I'm not sure I could follow what happened here, but it sounds like there
might be some bug. If you find something reproducible then send me a

This does **not** work. If MailMate is running on the destination
machine then the changes would simply be ignored, but it wouldn't even
work to symlink. I think MailMate would simply overwrite the changes
(and destroy the symlink), but it might be worse than that since I
haven't tried.

However, best if MM would allow to specify where prefs are stored and
handles updates to it dynamically while running.

Yes, that would be best, but it's not a simple change (at least not for
some of the configuration files). Interestingly, an IMAP server could be
used for the sharing avoiding the need for a third party sharing service
(at the cost of some private/secret MailMate-related IMAP mailbox to
store these files).

Is there a way to move these configurations from one computer to the

When MailMate is **not** running then it's safe to move any of the
`.plist` files:

~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/*.plist

Some of them need to go together, but if you haven't changed anything
account related then it's fine to move the `Mailboxes.plist` file. You
should have the same accounts on both computers and they should be
configured them in the same way (if the IMAP server allows different
usernames, like Gmail, for the same IMAP account then you could run into
issues).

I thought about the symlink option but I often leave both copies running
and I'd hate for there to be a collision on read/write and have the
whole thing get borked. Hopefully we can get an official solution.

Until then, I'll continue playing with the plist files. I was able to
move new rules I created for All Messages from one computer to another
-- quit MailMate first, then make the changes. They came over
successfully. I think smaller changes are better, especially if I have
to deal with UUIDs.

Hi, not that I have a solution for you but I just want to "vote" for such an
option too. I use a desktop and a laptop and would like to have both setup the

Re: [MlMt] Export/Import/Sync Mailbox Conditions/Rules, etc.?

2017-01-03 Thread Jim McCarty

Hi all,

Did a little poking around and found the Mailboxes.plist file in the
Application Support folder. Taking a look at the format, it appears I
can take any filter/action sets and transfer them to the other computer
(though I hope I can transfer the data I need outside of any UUID,
keeping those straight would be a nightmare). I'll see if I can set
aside some time to investigate right if I don't hear anything from you
all.

While looking at the [Mailboxes.plist](http://i.imgur.com/7cnz4XJ.png)
file, I noticed the actions for the first rule attached to All Messages
did not have the same parameters the other rules had
([disc.png](http://i.imgur.com/Ul2cLZD.png) and
[paleo.png](http://i.imgur.com/tQKWJxd.png) -- I also verified the same
on my other computer). I *have* noticed some messages that should have
been caught with the first rule showing up in my Inbox, not Archived. I
haven't really tried to figure out that problem, maybe this is a likely
cause? I tried adding/removing other actions and viewing the resulting
changes in the plist and it looks like the moveMessage type in the first
rule loses the mailbox specifier.

Anyway, would love to hear if anyone else has dabbled in this area?

Thanks, Jim
