MI Display Order
Dear All, Is it possible to control the order that objects within the same table are displayed? This is in relation to thematic mapping in particular. I have a table of lines which I have themed. As you know the lines overlap at the nodes by an amount that is dependent on the width of the theme style. I want to ensure that all lines within a higher range display above all lines in a lower range where they overlap. Any ideas? RE: MI DXF import and local grid
Juanse, In terms of transferring the data from AutoCAD to MapInfo you do not need a separate DXF for each layer, unless you have a particular reason for separating them (e.g. minimizing file size). A DXF can contain the data for all your layers in one file. The import functionality within MapInfo will allow you to ensure that each AutoCAD layer within the DXF is converted into a separate MapInfo table. If you do choose to create a separate DXF for each file, then when using the 'Export' option from the 'File' menu in AutoCAD (assuming you have a recent version) and selecting a DXF file type, click on the 'Options' button in the dialog box, and then tick the 'Select Objects' toggle in the 'DXF Out' tab. This will enable you to select only those objects that you wish to export, rather than the whole dwg. To aid the selection of the objects it is helpful to isolate the layer (turn the other layers off) containing the objects for export. Obviously, you'll have to go through this process for each layer you wish to export. On a related matter, if you have Object Data or database links attached to your AutoCAD objects, you'll need to use MID/MIF to take the data into MapInfo. Re: MI DXF import and local grid
John, The DXF attributes should be converted into .TAB file fields if you ticked the 'Preserve Attribute Data' option in the MapInfo 'DXF Import Information' dialog. There can be no link to the DXF file. If you did this and the data is still not translating then it may be that the data in the DXF file, assuming it was created by AutoCAD, probably isn't attribute data. As you may be aware, tabular data in AutoCAD can be attached to graphical objects by a number of methods. The simplest and oldest method being the use of Block Attributes (a block is a collection of graphical objects, an attribute is the textural data). But there are other methods, EED (Extended Entity Data), Object Data Tables, and links to external databases. As far as I'm aware, MapInfo will only read Block Attributes from a DXF file, which is fairly limiting. I could be wrong, as I've not tested this, but the terminology used suggests I'm correct. I'm not sure how the Universal Translator copes with tabular data in DXF files. So it may not be a straight forward process translating the data you want. Keith From: "John Elliot" [EMAIL PROTECTED] To:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: MI DXF import and local grid Date: Sun, 21 May 2000 23:07:12 +1000 I am trying to edit data which has been imported from a DXF file which comprises topographic contours, streams, and cultural data (buildings, roads etc) I have imported the DXF file with attributes and with a different table for each layer. After importing I now have the large DXF file and each MapInfo table has a .DAT, .ID, .MAP, and .TAB file. The DXF data has used the Australian Map Grid and this has been correctly retained after importation. However I wish to use a local non-earth grid to record geological/mine data and I have a spreadsheet which will convert Australian Map Grid coordinates to the local grid coordinates. My problem is that when I open in a browser window any of the TAB files, created by importation from the DXF file, they only show an ID column and no other data is displayed. Is all the data held in the original DXF file and a link maintained with the MapInfo tables? Is it possible, without writing code, to convert the data to the the local grid coordinates? MI SUM: Automatically Create Lines Between Points
Thanks to Tom Manson, Eric Frost, and Andy Beckett on this one. The question:- 'Does anyone know of a utility that will take a list containing co-ordinates of start and end points, and create links between them?' The answer is, of course, very simple and was provided by Tom Eric:- 'Just type in the following to the MapBasic window: update Tablename set obj = createline (X1, Y1, X2, Y2)' No real need for an mbx, just need to remember to enter a 'Set CoordSys' statement before the update statement. Andy suggested the operation was easily done in AutoCAD, but as it is so simple in MI, there isn't any need to follow that route. Re: MI Find duplicates in a column of MapInfo table
Peter, I don't see any need to export the data to Excel. Why don't you just use an SQL Query and use the Order By option to sort the data. Then you can delete the duplicates. Where there isn't a column that can be used to identify duplicates, I use Update Column to add object information (Area for regions, ObjectLen for lines polylines, CentroidX for points) to a temporary column that I can sort on. It's obvious from this data which objects are duplicates because it's very unlikely that theses values will be the same for non-duplicates in the situations I encounter. The handler for each of these buttons had a dialog remove statement in it. However, the dialog was not graphically removed until I changed the structure of the program as follows:- -Sub main calls dialog box procedure, -button handlers contain dialog remove statement and set a variable indicating which button was selected, -Sub main then evaluates variable with 'Do Case' and call another sub procedure which brings up a different dialog box This worked for me although the easiest way to dismiss your dialog is with the OKButton if you can.
