MI_SQL_MICODE question
Hi, I have a table in an Access database linked to MI through ODBC. I need to add records to this table. I have done that by directly adding them into Access and later geocoding them in MI. Problem is that one field remains unfilled and that is the MI_SQL_MICODE field. I have searched the online help, the user's guide, the MAPINFO_L list and have yet to come up with a decent explanation of what this field is and how to update the records with the proper code. Anyone out there that can hold my hand and tell me what it is?? Thanks in advance for your time. Sean

I believe NU becomes official in August of this year. It is still being used as NT for now. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of John Chioles Sent: Tuesday, July 25, 2000 10:47 AM To: 'Lindsay Giles'; 'Thompson, Dara L. I am adding a 2-character field to the "Cncty_3k" file to identify the Canadian Province (or Territory). As my source for the 2-digit code, I am using the "Province" column in the "Canada" table. I believe that both tables are the supplied with MapInfo. Here are the problems: 1). The "Cncty_3k" file says that the provincial name is "Nunvaut". The "Canada" file says that it is spelled "Nunavut". Which is correct? 2). The "Canada" file says that the abbreviation for Nunavut is "NT". That is the same abbreviation for the Northwest Territories. Can someone tell me what the abbreviation is for the Northwest Territories as well as the Nuvaut Territory? MI Digital export of layout
Help! This surely isa simple question but it's been wracking my head for a few days now. What I need to do is export a high resolution image in tiff or eps format to a mac user. I have exported in both but the problem is the image resolution is the screen resolution (not good!) and I can't find a driver that will let me export it in a resolution past 300dpi. Anybody have any suggestions? Cheers from Canada, Sean Sean Ramsay [EMAIL PROTECTED] GIS Programmer Analyst CDG Wood Distributors Ltd. 103-343 Railway St. Vancouver BC V6A 1A4 Ph. (604) 669-WOOD Fax. Summary of MI Save WIndow As Image not complete.
I posted a question a few weeks ago about incomplete images resulting form the MI Save Window As Image. A big thanks to the following who took the time to respond. Jaques Paris, Jason Adam, Brian Forrester, Alex Machinis, and Steve Wallace. Their responses are listed below. In the end, I 'faked' the image sizes in the image dimension boxes to a larger size and that seemed to take care of the problem. All the responses werevery informative and very much appreciated. ** I've run into this problem when saving a WMF file - it's sometimes doesn't keep the fills on the right side of the page. One way you can try "tricking" it is to set up your Layout as a letter size and get it all ready to go, then change the page setup to Tabloid or Ledger to make it bigger than you need. Hopefully the 2-3' it cuts off will only be blank paper. You will need to Crop the blank space off the image when you import it into Powerpoint or Photoshop of wherever it's going to end up. HTH, Jason Adam Computer Draftsperson Monopros Limited Toronto, ON [EMAIL PROTECTED] *** I don't know if this will help, but I could re-create your problem in the following way: Create a "portrait" shaped workspace on a 20" monitor (like wot I've got) Open same workspace on a 17" monitor (like others in my company use) - et voila, your workspace will have been truncated perfectly! I can't think of any other way to accomplish this. I don't know if this will be any help at all, but there's clearly some screen-dimension handling stuff in there that I've never got to the bottom of. These undocumented features, don't you just love them? I still use Mapinfo 4.1 (large installed 4.1 + 4.1 Runtime user-base) Regards, Brian Forrester Edinburgh, Scotland [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.woodmac.com *** If you have installed the 55026 patch, you have your culprit. I have found many problems with the graphic export functions, even a simple copy paste will leave a large part of the map in neverneverlands. Several aspects of that problem "have been filed as a bug" by MI support persons. I was so happy when 6 beta came out, I prefered that to uninstalling Mi to return to the 5.5 pure version. If you do not have 55026 installed, then forget my explanation. MI Random clustering of points
Hi, I have a point database of roughly 50,000 random distributed points over an area of 100km2. What I need to do is sample 10 random points within a 30km radius and get the closest 100 neighbours of each of those 10 points. This type of question has been posed before but I just couldn't get the answer I was looking for. It appears the RND() function (note to Mapinfo: there is NO online help on this function) doesn't do it on obj rather than field. Then there appears to be no nearest neighbour function either on points. Has anybody developed anything thatachieves what I'm trying to get at here? If not, any leads I can follow? Thanks for your time and I will most certainly summarize the results for everyone. Re: MI Employment Market Analysis
Hi Cheryl, I just started working at a marketing firm where I'm implementing a GIS using Mapinfo and Paradox to analyse target markets using individual address data (census data, credit card purchase data and the like) and as a starting salary, I'm getting 41,000$/ann. Once the system is implemented and the return is greater and steadier, I'm expecting low 50's. One thing though, this is Canada I'm writing this from so factor that horrible exchange rate in if you like. Hope this gives you a good idea. I wrote a similar note like yours a few years ago to the Arcview list. Sean Cheryl Pederson wrote: I work for a large medical corporation and am the only individual in the company using MapInfo to a great extent. I use the software for sales territory development (based on population and age, revenue history, competition history, etc), customer marketing analysis, redistricting, physician location, medical device therapy potential and much more related to sales and marketing. It has been very difficult for my management to identify the market on my kind of position and what the job requirements and salary should be. If you are a person with somewhat similar usage on MapInfo and wouldn't mind sharing what salary range your employer has categorized you in, I would greatly appreciate the information. Re: MI Add record number
Hi Everyone, What a great response I got from everyone even though the question is as simple as they come. My question was: How do you add a unique id number field to a table? Answer from 99% of the crowd was: Use 'rowid' in the value field of the Update Column function. Many thanks to E.Plachta, J. Chioles, D. Waardenburg, G.Hardman, D. Hansen, M. Knudsen, C. Perry, S. Kome, B. Humphrey, S. Wallace, J. Marlow, and B. Thoen. I appreciate all of your responses and time.
