RE: MI Create points

2000-05-16 Thread Lindsay Giles

Hello Jure -
Just select the points in the mapper (make it editable) then Edit-->Clear
Map Objects Only, then rerun Create Points on the correct columns;
Or
Table-->Maintenance-->Table Structure on the table and unselect the Table
is Mappable box. This will clear the slate, then rerun Create Points.

Subject: MI Create points

Hi listers,

I've created a native MI table with

Name XY

columns. The projection is NonEarth.
When I ran "Create Point" I choose wrong columns
for X and Y. Instead of X=X I chose X=Y and Y=X.

Running "Create Points" again doesn't move
the locations of points.

I know I can export to TXT and back to a new table.
Must I really do this?

 Thanks,

Jure,

Go to Table > Maintenance > Table Structure, select the table in question,
and uncheck the Table Is Mappable checkbox. This will remove all the
mappable stuff associated with the table, allowing you to rerun the Create
Points the right way.

Good luck,

Hi Jure

Go to Table | Maintenance | Table Structure, uncheck "Table Is Mappable" and
then click Ok. This will remove the map objects from your table, allowing
you to start over again with X=X and Y=Y.

RE: MI Create Points along a polyline

Tony,
This sounds a lot like a Rural Addressing issue. I am currently developing
applications to assist in this area, let me know exactly what you require
and I will develop a small application to generate the points for you.

B.T.W. If anybody else in the List is interested in this application, let
me know and I'll forward it on to you as well.

Hope this helps,

Subject: MI Create Points along a polyline

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone had used the program to create points along a
polyline at a nominated interval and then somehow labelled each point
sequentially. ie I have a road that covers 300 km and I have created points
at 10m intervals. I now need to attribute each point sequeatially from the
start automatically and get 30,000 points in the database.

Any ideas?

Can MI create points as it opens an Access DB?

1999-12-20 Thread Eric S Johnson

Here's something I've been able to do in ArcView, but have no recent
experience with in MI. Does anyone have any experience with this and/or
suggestions to offer?

I have an Access97 database that includes latitude and longitude fields.
I'd like to be able to open an MI table of that database so that all
records have point objects affiliated with them, based on the most
up-to-date values in the latitude and longitude fields. It'd be nice to
avoid having to create points by hand each time.

In the past, I've used a somewhat clunky workaround -- I wrote an MB
program to create the points. Unfortunately, one has to remember to run
the .MBX every time information changes in the Access database.

ArcView can 'create the points' (or whatever the equivalent ESRI term is!)
anew every time the data is opened and added to a view (=mapper). Does MI
have a similar functionality?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Sincerely,

Eric Johnson

RE: MI Create points

1999-09-22 Thread Bill Donaldson

Litea,

If you can't create the points correctly using MapInfo on its own, then you
obviously would not have much success using Discover, as Discover is an
add-on to MapInfo (written by Encom Technology) that still uses the basic
functionality of MapInfo.

Possible causes are:

1) You are using an incorrect projection and/or datum.

2) Are you specifying easting for the X coordinate and northing for the Y
coordinate?

3) If you have previously created points, do you then go to Table >
Maintenance > Table Structure and remove the checkmark that says "Table is
Mappable" PRIOR to choosing Table > Create Points? If you don't and you just
try to re-create points, the original map table will not be re-created.

I've tried to map a table of positions using Table\ Create Points but
haven't had much success. The points appear as much as 2km out in both the
northings and eastings! I tried creating the points using Discover but
Discover keeps blowing. Has anyone else come across the same problem and
found a solution? Please share it with me.
