I thought hard-coded paths was a thing from 16bit DOS days? Since the re-installs, have you edited the preferences files accordingly? My guess is that MapInfo spends some time looking for now obsolete paths to thos and that. I have 190+ layouts saved as workspaces and I pick and choose which layout I want to use, modify, insert a map window and to print. I have two identical Dell Dimension XPS300 machines and am running MapInfo Pro v4.5. One machine was opening a workspace (layout) in about 1 second. The other machine was opening the same workspace in about 13 seconds. Both machines had MapInfo installed in the same path: c:\program files\mapinfo\professional\. What caused this difference in time required to load a workspace? NOW- after removing MapInfo and re-installing to the path C:\MAPINFO due to a requirement by SoilTec SGIS installation, both machines are slow in loading the same workspace but the machine which was initially slower is now a second or two faster than the machine that was the fastest. MI Re: poor mapinfo support for file opening in older versions
Thanks Cattaneo fro bringing this one up I have found that Mapinfo has a very poor backwards support for file formats. We started originally with v4 16 bit and for most but not all users have moved up each version thru maintenance to 5.5. When we switched to 4.5 we expected problems in backwards compatibility due to the node and line type changes, due to mbx needs and old copies of 4.1 floating about we kept a 16 bit version of 4.1 running to maintain compaltibility of our corporate map data and most data is maintained to match older line styles, the 32.000 node plines and polys are only rarely encountered. We have found the saving of files which should not constitute a problem to older version a total mess. All the old 4.1 and even mac versions report table x.tab cannot be opened but version 4.5 can. A simple number change in a text editor fixes the tab file , older versions in nearly all situations then open file. This process apart from time consuming is an alien concept to most of our users who are trying to send maps to collegues with older versions. I don't expect that MI go as far as MS in the way it produces file opening plugins for older versions but Why oh why can Mapinfo not implement a 'save a V4.0' option in the file>save table/workspace menu for workspaces and tables like it does for v2 thereby reducing organisations with multiple platforms / version this hassle. MI Slow (open workspace)
I have 2 Dell dimension XPS300 system sitting side by side and have mapinfo 4.5 loaded on both. Until yesterday one system would open a workspace in about 1 second. The other would load the same workspace in about 13 seconds. MapInfo was installed into the default path (c:\program files\mapinfo\professional) on both systems. I had to uninstall mapinfo from both systems in order to re-install the program in the path C:\MAPINFO in order to install and upgrade to SGIS, an AG CHEM product. Now both systems require about 13 seconds to load the same workspace. MI duplicate records
Hello mappers.. I have a problem that I can not get the correct answer to I have several tables , some with the same record in each table, how can i get a set of tables that do not have the same records in them ?? ... The field of each table are the same and the data is the same, but they represent different purposes for the selected options of the exercise this needs to be made as a mapbasic program to be run at "on request" to generate individual tables for different identifying purposes.. the key element is ident No. - that may or may not be duplicated in other tables - and the tables represent different pieces of equipment.
