Just for the records: mirrors.kernel.org mirror Mageia.
But surely there are more large sites to be contacted.

carroll.aset.psu.edu is one of the major mirrors in the USA that's missing
Mageia still.

Mandriva is on the path to filing for bankruptcy on January 16th.

Does anyone have a complete mirror / copy of the Mandriva svn repository, or
a complete set of SRPMs from cooker? I would be concerned this becomes
unavailable, as it's a valuable resource for packages not yet imported into
Mageia and contains a history of the package that Mageia does not have.

I asked about this on IRC and was directed to http://rsvndump.sourceforge.net/
as a tool that can be used to download their SVN repository.
I'd *really* like to see this happen and be somewhere that everyone has access
to (i.e. not have me try to do it myself). If there's anything
needed to help make this happen, I'm willing to help however I can. I'd really
hate for us to lose MDV's SVN packages repository.

D-C should still hold the srpm.

For the svn you would have to start now syncing, IMHO.

I just did a du -hs to see how large the SRPMS dir is for the last two
releases, in case anyone wan't to know how much they will have to mirror.
2011 - 50GB
2010.2 - 46GB

Personally I'm in the process of downloading 2010.2's SRPMS dir, for the first
time, just in case Mandriva really does get shut down, and the mirrors
automatically remove it.
(2010.2 is the latest MDV I have installed on my systems. I only have a virtual
2011 install, for development purposes)

Thou I seriously don't believe All of the mirrors will start to remove Mandriva
from their servers. Especially those who still have old releases. Some mirrors
still have everything as far back as MDK 7.2.
So, some mirrors will exist even if Mandriva closes down.

I doubt that Olivier Thauvin (the maintainer of distrib-coffee) would
get rid of them if they were of use to Mageia.

They are, because otherwise changelogs predating 2007.1
would be lost due to various SVN crashes.

I've grabbed my own copy of all the srpms for cooker, along with plf and the
new replacement for plf;
(ftp://mirror.yandex.ru/mandriva/official/restricted/2011.0/SRPMS/),

As I didn't know how long they would stay on the mirrors. If anyone is
looking for something in the future, I'll have a copy dated 6/1/2012.

Mandriva is on the path to filing for bankruptcy on January 16th.

There may be more consequences / preparation than ensuring our web content is
fully independant.

We may need to consider:
1)Prepare for upgrading our servers from Mandiva 2010.x to Mageia (1?).
However, I know for a fact that some packages we have on them are not
available in Mageia yet.

2)Ensuring we are ready for users who are still on Mandriva to migrate to
Mageia. IMHO, this should mean:
-Backports media resolved
-Highlighting documentation on upgrading / switching (e.g. downgrading from
Mandriva 2011 to Mageia 1, even if it is by exporting package leaf list and
backing up /etc, /usr/local/ etc. and re-install keeping /home) such as
http://www.mageia.org/en/1/migrate/ on the Wiki and website/blog post
-Forum section dedicated to assisting users migrating?
-Blog post prepared, something that commenters on various news sites can point
to in replies?
-Possibly considering contacting large mirror sites (e.g. mirrors.kernel.org)
who currently mirror Mandriva, but not Mageia?
-A concerted effort to start producing comprehensive documentation, as soon we
may not be able to point users to online copies of Mandriva documentation

(I personally need to upgrade 3 of my machines and a few machines of
friends/family/colleagues)

Regards,
Buchan

No. I don't watch forums. I'm an old school user who started with Usenet in
august 1998, and IRC a month later.
I only use/read forums when I have to, like searching google for solutions to
various problems. ;-)=

I remember my ISP at that time, actively advertized Usenet groups back then.
They even had Outlook Express automatically setup with a Usenet account as part
of the automatic email setup routine. That's how I discovered usenet, and I
still use it to this day.

The only modern forum I use is facebook, only because it forces everyone to
use their actuall names. I use it soley for the purpose of keeping in contact
with friends who don't like email and IRC to much. :-)=
