[Mailman-Users] Changing the senders name in the From line in confirmation mails

2018-07-21 Thread Andre Tann
Hi folks,

I've been googling now for a while, but could not find a hint if the
following can be done:

The sender's name in the from line of a confirmation mail should be
changed/inserted. Example:

This line:

    From:
newsletter-confirm+7f07b5deb0843fad9ab40ead51ac7e7541cf2...@example.com

should be changed to

    From: My-Company

I found tons of hints how to tweak the subject line, and I already did
that BTW. But no clue how to change the name.

Any hints?

Thanks

[Mailman-Users] Mailman doesn't post messages anymore

2008-10-27 Thread Andre Tann
Hello everyone,

there is a mailman problem on my machine which i cannot really
locate. I can send a mail to one of the lists. The mail is
delivered to mailman. But then as I see in the postfix logs, the
mail never returns back to the postfix system.

Instead, mailman produces errors like these:

# cat /var/lib/mailman/logs/post | tail -1
Oct 27 11:03:33 2008 (5104) post to testliste from [EMAIL PROTECTED],
size=2150, message-id=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, 4 failures

The list "testliste" has 4 recipients, that's why the 4 failures, I
think.

In the smtp-failure-log I see things like this:

# cat /var/lib/mailman/logs/smtp-failure
Oct 26 21:03:02 2008 (5104) delivery to  failed with
code -1: please run connect() first
Oct 26 21:03:02 2008 (5104) delivery to  failed with
code -1: (111, 'Connection refused')
Oct 26 21:03:02 2008 (5104) delivery to
failed with code -1: please run connect() first

Can anybody tell me what's going on here? Where can I start my
search?

The postfix mail system seems to be working fine. Mail are going in
and out, as usual.

[Mailman-Users] Mailman does not like german umlaute

2007-11-27 Thread Andre Tann
Hello everyone,

I'm running a

# rpm -q mailman
mailman-2.1.6-4.2

on a

# cat /etc/SuSE-release
SUSE LINUX 10.0 (i586) OSS
VERSION = 10.0

machine. Now everything works fine, except one thing: sending a mail
with a german umlaut in the subject line looks sometimes normal,
but sometimes it looks like this:

Jemand erhält Zuschlag für Einkauf

The sender is an Entourage on a Mac OS X. If the Mac-User sends his
mail to me and in copy to the mailman list, then the mail sent
directly to me looks OK, and the one running through mailman looks
garbled.

Where is the problem?

[Mailman-Users] Cc to the list?

2006-04-07 Thread Andre Tann
Hello.

I'm running Mailman with the option VERP personalisation turned on.
This results in mails being generated look like this:

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

How can I get rid of the Cc-line? The problem about this is that
mail clients like kmail reply to the list instead of the author
mentioned in the From-line, even though I have set
reply_goes_to_list to "sender".

I don't think that mailman is the bottle neck. It's more the MTA
with all it's DNS lookups and other time consuming things.

How fast is your internet link? If it's a modem link, it will take a
while to send out these 100k mail.

Yes. in your mm_cfg.py:

OWNERS_CAN_ENABLE_PERSONALIZATION = Yes

Then you can turn on personalization via the web interface. But this
might increase the load of your mail system significantly, as then
each mail has to be delivered seperately.

Write your list config into a file:

./config_list -o /tmp/listconfig yourlist

Edit this file, and find the parameter msg_footer.

Reimport the configuration with

./config_list -i /tmp/listconfig yourlist

[Mailman-Users] Create new list fails - unknown virtual host...

2006-03-12 Thread Andre Tann
Hello everyone,

when trying to create a new list through the web interface, Mailman
says "unknown virtual host: mailsrv".
"mailsrv" is the name of the local machine. I can't find which
setting is wrong - can someone give me a hint?

I have set in my mm_cfg.py:

[...]
DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST = 'domain.net'
DEFAULT_URL_HOST = 'www.domain.net'
MTA = 'Postfix'
SMTPHOST = 'localhost'
SMTPPORT = '25'
add_virtualhost(DEFAULT_URL_HOST, DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST)
VIRTUAL_HOSTS = {'mailsrv.domain.lan':'domain.lan'}
[...]

Where:

- the host where Mailman is running on is _not_ the MX for
domain.net, but it is linked to the MX by a fetchmail link.

- mailsrv.domain.lan is the name of the host where Mailman is
running on

- domain.lan is the local domain

What to do?

[Mailman-Users] list moderation via email

2006-03-09 Thread Andre Tann
Hello,

Is it possible to accept and reject mails and memberships by email?
The only way I can find is to go to the list web site. But I am
thinking about something like the confirmation mail one gets when
trying to subscribe to a list.
I haven seen this feature at yahoogroups.com, and I find it a very
useful and fast way to care about a list.

I now have set up VERP. As my mailman-server is connected to the
real mx via a fetchmail/procmail link, it was a little bit hand
work to do to bring up VERP to work.

fetchmail fetches all the mailman mails via a catchall account, and
procmail does the filtering.
Now I have modified my procmail rule set, which means VERP works,
and all the bounce mails are recognized.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Greetings from Munich sinking in snow

[Mailman-Users] Bounce processing doesn't work

2006-03-02 Thread Andre Tann
Hello out there,

I have set up a mailing list with about 500 addresses. Everything
woks fine, except the bounce processing. Mailman does not recognise
one single bounce.
It sends a mail to me instead which says:

Die angehängte Nachricht kam als unzustellbar an die Liste zurück.
Leider wurde entweder das Bounce-Format nicht erkannt, oder keine
e-Mailadresse eines Mailinglistenmitglieds konnte extrahiert werden.

I try to translate: the attached message was returned as
undeliverable to the list. Either the bounce format was not
recognised, or no email address of a mailing list member could be
extracted.

I have set up mailman to deliver fully personalised mails, which
means every mail to the mailing list is delivered 500 times, and
the corresponding email address appears in the To-header.

Does anyone have an idea what the reason might be why mailman
doesn't process the boundes? For me as a human being it is no
problem to see in the attached message which address has bounced.

Thanks.

What does /var/log/mail say? Looking at that log, did MM send the
Mail to these users, or didn't it?

Did you check that your users are subscribed, don't receive digests,
and didn't set mail delivery on hold?
