[Mailman-Users] Subscribing users via an email to a 'require approval' list
Greetings, I would like to be able to subscribe people to a Mailman 2.1.5 list by sending an email to the Mailman server. The list is set up such that subscription requests require the list administrator's approval before becoming active. It looks like it is possible to subscribe to a list via email by sending a mail to '-subscribe@', but I can't seem to locate doco on the email structure required (if any). I'd like, if possible, to subscribe users via the email method without the list administrator having to approve the subscription request. The email would be sent by a script that I use to add users to my systems. Can anyone tell me if this is possible? Ideally, if it is possible, the subscription request email would contain the list admin password, I guess, or else anyone could subscribe themselves via the email method... Thanks in advance, Guy. -- Mailman-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/
[Mailman-Users] Strange problem with mails through mailman
Hello! I have a strange problem that I think depends on mailman. We have a bunch of mailman lists here for different assosciations and some of the administrators complains that all the members don't get the mails. When I looked into it I found some strange errors in the logs. The mails for the people that don't get the list mails are all deferred from the receiving mail server because of bad media type or Body type not supported by Remote Host (see end of the mail for more details). I can't see why this error should occur, and why it only occurs on certain servers. Another thing that I can't understand is that it's only mail via mailman that bounces. If I send a mail directly to these people there are no problem att all, and one of the people that don't get list mails are a list administrator. She don't get the mails she sends out, but she gets administrative messages from mailman. Anyone who can point me in some direction so I can solve these problems? Does mailman change the body type in some way? Bounce message from mailman when I tried to send a mail to the list. [Mailman-Users] Howto select topics for several users at once?
Hello everyone, A colleague of mine is listadmin on a list with several hundred users/subscribers. He now wants to control the traffic with some topics, he had defined. It works fine if you do that manually for each user. BUT, is there a way to do that for each member in a script or better online on a website? The script could look something like user1,topic1,topic2,... user2,topic2,topic4,... user,topic1,topic3,... ... Has anyone ever come across a simillar problem? I was unable to transfer the list by documented methods since I could not access mailman command from a unix shell so I created the list on the new server and manually dumped all the users from the old list and mass subscribed them on the new server. As most of the users don’t configure their own settings it was a good enough trade off. I however have had a few issues. One is a bounce I receive for a invalid email (invalid user at site..) I manually unsubscribed the user but MM is still sending emails to this email address. I have no clue why as I don’t see the email under membership management in the web GUI. The following FAQ may help: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py?req=show&file=faq03.024.htp The other issue I’ve had is with the users who were not required to be moderated. I have unset the moderation box for one email so they do not have to approve (their own) emails when they post but MM is still asking for all of their (and all others which is correct behavior there) to be moderated. How can I verify that this users posts are not requiring moderation? The settings from the webgui are basically identical from old server to new server. The only difference I know of is the old server was a CPANEL installed mailman instance and the new server is a PLESK installed instance of mailman. Thanks! You problem is that the mail-gid is compiled into a C program which is then installed as $prefix/mail/wrapper. Normal advice is to rerun the Mailman ./configure with the --with-mail-gid= option set to the new value and then re-run make install as if doing a normal Mailman upgrade. It is a good idea to do a backup and shutdown you MTA and Mailman qrunner etc while the upgrade is being done. If you are a confident hacker you could just try: 1. rerun the Mailman ./configure with the --with-mail-gid= option set to the new value 2. run make in just the Mailman $build/src directory 3. replace $prefix/mail/wrapper with the $build/src/wrapper file just generated by step (2) Same caveats about backup and shutdowns apply. thanks... -- Mailman-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/

Hmm, the item in the FAQ doesn't apply, as the request.pck is there for my 3 lists. Hi, Assuming I have the same version of mailman installed on two separate servers, what files do I need to copy from one server to the other to produce a duplicate mailman set-up? RE: [Mailman-Users] Question about restoring a mailman list or two
Maish Saidel-Keesing wrote: > >Thank you mark for your reply. > >I gather that I need shell access for all of this. Yes, you do. You might be able to restore the directories and files with sufficient FTP access, but you'd almost certainly need shell access anyway to fix owner/group/permission issues. You'd definitely need shell access to use bin/arch to rebuild archives. >I am not sure if I will be able to get it. > >Is there no other way to do this This is kind of off the wall, but if you're motivated, you could install Python and Mailman on another machine (even your Windows machine - at least I assume it's windows because of the notepad reference). You wouldn't have to do a full Mailman install or worry about MTAs - just enough to be able to run bin/config_list and bin/list_members and maybe bin/list_owners against the list files. This would give you the information in the config.pck files in a nice format that you could follow for configuring the real lists manually via the web and a nice members file you could use for a mass subscribe. Alternatively you could do as you originally thought and just "extract" as much as you can by hand. The archives are still a problem. you either need to restore the whole archive structure or you can restore just the listname.mbox/listname.mbox file for each list and rebuild the archive with bin/arch. There's no practical way to get the archives without shell access or the equivalent. Probably the easiest way to do this if you can't get shell access is to ask the host site for a cost quote if they do it and pay the money. -- Mark Sapiro <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, Californiabetter use your sense - B.
