Re: [MlMt] Check for Test Build

2024-03-06 Thread MM_Arc via mailmate

Hello Quinn,

I checked the behaviour you described on my system (MacOS 12.7.3 - MM
r6024)

I can’t seem to reproduce your findings

#2 and #4 display the same results
*6016 is the latest version available. You have version 6024.*

Might be an idea to recheck.
Or provide some more details on the system you are using.

Regards,

Marc

## 2. Settings → Software Update → Check Now (holding *option*)

## 3. MailMate menu → Check for Update

## 4. MailMate menu → Check for Test Build (holding *option*)

Re: [MlMt] Issue with showing messages in the same thread

2024-02-12 Thread MM_Arc via mailmate

Alex,

I do experience the same caveat as you

My work around:
use 2 smart mailboxes
- one to define the search so that it “contains” the message(s)
- one that gets all messages related to the tread(s) of the message(s)
in the fist mailbox

Haven’t been able to find something more convenient

All,

One of the most useful features in Mailmate is the ability to show all
messages in the same conversation/thread, but that feature doesn’t
work as expected when you use it after having conducted a search.

For example, if you search for all messages sent by j...@example.com,
select the message of interest, and then hit the button to show all
conversations in the same thread — you’ll get the messages in the
thread of that email, but ONLY those sent by j...@example.com. In
other words, you get messages from the same thread only if they
satisfy the search.

I’ve been trying to work around this (what I consider to be a) bug
by coming up with my own key binding that selects all of the messages
in the thread and also clears the search box, so that all messages
from the thread actually show up.

But I can’t figure out which key binding selector to use to clear
the search box. Here’s the key binding for just selecting all
messages in the same thread:

“8” = ("showThread:");

And here’s the list of key binding selectors:
https://manual.mailmate-app.com/key_binding_selectors.html

Any help would be much appreciated!

Many thanks for the reaction & input.

I can perfectly live in this “via-world”, even better since I now
understand the “root-cause”( anyhow prefer this to the meta one ;-)
).

Our very best wishes, that 2024 might bring you health, happiness and
more then you wish for.

I won't try to pick apart the precise details for this list. Perhaps
Benny can explain the specific rules.

Mailman checks the DMARC policy published to the DNS TXT records of
the domain in the "From" header of the original message. If the
policy is 'p=reject' or 'p=quarantine', Mailman may modify the "From"
header to use the list's email address or the server's hostname to
prevent rejection due to DMARC, SPF, or DKIM checks.

Bill and Quinn are correct. The “via” is a workaround for
DMARC-issues with the mailing list. This is one of those subjects
where I feel like I have to start over every time I want to understand
the details of what's going on ;-)

It doesn't treat all senders the same because some people self-host
their email domain and don't use DKIM or SPF.

Ironically, the mailing list server for MailMate is self-hosted (by
me) and it has only been using SPF. This seems to have been a serious
problem with Gmail addresses (I think many/most of them have been
thrown off the list by MailMan by now).

Hopefully, the changes I've made today (on the server) means that DKIM
will work going forward. That should make Google happy:
https://blog.google/products/gmail/gmail-security-authentication-spam-protection/

This will NOT solve the problem which makes the use of “via”
necessary for some correspondents. If I understand it correctly then a
standard solution does exist now, but it's not a high priority for me
to make that work:

I might be an outlier here--and if so, feel free to blow me

I frequently use message selection in the message list as a "bookmark"
of sorts, showing the last place I was reading messages in any given
mailbox, and/or leaving an unread message selected as a reminder to go
back and deal with that message. This all worked well up until (I'm
assuming) Bennie's message list updates.

I've updated to v1.14 (5964) and the above scenario is no longer
working. The message list does remember which message was selected
when switching back and forth between different lists. But if I
select/highlight an UNread message, that message gets marked as READ
when the message list is redrawn.

I can see both ways be valid and intentional, but I really liked the
previous behavior. Bennie, can you comment on the intent behind the
behavior change? And whether we'll get the previous behavior back in
a future release?

Thanks.

All the settings and data are stored in ~/Library/Application

You can simply copy this folder/it’s contents over to the new

Just make sure that MM is not running while copying.

want on the new machine. Is it possible to migrate all MailMate

Malcolm,

Might help to select the actual mailbox in/of the source instead of the
source top

This is imvho because the source is just a “view” where the mailbox
is the actual container.

ex:
I define the condition of the source as:

[Any] of the following
...[Thread-Id] [is in] [Source-INBOX] [>> Thread-Id]
... [References] [is in] [Source-INBOX] [References]

So the source only shows mails of the Inbox and related to these in the
Inbox ( and not these I already archived ext..

Good luck
