Re: [MlMt] MM keeps demanding passwords
Randall, Is Benny aware of this? I don't know. But it has certainly been mentioned on this list several times through the years by other users. It's never really bothered me enough to file a bug report ... Cheers Ian ___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com https://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate
Re: [MlMt] MM keeps demanding passwords
Randall, it pops up a dialog demanding the password for various accounts, claiming the password isn't in the keychain, which it is. I open Keychain Utility, copy the password to the clipboard, paste it into the box, and MM is happy for a while. Very annoying. My Mailmate has done that for years through several OS versions and myriad MM versions. It happens a couple of times a month for me. I just shut down MM for an hour or so and it seems to be fine again. You don't even need to add the password again because it's already there. I think it's a glitch between MM and Keychain ... Re: [MlMt] Password popup box
Benny, Somehow MailMate misinterprets a repeated error as a possible password issue (server are not always good at telling the email client exactly what the problem is). First try updating to the latest beta of MailMate (in the Software Update preferences pane). For what it’s worth I have experienced similar issues (on Runbox) on and off for the last couple of years (always using latest beta). MM throws a wobbly for a few minutes or an hour, but it always seems to go back to normal again after a while. TJ, although until recently they were all running under Rosetta. Re: [MlMt] Messages marked as “read” in Version 1.14 (5757)
Rob, Is it just me? What do do have in Preferences > Viewer > Mark messages read after X seconds? You can either put a longer time e.g. 60 seconds or remove the tickmark altogether, which should make messages only be marked read manually. Re: [MlMt] hover over link to view it?

Re: [MlMt] ]Line-spacing in HTML Mails I'm Sending
Steve, Can someone tell me how to adjust the outgoing template (css) to change the line-spacing on the html portion of outgoing mail? From the helpfile: **Hardcoded CSS** The default themes for generated HTML does not include a specific font, but simply states that it should be sans-serif. This should work well for most purposes. If you need to experiment with setting a specific font (or other CSS changes) then you can do it using the MmDefaultCSS hidden preference: ```defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmDefaultCSS -string 'body { font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; }' ``` This is strongly discouraged, but let me know if and why you have to use this hidden preference. Re: [MlMt] Confused About Threading
Robert, Is it possible somehow to have an INBOX (or smart mailbox) that shows full threads while showing only those threads that touch the INBOX? In the ‘Examples’ folder that comes by default with a new MM installation there should be a smart mailbox called ‘Personal inbox with threading’. Does that not work for you? In any case you can use it as a basis for your own version. Cheers Ian ___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com https://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate
Re: [MlMt] newbie question about folders
Glenn, That’s cute, but frankly it’s overly technical and not very user-friendly. I don’t see how using the correct term is not user friendly. Just because you happen to not have heard it before doesn’t make it wrong - I see MiB and kib as often as I see MB and kb nowadays. Remember Mailmate *is* aimed at the more technical user. Go ahead and google “MiB” to see what pops up. That’s what I did. The Wikipedia link was the first thing that popped up. Actually, I had to search for ‘Men in black’ to understand your reference … ;-) Cheers Ian ___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com https://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate
Re: [MlMt] newbie question about folders
Glenn, BTW, another odd bit is the use of “MiB” and “KiB”. In English, “MiB” is most likely read as “Men In Black” (the movie). “Megabyte” is just “MB” (there’s not even an “i” in the word), and “Kilobyte” is just “KB”. Actually these are the correct ISO standard names for 1024 bytes or 1024 kibibytes. Re: [MlMt] removing forwarding symbol ">"
Steve, That's a redirect. I have to admit I’ve never heard of a redirect before. But choosing ‘redirect’ in Mailmate’s menu seems to also add quotes to the ‘redirected’ message. So that doesn’t really help … Cheers Ian ___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com https://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate
Re: [MlMt] removing forwarding symbol ">"
Charlie, E-mails have historically used quoting and indentation to provide context when replying to e-mails. Yes, but a forward is not the same as a reply. I too would prefer that forwarded messages didn’t quote the forwarded message - or change it in any way. Re: [MlMt] prevent ESC exit fullscreen
Andrey, Doesn't this issue bother anyone else? Not really. But the default ‘go back to last view’ is `Cmd+Ctrl+[` or `Cmd+Ctrl+Alt+(`. Maybe that is better than using `Esc`? Take a look at the *Custom Keybindings* section of the MailMate helpfile if you want to remap the keybindings. Re: [MlMt] Ignore or fix Runbox marking email as spam
Ron, > What is the easiest and/or best fix for this problem? You might want to take a look at Runbox's filtering options - see https://help.runbox.com/filter/ I use Runbox too and generally find their spam-filtering pretty good. You can 'train' it to your specific needs using their webmail interface. I don't think Mailmate has any direct influence on what gets marked (or not) as spam by Runbox. Re: [MlMt] Forwarding as attachment corrupts attachments (in some cases).
