Re: MI Raster image registration question

1999-09-08 Thread John Haynes

The feature is more than obsolete, it is a first class PITA when you are
working with multiple raster files as we do. An ability to easily disable
this "feature" would be VERY welcome. Aside from the versatility of Mr.
Sid, the speed of modern processors and video cards makes redraw problems
rather small. Not infrequently, I will be handling over a gig of raster
images with very few redraw problems.

By the way, ask an AkeView user if they can do that.

RE: MI Raster image registration question

1999-09-07 Thread Sue Port

Hi Fran,

Sounds like there's a zoom range set for the image layer.

The zoom range for raster images is automatically set when they are added to
a mapper so if you're zoomed out a long way on a high resolution image it will
not be drawn. You can turn off the zoom layering by going to the layer control,
selecting the raster layer, pressing the display button and turning off the
"Display within Zoom Range".

The reason MapInfo automatically sets the zoom range is to overcome lengthy
redraws. (ie a high resolution image can take a while to redraw when zoomed
out a long way). Unforunately this automatic feature is a bit obselete when
dealing with imagery that has re-scaling properties built-in (such as MrSID)
because it doesn't take any longer to view no matter what the zoom distance
is.

Regards,
Sue.

Re: MI Raster image registration question

1999-09-07 Thread climber

Fran the problem you face is with a feature in every MapInfo Layer.
It's called Zoom Layering. It gives you the ability to select layer by
layer at what map scales or zoom levels a particular layer is visible.
Your problem with the raster file is that it is currently set with zoom
layering on and at an inconvenient zoom range. Go to layer control,
select the raster layer and then click on Display. There will be an
option for Zoom Layering. You can turn this off, which will enable you
to see the map at any scale, or set it to a more appropriate zoom
range. The need for zoom layering is for screen redraw times. The more
imagery you have in a map window the longer the screen redraw. So you
can see a lot of raster images displayed at any zoom range and it would
take forever to redraw the map window.

Hope this helps,
