for subscription, you will begin receiving new mail from the list and will also
be able to post mail to the list.

To unsubscribe or change your account settings, go to the bottom of this
page where you will see form controls that you can use to modify your account.

You can do this all with email too. Just look at the X-headers in any
MapInfo-L message and you'll see the addresses to send a blank email to to
make the server do what you want.

[MI-L] MapXtreme2004 methods

2006-01-13 Thread Tim Smith
Hi,

Does anyone know the MapXtreme equivalent of these two MapX methods.

This method sets the distance units used - like Nautical-Mile/Kilometers
etc.
I have found the enum MapInfo.Geometry.DistanceUnit, but don't know how
to set the units
SetMapUnit(...)

This returns the width of the map window in units specified by the
SetMapUnit() method
GetMapScreenWidth();

Cheers

Re: [MI-L] voronoi polgon

2006-01-13 Thread Robert DeRubeis
I finally found the reason for the incorrectly shaped voronoi polygons.
It seems the Projection your points are in effects the shape of the
voronoi polygons created. The points table I used to create the voronoi
polygons from was in a Longitude/Latitude Projection, which created the
inaccuracies. When I saved the table and changed the projection to
Regional Equal-Area Projectons (North America), the new voronoi polygons
from these points was correct.

Thanks to all for the help.

I think the problem may occur at the edges, as the voroni polys are drawn

the edges of your data distribution in order to constrain the polygons.

I got the same results with only 26 points as with all 15,000 so I guess
the number of points doesn't seem to matter. Something seems to be off a
little in MI Pro as to how it creates the voronoi polygons.

I have used the Distance Calculator in MI Pro v7.8 and that gave the
correct closest store location. But I'm wanting to assign some 58,000
customers to the closest store. The number of customers will vary
depending on how many customers fall within that particular voronoi
polygon, which is anywhere from zero and up.

The whole problem seems to be the voronoi for each store is not
representing an area closest to that store for some reason. I'm creating
voronoi polygons from over 15,000 points. Could that be the cause of the
problem? Has anyone else had any similar problems?

Thanks,
Bob

Bob,

That sounds kind of strange. The voronoi for each store should represent
the area closer to each store than to any other store - just as you
expect.
And therefore each customer should be within that voronoi that also
contains the store they are closest to.

Have you tried using the DistanceCalculator, that came with MapInfo 7.8 -
or even the improved one for MapInfo 8.0 ? This tool will give you the
nearest x stores for each customer. x can be 1, 2 or as many as like. So
this would be another way of getting the result, you are looking for.

The tool from MapInfo 8.0 the result will be represented as a line
between the customer and the store. I'm not sure if this also is the case
with the 7.8 tool

Ang. Re: [MI-L] voronoi polgon

2006-01-13 Thread Mats Elfström
Hi All!

That figures. The low resolution of your point table probably affects the
voronoi code, when compared to close-up measurements.
I have noted that the function creates polygons that stretch to the edge
of the MBR for the point cloud for points at the perimeter of the cloud.
A useful extension to the tool would be the option to use a 'hull' polygon
to limit the size of such 'edge' polygons.

[MI-L] Labelling....

2006-01-13 Thread Mike Mayer
Hello List,

Yet another labelling question. This may be an easy one..anyways we have to
label a bunch of points and we need to get rid of the comma in the number,
any suggestions on how this can be done. I've tried using an expression,
but can't seem to figure out a logical one, or one that works. Any
suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Mike,
Label as expression, then use the following-

Str$(Column Name in your table)

This labels the numeric column as a string, removing any commas.

[MI-L] Drop-down boxes to populate tables

2006-01-13 Thread Giles
Hello there,

I am an experienced MapInfo user and have just purchased MapBasic. I
need to come up with an easy way of creating custom proformas with drop
down boxes to poulate tables in the field on tablets. I have been
looking at the 'control popupmenu' function within the 'dialog'
function, does anyone have any ideas? I have tried to do it by looping
x number of times and adding a new drop down box for eah loop:

i.e.

X = number of columns
Y = dropdown list string
ddist = the distance down from the top of the dialog box of each drop
down box

dialog
title Please fill in DATA fields

Ddist=ddist+10

'then the loop
For x = 1 to x
control popupmenu
ID x
title from variable Y
Position 100, ddist

next x

This doesn't seem to work am I barking up the wrong tree completely? Is
there a simple way of building data input boxes for tables?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

[MI-L] Beijing 54 datum transformation parameters

2006-01-13 Thread William Ralston
Hello All,
I am writing to this list in hope that someone can offer some datum shift
parameters for the Beijing 1954 datum to WGS84 or directly to Xian80. I am
aware that they are widely regarded as a state secret of some kind of the
People's Republic of China, but it also seems that MapInfo v8.0 has some
internal parameters used for this shift, while the tools offered by ESRI do
not actually perform a shift despite claiming to. I would rather not have
to manipulate points through MapInfo without knowing how accurate the shift
is. Does anyone know what values MapInfo uses, or how they were derived?
One thing I know for sure is that I am not the only one looking for this
answer. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
