but common.pm uses MDK::Common that
apanel currently doesn't needs. Consider then that we are using pkexec
 and not consolehelper. I haven't found other ways at that time.
However, I kept that code structure to be able to easily switch
apanel to the common module if needed (or maybe support both the
backends).

Any suggestion is more than welcome :)

 Hi, I recently had to work with some cmake macros and i found that

 KDE user and developer so it's not a big problem for me, but some
 colleagues are not. Now isn't be possible to have a
 kdelibs4-cmake-macros package? I think that can be useful for those
 who don't want to install a lot of kde developer packages and get
 benefit by using already developed macros.

 WDYT? Angelo
+1

Just for example, currently I need FindGLIB2.cmake to port an
application from an old style makefile to cmake but the application is
not based on kde and I can't make kdelibs4 a requirement.
To avoid this requirement I've to implement FindGLIB2 functionalities
into the main CMakeLists.txt but it is not that comfortable.

 Can I change the resitories to cauldron and do a urpmi

 Install the update rpm package from mga2 updates_testing first,
 then switch your repos and urpmi dracut and follow the
 instructions from step 2 on
 https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Feature:UsrMove#Release_Notes.

 After following these steps the rest of the auto-select/upgrade
 should go smoothly.

 Let me know if there are any issues.

 And if you upgrade from 2, then be very, very patient. You will see
 a lot of errors when booting and and you need to wait for timeouts
 to happen. The /usr move kind of happens randomly. You may need to
 try a few times. Calculate about 1/2 hour to boot, but eventually
 you should get there.

 This is on a virtual box.
FYI, I have not experienced such a thing on a virtual machine
(virtualbox and vmware) neither on a real machine.

Hi all,
I had no much time to work on the perl binding for libyui during the

I was working on the libyui-ncurses package (-qt and -gtk are already

Angelo is helping me so I can start to port libyui bindings.

Hello,
can someone push f2c?

It is the latest stable release and it fixes these bugs (from f2c
changelog):

- - format.c: make sizeof(buf) depend on MAXNAMELEN to fix a bug with long
names.  Update mswin/f2c.exe.gz accordingly.
- - fc: have -m ... modify CC rather than CFLAGS (to affect linking).
- - README, README in libf2c.zip: update some netlib pointers.

%__install or %__rm) are deprecated, can You point me in the right
direction, please?

IMHO the spec file is as readable as the others.

 Morevoer, it mixes pure cosmetics changes, as some of those macros just
 expand to the command itself, as install vs %__install,
Hi Guillaume,
I'm sorry, but I don't think that /usr/bin/install it's equal to
'install'. There are technical reasons to avoid these macros? Can you
suggest me some reference, please? I'm not able to find nothing about
this topic.

 with behaviour
 changes, as other macros expand to the command with additional
 arguments, as make vs %make, which is actually make -j.

So if I need to invoke make -j what should I do?
Again, excuse me -I'm not so skilled- but why should I avoid to call
make using -j option?

Be patient, please :-)

 Please remove old, obsoleted and not needed parts of .spec instead of
 commenting them out. IMHO there's no need to keep eg. 3 different
 source tags in .spec. Changes can be restored and reverted from svn
 afterwards if needed.
Yes, you're right. I'll clean this spec asap.
Thank you.

 For this kind of changes there's no really reason to push them aka
 it's just cosmetic changes without effect on the package itself.
 So if it's not a requires/suggests/BR/files list fix i would say that
 you can wait before submitting this kind of changes more « useful »
 changes.

 2. A DVD with updates
 This DVD may present a benefit for people with small bandwidth or in
 case of a multiple machine environment. Although, in such a case I'd
 prefer a local repository with nightly sync. A DVD with all updates is
 only a snapshot of one moment in the release's life, part of it may be
 outdated next day or week. So, 2 weeks later we have the same
 questions as today. I don't think that Mageia should offer this, not
 talking about the fact that everybody can do this (at the time which
 suits himself) without much knowledge.

