[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1021108] Re: Implement markup schema for public pages
I think the markup schema might be good on all pages. Sure, internal ones cannot be searched on publicly, but maybe a fulltext search plugin could benefit from them. Or in the case of COinS, Zotero could get basic information as straigh bibliographic record. Pages can be made public at any point and thus, the metadata should be available. Maybe we can also tie it in what we send via the sitemap? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1021108 Title: Implement markup schema for public pages Status in Mahara ePortfolio: Triaged Bug description: It would be really useful to implement markup schemas for public pages so searches give more details. http://schema.org/ is a vocabulary of RDFa which has been (somewhat) standardized for use by Google, Bing and Yahoo searches. http://ogp.me/ Open Graph Protocol is what Facebook uses to give you nifty snippets when you bash a URL into your post. However, in Mahara 1.5, staff members now also have limited access to that page. As they cannot manage users, the username is not linked. For them, this page is only useful for accessing reports. However, it would be a great page to access user's profile pages quickly (only when they have access to the actual reports will they be able to click on the username to be taken to the profile). Therefore, I would say the profile picture (and the real name) should always be linked to the profile page of a user also for admins as that would cut down an intermediate step having to go via the accounts settings page to get to the user profile page. When you share the Mahara homepage (tested it with demo.mahara.org), you don't get the logo but other images that are on the page. If you share a link to a portfolio page, there is no logo and no information about the site but Your browser does not have javascript enabled for this site. Mahara requires javascript to be enabled before you can log in. If the following would be possible that would be great: 1. Always show the Mahara logo - set that as the image to be used by Facebook. If other sites want to use a different image, they could exchange that in the raw theme, but at least we would have a default logo. 2. TinyMCE editor It is essential to be able to turn off the TinyMCE editor as screen reader users cannot use this editor. A plain text input field works fine (as per education and employment etc) Already a wishlist here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/548225 But needs to be user choice. 2. Files upload Disclaimer Check box not obvious. Once file 'Browsed' and uploaded, no notification to indicate upload process having completed. Other aspects appear to be in the wrong order for the student. A suggested process path would be: Add a File Browse Select Disclaimer Upload Upload Complete dialogue Storage Space remaining warning. 3. Local Language. More a note to self, but advice to others. If changing Language strings, ensure you also change all instance's to cover ALT text. We use the word CV instead of Resumé. Screen readers read Resumé phonetically as RE-SOOM Lang files need to include ALT strings. 4. Add and Delete Buttons: ALT text just says 'add' or 'delete' When there are many 'adds' and 'deletes' on a page it is not obvious which resource you are adding or deleting. ALT should say something like (eg) Add Educational History or Delete Educational History BA Hons Business 5. Creating a View; The student can create a view, but from that point on cannot make any use of drag and drop - partly because the student does not use a mouse and partly because there is no indication where anything has been dropped. Suggested use of radio buttons - process would be pick an artefact pick a location to put it. It is possible that some or all of the above can be wrapped up into a single 'screenreader' or accessibilty' editing mode with toggle link in the header somewhere. I also note that there are some workarounds that could potentially be adapted from discussions around ie6 versions or ipad versions. It is recognised as quite a challenge to offer a very visual tool to a non-visual user, who would still like to present themselves to a visual audience. ** Tags added: bite-sized ** Changed in: mahara Status: Triaged = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/738263 Title: faulty contact us form with noreplyaddress configdirective Status in Mahara ePortfolio: Confirmed Bug description: I am using Mahara 1.3.3 clean install on shared hosting with inmotionhosting, linux php 5.3, mysql. Everything works, but my emails sent by mahara are getting blocked. I had the same problem with my moodle installation, but was able to configure it with SMTP email and a defined, working noreply address. However, this is not working with mahara. The mail is actually sent, but is blocked at the destination because the user's profile email address is being used as the from field, instead of the noreplyaddress as defined. Since the email is coming from another domain, but claiming to be from the same domain as the recipient, it's blocked by the receiving mailserver (rightfully so). In doing the testing, I was following the troubleshooting info on the wiki and using the contact us form to send the test emails. Peeking around the code I see that that is a rather crude form that takes the email given and passes it on to phpmailer as the from address. The from email field is autopopulated since I am logged in, so the noreplyaddress is never used in this case. After fixing other problems, the contact form submissions still get blocked (obviously). In a case where the noreplyaddress config directive is set, the form should be smart enough to substitute that address for the entered address (or better yet-- apply that address to the reply-to address, and use the noreply address as the from or sender fields to comply with proper envelope format and accepted relay rules) since in effect mahara is using the mailserver as a relay. If that can't be done, perhaps you could include a switch to turn off the contact form and replace it with a email address url for contact (mailto) so the person trying to contact the admin can use their own mail system (less ideal I guess). Lastly, until this is fixed, and possibly after, the troubleshooting docs shouldn't suggest using this form to troubleshoot email since the form itself is the problem! Images are resized using PHP libraries (running as the Apache user) and zip files / tarballs are uncompressed through PHP libraries (in the case of Leap) or through shelling out to run unzip. The problem with this is that this untrusted user data could potentially contain exploits which would take over the web server process and potentially write to / delete the dataroot or the database. Ideally, we should have the current insecure file manipulation mode for people on shared hosting or Windows as well as a more secure mode where tainted data is handled in a separate process and by an unprivileged and separate user account. Normally, when you delete a file from the Files area, you receive a warning. This should also happen when you delete a picture from the Profile pictures.
