[Mailman-Users] Installation Question: Is a web server necessary ?

2021-04-29 Thread White, Daniel E. (GSFC-770.0)[NICS] via Mailman-Users
Can one use Mailman 3 without it being behind a web service ?

I know the older MM can be managed by emailing commands to it.
Does MM3 work like that as well ?

Thanks.

The appropriate list for Mailman 3 is mailman-us...@mailman3.org
.

It depends what you mean by manage. The MM 2.1 email command interface
does allow users to manage some aspects of their subscriptions, but
there is nothing for managing the list configuration. MM3 has an email
command interface, but it is more limited that that for MM 2.1. Users
can subscribe and unsubscribe by email and list admins and, depending on
list config, list members can get a list of members, but that's
currently about it.

You can run Mailman 3 core without a web UI and manage everything from a
shell on the server with the `mailman` command including `mailman
shell`, but that requires command line access to the server.