Scott, Is it just me? No, not just you. I’ve always had problems with recipients on Outlook/Office365 not being able to save attachments from my mails or open attachments from forwarded mails (not necessarily forwarded as attachments). But this problem, in my experience, is not limited to MM - I’ve had the same problem with Apple Mail and even Outlook for Mac. [MlMt] Archive oddities
My IMAP account (on Runbox) has, as usual, an *Archive* folder. I also have had an *Archives* (with an S) folder containing yearly archive folders thus: ``` ├── Archive └── Archives ├── 2016 ├── 2017 └── 2015 ``` So the current year’s mail gets archived in the *Archive* folder and then gets moved (manually) to the *Archives/* when a new year comes around. I have used this system for years with other clients without problems. I think it dates back to when I used Thunderbird some years ago. Anyway, since using Mailmate I notice my current year’s (2018) archives are not going into the *Archive* folder as they should but getting put into seemingly random folders under *Archives*. I’ve found recent 2018 messages in 2017, 2016, 2012 etc. as well as the in the root *Archives* folder … Hmm! This caused me some consternation, so I have tidied things up using the Runbox web interface - I have renamed *Archives* to *Years* and moved all the wrongly archived messages to their rightful yearly folders. All is well so I thought. However, when now I archive a message in Mailmate it *recreates* the *Archives/2012* folder and puts the message in there! So how do I convince MM that *Archives* doesn’t exist any more, and is now called *Years* , and that it should just put archived messages in *Archive*? What to do? Re: [MlMt] Force compose in tab
Compass Luca, Is it possible to force Mailmate compose messages in tabs instead of a separate window ? Hmm, my mailmate always opens the compose window in a tab - which I find rather annoying actually. Re: [MlMt] Moving providers
David, I can put in a recommendation for Runbox Haha! Too late. After not really all that much deliberation I have already chosen Runbox. They seem to know what they are doing by all accounts, my mail is already on their servers. They have a nice import feature that hoovered all my mail (about 3GB) from my old provider in about an hour. Very painless. Fastmail looked like a good alternative but since I’m in Denmark Runbox in Norway are a bit closer to home. Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions, everybody. Re: [MlMt] A couple of newbie issues
Benny, I thought I once added a hidden preference for this, but I don't seem to be able to locate it. In other words, it's not (currently) optional. You can of course request it if you like :) Consider it requested! ;-) Personally, I prefer “in-between” replies like this, but one of the most frequent requests is how to default to top-posting with everything quoted. That's just the world of today (as you also described yourself). Yes, I prefer in-between quotes too, but I still need to be able to *not* quote on a daily basis. Ideally this would be configurable on a smart-folder basis. (The main reason that I would not prefer a blank email when nothing is selected is that selecting text involves using the mouse/trackpad. I prefer being able to reply using a keyboard shortcut and then cut text manually.) As I noted in another post I’ve been having a bit of bother deleting everything in a reply. Some bits seem to get left behind … This could be changed to: On %e %b %Y, at %k:%M, ${from.name.first:${from.address}} wrote: That’s great. I thought it would be something like that. And I’m well aware it’s not going to work 100% of the time, but it’s close enough for me. Thanks.
