If the person replying is using a text only MUA and/or has turned off rich text E-Mail, that will also strip off the HTML. Actually many people do that, so depending on "rich text" features is not really very reliable and not something you can always rely on. > > Thanks, > Vako > > Mark Sapiro wrote on 3/28/2021 5:30 PM: > > On 3/28/21 12:11 PM, Vako Nicolian wrote: > >> I already know the answer that this has nothing to do with mailman, but > >> I want your opinion: > > > > Actually, in this case, it has everything to do with Mailman. > > > > > >> Any idea why if we use mailman, the highlight disappears? is it a > >> settings issue? > >> I am doing the same highlight here to see if it will work for this group. > > > > This list employs content filtering and among the options is Collapse > > alternatives which is set to Yes. > > > > That means when you compose your "rich text" message in your MUA, and > > the MUA creates a message with a text/html part for the rich text and a > > text/plain alternative part, the list will discard the text/html part > > and keep only the text/plain part which doesn't have all the rich text > > formatting. > > > > You can adjust your list settings to not filter content at all or to > > accept both text/plain and text/html MIME parts and to not Collapse > > alternatives and not Convert html to plain text to avoid this, but the > > HyperKitty archive will still display only the plain text and the raw > > html will be stored as an attachment. > > > > > > -- > Mailman-Users mailing list -- mailman-users@python.org > To unsubscribe send an email to mailman-users-le...@python.org > https://mail.python.org/mailman3/lists/mailman-users.python.org/ > Mailman FAQ: http://wiki.list.org/x/AgA3 > Security Policy: http://wiki.list.org/x/QIA9 > Searchable Archives: https://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users@python.org/ > https://mail.python.org/archives/list/mailman-users@python.org/ > > > -- Robert Heller -- Cell: 413-658-7953 GV: 978-633-5364 Deepwoods Software-- Custom Software Services http://www.deepsoft.com/ -- Linux Administration Services hel...@deepsoft.com -- Webhosting Services -- Mailman-Users mailing list -- mailman-users@python.org To unsubscribe send an email to mailman-users-le...@python.org https://mail.python.org/mailman3/lists/mailman-users.python.org/ Mailman FAQ: http://wiki.list.org/x/AgA3 Security Policy: http://wiki.list.org/x/QIA9 Searchable Archives: https://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users@python.org/ https://mail.python.org/archives/list/mailman-users@python.org/

If you are saying that an initial post in a thread as received from the list includes the rich text formatting, but a reply to that post that quotes the rich text does not include the formatting, then this is not a Mailman content filtering issue after all. It is the MUA doing the reply. -- Mark Sapiro The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, Californiabetter use your sense - B. Actually my settings are aligned with your suggestions and still when they reply, even using HTML encoding, strips the highlights I wish I can attach the screen capture to this email, but your system doesn't accept it. Is there anything else I can check, note that the initial message shows all correctly, only when we reply, it strips the highlighting. This list employs content filtering and among the options is Collapse alternatives which is set to Yes. That means when you compose your "rich text" message in your MUA, and the MUA creates a message with a text/html part for the rich text and a text/plain alternative part, the list will discard the text/html part and keep only the text/plain part which doesn't have all the rich text formatting. You can adjust your list settings to not filter content at all or to accept both text/plain and text/html MIME parts and to not Collapse alternatives and not Convert html to plain text to avoid this, but the HyperKitty archive will still display only the plain text and the raw html will be stored as an attachment. -- Mailman-Users mailing list -- mailman-users@python.org To unsubscribe send an email to mailman-users-le...@python.org https://mail.python.org/mailman3/lists/mailman-users.python.org/ Mailman FAQ: http://wiki.list.org/x/AgA3 Security Policy: http://wiki.list.org/x/QIA9 Searchable Archives: https://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users@python.org/ https://mail.python.org/archives/list/mailman-users@python.org/

On 28 Mar 2021, at 15:11, Vako Nicolian wrote: I already know the answer that this has nothing to do with mailman, but I want your opinion: When members send emails that are highlighted, we receive it ok, but when people reply or forward the same email, the highlight is gone. I tested with the same users sending them private emails (outside of mailman) and it all works ok. Any idea why if we use mailman, the highlight disappears? is it a settings issue? I am doing the same highlight here to see if it will work for this group. "Highlighting" is a function of non-plaintext email, most often HTML in the modern world but also sometimes other proprietary formats (e.g. older Outlook) or other "rich text" formats that have lost the competition to HTML, such as the "text/enriched" format. Most mail composers using HTML in email use a "multipart/alternative" structure which includes both a HTML version of the message and a plaintext version, so that mail readers can display the mail even if they do not support HTML. For a variety of reasons, some mailing lists are configured to strip out the HTML part of multipart/alternative messages. Many users (including myself) also preferentially only display the plaintext version of multipart messages and so only reply to what is in that part. Because any "highlighting" is only present in non-plaintext email, lists and users who stick to plaintext do not see or preserve that highlighting. -- Bill Cole b...@scconsult.com or billc...@apache.org (AKA @grumpybozo and many *@billmail.scconsult.com addresses) Not Currently Available For Hire -- Mailman-Users mailing list -- mailman-users@python.org To unsubscribe send an email to mailman-users-le...@python.org https://mail.python.org/mailman3/lists/mailman-users.python.org/ Mailman FAQ: http://wiki.list.org/x/AgA3 Security Policy: http://wiki.list.org/x/QIA9 Searchable Archives: https://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users@python.org/ https://mail.python.org/archives/list/mailman-users@python.org/
