MI-L Thematic Map - 'Show this Range' problem

2005-06-03 Thread Taylor, Zara
Can anyone help?

I've created a thamtic map on a polygon file, into 5 ranges coloured
like this:

0.8 to 1Red
0.6 to 0.8 Orange
0.4 to 0.6 Yellow
0.2 to 0.4 Green
0 to 0.2Blue

I don't want to see the blue ranges on the map, so in the Customize
Legend option in Modify Thematic Map I have unchecked the box which says
'Show this range' for the 0 to 0.2 range.

This makes the blue range disappear from the legend in the dialog box,
but when I click OK to return to main View the blue polygons are still
on the map.

I can't make out what is going wrong? Can anyone help?

Re: MI-L Thematic Map - 'Show this Range' problem

2005-06-03 Thread Erik Rude Nielsen
Zara,
Ticking that box only means it will not show in the legend.
To filter your values try using a query hsowing just the records you want to
see on your map.

Re: MI-L Creating your own icons on thematic maps

2005-06-03 Thread Lars V. Nielsen \(HVM\)
Hi Jesper,

If you're working with MapInfo Pro, this is definitely the right forum :-)

But are you sure you're talking about thematic maps ?

If you've worked with ArcXxx before, there the styles are applied to the
features by one of several methods.

However, in MapInfo this is different. Here each feature has its own style
definition, embedded within the feature itself.
This default style can be overruled on a layer-by-layer basis, and one or
more entirely different thematic stylings can be applied on top of that.

So it really doesn't make sense to talk about thematic maps with ones own
symbols. It makes sense to attach custom symbols to individual features, but
that's an integrated part of the data model. I assume this is what you are
asking for ?

If so, the easiest way is to create custom symbols is to build bitmapped
(*.bmp) symbols. These symbols are located in this folder (in 2k/xp) :

C:\Documents and Settings\\Application
Data\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\\CustSymb\

The previous limitation of 32x32 pixels is supposedly removed in later
versions (haven't checked), so it's possible to use fairly large symbols
with many colors if necessary.

RE: MI-L Mapinfo system error

2005-06-03 Thread Nabors, Steve
Hi Peter,
We get this error too. We first noticed it when we upgraded from MIPro 7.5
to 7.8. I think is a 7.8 "feature". We were on W2K at the time but now
we're on XP and it has not gone away. It only occurs on text and csv exports
to my knowledge. The good thing is that it's a benign error that lets you
keep going.

Greetings list,

Has anybody come across the following Mapinfo system error dialog, and can
tell me what it means?

"Unable to access string resource (3395)"

I am usining Windows XP, and Mapinfo v7.8

This dialog appears when I try to run an mbx I created using Mapbasic v7.5.
I have recompiled it using Mapbasic v4.5 but the error still exists.
When I dismiss the eror dialog, the utility loads and runs as it should,
with no noticable side effects.

MI-L MapBasic and Excel

2005-06-03 Thread Cathy Coldrey
 Hi,
I am writting a MapBasic programme that I want to open a document in Excel as
an external document. I can open Excel by using the run programme comand, but
am uncertain how to then open a specific .xls file at the same time. Has anyone
attempted to solve a problem like this before? If so could you shed some light
on the subject?
Many thanks

MI-L Fatal error in Mapbasic.exe

2005-06-03 Thread Terry McDonnell
Don't suppose anyone can help with this but ... who else do I turn to?

I've a project with several .MBOs, all to be link4ed together to one big
.MBX.
I've just made some program changes to one of my MBOs, compiled it OK.
Then I went to link the project and Mapbasic just bombed out on me with
an error report for M$

The essence of the error report is:

Appname: Mapbasic.exe
Version: 7.8.0.17
Modname: NTDLL.DLL
Mod. Version:5.1.2600.2180
Offset: 0001142e

... whatever all that means!

I assume there's some problem with a dll but what, why, when, where,
how?

Any help would be much appreciated

Cathy,

You should be able to pass the name of the excel file as a parameter as
below:

Run program "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\EXCEL.EXE
C:\Book1.xls"

MI-L Grid Value Extractions

2005-06-03 Thread Roy Roux
Does anyone out there know of a MI Tool or some other GIS software that
will extract a grid Z value (i.e. elevation) based on vector point
table? Another way to put this would be: For each point location within
one table return the Z value from a grid table nearest to the point and
store the Z value within column in the point table. I am sure ArcXXX
would do this with some module but am not interested in spending that
much money for this one task.

MI-L Concentric Ring Buffer

2005-06-03 Thread Ronning, Christine
Hi all,

I'm trying to calculate an estimate of population within a 1km distance
of medical labs.

To do this I'm using a concentric ring buffer...however I have a couple
of questions.

1- I created a 1km buffer first to see what it looked like and what
population polygon centriods would fall into the area. Then using the
concentric ring buffer I did the same thing, calculating the average for
my population poylgon for those where centriods are found within. My
problem is the concentric ring buffer is actually close to a 2km radius,
not 1. I did enter it as 1, any ideas why this is happening?

2- Does anyone know what the difference between the "Average" and
"Proportional Average" functions are and which would be a more accurate
estimate?

Thanks very much

Christine

Re: MI-L creating points in spatial ware

2005-06-03 Thread Lars V. Nielsen (GisPro)
Hi Robert,

Your query should at least read :

update dbo.T_FTPSITE_RAWDATA_MKYMTDATA
set sw_geometry = 'ST_POINT(' + longitude + ',' + latitute + ')'

and maybe even

update dbo.T_FTPSITE_RAWDATA_MKYMTDATA
set sw_geometry = 'ST_POINT(' + CAST(longitude as varchar(25)) + ',' +
CAST(latitute as varchar(25)) + ')'

The textual representation given to sw_geometry is parsed and executed (by a
trigger), but it doesn't allow for variable
substitutions, so you need to extract and format the values. Did you remember
to spatialize the table with "exec
sp_sw_spatialize_column ..." first ?

If you run the statement via a MapBasic program the command is as follows:

hStmt = Server_Execute (hDBc,
"update dbo.T_FTPSITE_RAWDATA_MKYMTDATA set sw_geometry = 'ST_POINT('
+ CAST(longitude as varchar(25)) + ',' +
CAST(latitute as varchar(25)) + ')'"
)

i.e. just as it's stated above, just enclosed in MapBasic text apostrophes. A
command in a command if you will.

You can use a stored procedure if you want, but the syntax of the update is the
same.

Subject: MI-L creating points in spatial ware

Hi all,

I have a csv table of data that includes x and y coordinate coordinates
that I want to insert into a spatialware sql server database. That part
is easy enough, but I want to then create the points on the server side.

This is the first time that I am trying to do object creation and
manipulation on the server through spatialware - normally all of this is
done through MI Pro.

I have inserted the data into the table on the server that has been
created with easyloader (and then had the data deleted), and I get the
records in OK. I am using an ado recordset, and on the program side I add
all the data to the recordset and the do an update. THis doesn't allow me
to create the spatial points as I add them to the recordset.

I thought I would then update the table with a command like this

update dbo.T_FTPSITE_RAWDATA_MKYMTDATA set sw_geometry =
'ST_POINT(longitude,latitute)'

where longitude and latitude are the fields that have the data for x and y
coordinates expressed in the projection of that table.

It seems to run OK, but then when i open the table up in MapInfo, there
are no objects in the table.

I am concerned that the field references won't carry through to the
procedure.

Is this syntax right, or should I use a stored procedure?

Help,

thanks r
