RE: MI annoying feature of Windows 2K Pro?

2000-03-03 Thread James Harvie

Let's try this
again.

Ole,

In version 5.5 of MI Pro, MapInfo added functionality
that permitted third party software such as Vertical
Mapper to run in more than the first
instance.

  I
hope this is a feature ! (Vertical Mappe will only function on the first
instance of Mapinfo, so it would bee a great improvment, but I can also se the
  potential problems)

Dear Mappers:

With Windows2K Pro and MapInfo 6.0 beta, when I
have
a MapInfo running and double-click on a table
or a workspace
in Explorer,  it loads it into the currently running MapInfo rather

than starting a
new instance.

Is this a "feature" of Windows 2K or MapInfo
6.0 beta? How
can I turn off
this "feature"?

Thanks for any help or insights in
advance!

Eric Frost

Me too! Having a new instance of Mapinfo attempt to load results in the
program failing if you are using any of a number of third party Mapinfo
add-ins that aren't happy with multiple instances of some Win-32's.

Well, that depends on how you might want it to work. I have asked for
MapInfo Pro to behave exactly as you just described for several years now.

Mappers:

Steve Wallace suggested I turn off DDE
under
Tool | Folder Options | File Options.. this
worked
perfectly.

I tried retaining the original entry (as an
option
in the context menu) but Win2K Pro seems to
have trouble setting the default association..
oh well. Anyway, just turning off DDE handles
it.

Thanks
Eric
