MI-L MI 7.0 crashes when grabbing the window or saving

2005-03-31 Thread christian . cattaneo
Dear list

I encountered in the past two days some troubles while using MI 7.0. It
crushed 8 times already since yesterday morning. The cause was whilst using
the grabber to move the window either downwards or upwards MI has crashed or
while saving my work. As it crashed, I have remarked that the VirusScan
On-Access Scan was disabled. Is it enabled it works. Installed on my PC with
XP is VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0 with scan engine 4.4.00 From McAfee.

Did someone else experience similar threats? What may be the cause for such
crashes? I have open may Workspace in MI and a Word-document to take some
notes.

Thank you very much for your advice.

How can I split polylines automatically if I have a point table and a

MI-L Updating a table error message

2004-06-08 Thread christian . cattaneo
Dear all

Why does MI not update automatically a table when
*   both tables are editable
* both rows are in character
* both rows have differing titles
* no row is indexed on any of the two tables

I have tried to update it while joining (join where) either through Thema_1

an error message (unable to update the table).

Does anybody know why it occurs?

MI-L Exchanging Values in MI

2004-05-26 Thread christian . cattaneo
Hello

I have a spreadsheet with a specific value in each cell. Now I would like to
exchange the value with a letter. The following condition should be used for
it.

*   If x is exactly 0 then add a W (x=0)
*   If x is higher than 0, but smaller than 4.5 then add a G (0x4.5)
* If x is 4.5 or higher, but smaller than 9.5 then add a B
(4.5=x9.5)
*   If x is 9.5 or higher then add a R (9.5 =x)

How could I solve that problem with Excel, MI or should I use MapBasic?

Thank you for your help.

MI-L Importing / linking the color of an excel sheet into mapinfo and replace it with a code

2004-05-25 Thread christian . cattaneo
Dear all

I have an Excel spreadsheet in which each field has a value and a color. I
would like to import or link my MI file to that spreadsheet by using only
the color of the field. I would also like that Mapinfo replaces the color in
its table with a code like R for red, Y for yellow, B for blue and
W for white. How can I tell Mapinfo that it has to import only that color
and replace it with a code?

I'm adding an example how the spreadsheet looks like in Excel and how it
should look like in MI.

MI-L How to create automatically a transport network?

2004-03-29 Thread christian . cattaneo
Dear all

I would like to create a transportation network consisting of three tables.
One table has 50'000 point records the other has 500'000 polyline records. A
third table has the timetable and the route description of the buslines.

First I have to cut the polyline wherever a point intersects it. Second I
would like to use a function which might follow the route description of a
busline and automatically picks the line from that polyline layer. For
example busline 20 starts at the bus station 1, goes over to the 6 and ends
at 20. When all those lines are extracted between two bus stations then I
have to combine them. Which software, function or add-on could extract the
appropriate polyline as described in the route description?

Would there be any hint?

Thank you for your help.

MI-L Generalization

2003-09-10 Thread christian . cattaneo
Dear all

Does someone know a tool or a way in which MI would allow me to simplify a
network? MapInfo describes it as: The process of simplifying a data set to a
size which can be easily manipulated and represented. For example, a river
may have many twists and turns; however, if a map covers a very large area,
the river may be represented as a straight line. Similarly, in a map of a
very large area, a city might be represented as a point marker.

I have to generalize the rail network for illustrations. Which function in
MI should I use?

Thank you for your help.
