MI Layouts in PDF, more problems

2000-04-14 Thread rl

When we are printing a document from MI to an EPS-file, Illustrator is not able
to read it. Normally we run it through Acorbat distiller and Illustrator is
normally able to read the PDF-files but we have experienced the same problem as
Matthew, with white lines segmenting the underlaying tiff image. Another wierd
thing about Illustrator is that adobe Illustrator is not able to read the same
eps files as Acrobat distiller is. And EPS-files made by PS 4 on a W95 machine
makes nice PDF-files that Illustrator reads well while EPS-files made by PS5.12
on a NT_machine makes nice PDF-files in distiller taht cant be read by
Illustrator. The conclusion is that there are several problems with Illustrator
understanding both eps-files and pdf-files from MI. We havent solved any of the
above problems. We can only hope that the eps-translator in Ilustrator 9 will be
better or that the PS-driver for NT and W95 will be updatet soon, wherever the
problem is.

Hi All

I need to send some maps to a client who uses Adobe Illustrator.
When I generated pdf files using Acrobat V4 the resulting documents seem to
have some tessalation scheme which segments the layout.

This makes any further work in Illustrator difficult. Has anybody come
across this problem, or got any better ideas for exporting high quality
layouts to Illustrator. (I have found wmfs unreliable and bitmaps too
large.)

MI patch55026.exe do not support CMYK.tif

2000-01-10 Thread rl

Hello listers

Before adding patch55026.exe to MapInfo 5.5, be sure that most of your images
are RGB and not CMYK. After running the patch, it is impossible to load
workspaces that calls in tif-images in CMYK.
The raster engine does not recognise the file-format!

Well patch to patch needed

MI RE:Exporting map on PC to a Mac as a Postscript file

1999-09-22 Thread rl

Print your layout to an eps-file and convert it to an PDF-file. Both Photoshop
and Illustrator reads pdf-files. Photoshop rasterizes all fonts and
vector-graphics while Illustrator also reads vectorgraphics and fonts as source.
Both programs should also read EPS-files BUT eps files written by MI has
something that either of the two programs like... I still don't know why the
PDF-distiller can read them but Illustrator and Photoshop cant. All three
programs are from Adobe and are also made for opening EPS-files

Re:MI MapInfo output

1999-09-20 Thread rl

By printing your layout to an EPS-file it is posible to import that file into
word. The problem is that the layout-window is not viewable in the word-document
but only on printouts on a PostScript-printer. By importing the eps-file into
Illustrator (first making it a PDF-file) you can wiev it in Word, but the size
of such an Illustartor-eps will grow from 1-2 Mb (from MapInfo) to about 30 Mb.
The printout from Word is still in PostScribt and therefore the quality from
MapInfo is maintained.
If other List-members have better solutions I will be very happy to hear about
them, since I think this method is suboptimal.
