Re: MI-L selecting against block points
Eric I'm not sure I understand what you're doing. Are you just trying to select all the points which lie within a single polygon? If so, you can use the 'boundary select' tool (the one to the left of the deselct tool' in MI6), which allows you to click in a region, and it selects all the objects within that polygon. If it is not selecting the correct table, then use the ctrl key to select objects from a different layer, in the usual way. If I have misunderstood you, then this probably won't help... (I could break the block points out by state and put a 20-mile buffer around each one have a first step that determines which state the polygon is in.. blah blah. but I haven't given up on the simple way..) Is there much of a speed difference using the different spatial operations like Intersect, Contains, Within ? Will having everything specified in the same projection going to make a big difference? MI-L geocode
Hi all, =20 I've this problem. I have a street-map with Addresses and House numbers. The type of the house numbers columns is Char. In these columns there are many * symbol, meaning that the house numbering follows (without knowing the last house number of an edge and the first house number of the next edge) in the next edge of the same street. If I try to change the column type to integer, every * turns into a 0 value.=20 =20 This is not the right way, because now I have ranges of house numbers for a street like these: EDGE 1; FromLeft 0; ToLeft 20; FromRight 0; ToRight 40 EDGE 2; FromLeft 20; ToLeft 0; FromRight 40; ToRight 0 EDGE 3; FromLeft 0; ToLeft 0; FromRight 0; ToRight 0 =20 where I had before changing the column type: EDGE 1; FromLeft 0; ToLeft 20; FromRight 0; ToRight 40 EDGE 2; FromLeft 20; ToLeft *; FromRight 40; ToRight * EDGE 3; FromLeft *; ToLeft *; FromRight *; ToRight * =20 and the geocode doesn't work, because, for example, the house number 18 belongs to two different edges:=20 EDGE 1; FromLeft 0; ToLeft 20 EDGE 2; FromLeft 20; ToLeft 0 =20 =20 Any idea? =20 Thanks, =20 Marco Motta, Italy. ___ List hosting provided by Directions Magazine | www.directionsmag.com | To unsubscribe, send e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put "unsubscribe MapInfo-L" in the message body.
MI-L Re: MI Digest V1 #291
Karen, If you have ECW files which were compressed from tif or jpeg files with their corresponding world files then MapInfo should read these and they should be registered. The only reasons I can think they might not be is if the ECWs were created from images without world files or that your ER Mapper plugin to MapInfo needs updating. My advice would be to check that your ECW images are registered by using the free ECW Header Editor which can be downloaded from eMapSite (http://www.emapsite.com) under the ECW Imaging Software section (http://www.emapsite.com/downloads/ecw_imagery.htm). This will allow you to check the ECWs themselves...as oppose to the ERS files. If they are not registered simply recreate them using the ERS files themselves. You may find it beneficial to mosaic the images together into a single ECW mosaic (this should not cause performance reductions - we load 10Gb compressed (624Gb raw) ECW files into our GIS systems!). If you find that the ECW files are registered then I would reload your MapInfo plugin with the latest version (MapInfo/MapX ECW v2.0 raster handler plug-in v6014), again available for download from http://www.emapsite.com/downloads/native2.htm. MI-L unable to open layout

I have a similar problem! I have a program that runs when MapInfo is already running. So I create my MapInfo object using the "GetObject" method. My problem is that when I terminate my VB app control is not relinquished to MapInfo. Each time I try and do something with MapInfo, such as open a table, nothing happens. Or at least I think that MapInfo is still trying to open things inside my vb app. I issue a set mi = nothing command when my VB app terminates! RE: MI-L Another OLE Problem
I have managed to solve this problem myself. This is the problem/solution: Problem: I have created a MapInfo object within a VB app. This was done using the "GetObject" method in order to control an already running instance of MapInfo. When I set the object to nothing and close my VB app I have problems with MapInfo not displaying windows/dialogs. All that happens is an error from MapInfo saying "Unknown error occurred" Solution: What is happening is my VB app has closed, but MapInfo is still trying to send windows/dialogs to it - hence the unknown error. The solution therefore is to give control of child windows back to MapInfo. This is done by issuing "Set Application Window 0" - this sets MapInfo to its default setting, i.e.: MapInfo has control of windows/dialogs. This command should be issued before setting your mi object to nothing, or it can be issued from your mbx program if you launch the VB app from there so long as you issue the command!! ___ List hosting provided by Directions Magazine | www.directionsmag.com | To unsubscribe, send e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put "unsubscribe MapInfo-L" in the message body.

RE: MI-L MB Application run error in Proviewer
Hi Mark I don't know if you solved this or got many responses but you are not able to increase the functionality of ProViewer via an MBX. However you could change the workspace file to check the curdate against a predefined date. For exampe if you wanted the workspace to exit if the date is greater than 28 March 2001 you could add the following line to the workspace. run command left$("End MapInfo",1000*int(curdate()>"20010328")) You can use this same idea to provide lots of intelligence into ProViewer. I have a script (workspace file) that when opened checks to see if the user has selected a parcel and if they have grabs the street address and legal description which is then passed to another template file (workspace file) that produces a map at the best metric scale, adds logos and disclaimers, print dates etc and finally prints the map to scale and with the parcel details in the title. MI-L FYI CrimeMap Tutorial Now Available
-Original Message- From: Eric Jefferis [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, March 29, 2001 2:22 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [CRIMEMAP:545] CrimeMap Tutorial Now Available I am very pleased to announce the release of the CrimeMap Tutorial. In order to meet the demand for more widely available crime mapping training, NIJ's Crime Mapping Research Center (CMRC) commissioned the development of CrimeMap Tutorial, a distance learning tool developed by Professor Wil Gorr of Carnegie Mellon University. This tutorial enables students to learn crime mapping from their desktop or laptop computers at home or at work, and is designed for self-paced instruction. The purpose of the tutorial is to provide police with the skills and knowledge to produce the day-to-day crime maps that have been proven to help reduce crime. There are three parts: 1) using a crime mapping GIS, 2) geocoding police data, and 3) building area and pin maps. The final product, developed for use with either MapInfo or Arcview, is now freely available for download from the CMRC web page -- www.ojp.usdoj.gov/cmrc Our thanks go out to Wil Gorr for his work in developing the Tutorial, as well as to the Pittsburgh Police Department, the Pittsburgh City Information Systems, the Rochester Police Department, and the Rochester Bureau of Data Processing for making data available for this project. MI-L out of disk space on edit
Regarding out of disk space errors on editing a polygon and adding values in a info tool window... i have noticed that i get the "oods while editing error message" when i try to enter data for a newly created polygon. i'm allowed to delete the object or move it, but when i try to enter the street name, last name, etc to the info window, it get the out of disk space message. i tried changing info on other properties and i can. it has something to do with new polygons created. i got to the point again today where i was completely frozen and had to abandon ship. and i did search for .tda, .tma, .tin to no avail. jim thinks there may be some corruption involved. murray has had the same things happen, so i don't think it could have to do with editing styles. i ran across this situation some time ago when i was trying to enter the area of a property on a newly created lot. all other info was accepted but area gave me oods.