 A DVD with updates is a nice idea for a local community where somebody
 has enough bandwidth to host a local repo (or even mirror) and can
 hand out update snapshots on request for people with small bandwidth..

I think that having something like apt-zip[1] on Mageia (I mean based on
urpm) could be a good alternative, too.

[Mageia-dev] check_elf_files bug

2011-09-29 Thread Matteo
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi all,
trying to build sdlbasic package I've seen that
/usr/share/spec-helper/check_elf_files fails checking files with name
containing parentheses.
I attached the patch I made to solve the problem.
Maybe there are better ways.
Without this patch I can't build sdlbasic. The only alternative I found
is to rename all of the filenames containing parentheses (that makes the
spec file ugly and difficult to maintain, imho).
I don't know if there are other ways, in that case let me know.
I'll wait some feedback before submitting sdlbasic to the bs.

Hi all,
I'm experiencing some problem building python-xlib.
It seems the build process starts looping
(todo-building-todo-building etc).
I can't figure out what I could have done wrong. I've only added two
patches that fixes some known problem, and on my machine works fine.
Any tips? Is there a way to stop that loop.

 Hi John,
 Hi matteo,

 the archive of the sources of the latest stable release (4.1.1) it's
 not available on the web site (404 error)[1].
 In fact it seems the whole /data folder has disappear from the www :/

 Moreover the one coming
 from the git repo don't compile due to an error related to exiv2 (I'm
 always talking about the 4.1.1 version).
 That's why I choose the latest git revision (cloned the 2011.09.09) to
 build the package. This revision compiles and works fine but it
 doesn't match version 4.1.1 (the application itself displays Version
 GIT into the about box) so I've used that version numbering to allow
 future upgrades.
 Let me know if you think it's an acceptable behaviour, please.
 There's no problem from my point of view of providing a git version of
 kphotoalbum (especially if it's fixing some compilations problem).
 Regarding the version the end user in fact will look for the « last »
 version aka 4.1.1 and will only notice that mageia is providing the
 version 0, since the next release of kphotoalbum will be 4.1.1 , i
 think you can use safely 4.1.1 for the version number in the spec.
 It also reflect the fact that current git is based against the 4.1.1 even
 if currently the « about version » mentionned that kphotoalbum is git
 based.
Ok, fixed.
Thanks :-)

 Yes, I know but I meant it should be there from the start, for
 consistency. IMHO it should be noted somewhere in release tag that
 it's the first release, even in this special case. And like it's
 done in normal release tag.
 You're right.

 Also, I have one example why the %rel part should be there from the
 start.

 What if we have some tool (like 'mdvsys update') which bumps release
 (semi-)automatically? If there's no %rel part it probably bumps the
 %gitdate part which is not intended.
 Yep.

Got it.
I completely agree with you guys, I'm fixing the spec :-)
Tnx

 Regarding the %mkrel if you're using a git tarball it could be
 nice to have it announced in the file name
 something for release like %mkrel -c git %git should do the trick

 Interesting. What does %mkrel -c git do?
 It's interressing for git/svn snapshot so you can get a srpm like this
 for exemple :
 libkvkontakte-1.0-0.git.20110908.mga2.src.rpm
 version here is 1.0 the Release is set to %mkrel -c git %gitdate

 Isn't there a problem when using git commit hashes as they are random,
 unsorted, and shouldn't be used in a version comparison?
 Yep i forgot to mention that it's better to use the date of the snapshot
 instead of the commit hash (which can still be available somewhere in
 the spec for memory).

 See f.ex. this thread:
 http://lists.mandriva.com/cooker/2011-03/msg9.php

 Although i didn't look at the SPEC at all ...

 No you're right, the %git macro here is not correct :p

[Mageia-dev] Looking for a mentor

2011-06-06 Thread Matteo
Hi all,
I would like to become a packager and I need a mentor.
I'm quite new to software packaging but I've already done some test with
a small package (axel) following the procedures on the
packaging_beginners page and the mandriva howto. rpmlint obviously says
that the resulting rpm it's not perfect :-) but the rpm seems to works
fine enough.
Someone available?
