[libreoffice-marketing] Marketing Workshop proceedings
Hello, We had a very productive and fruitful marketing strategy workshop in Berlin. We didn't take minutes per se, and there was a live stream of the session. I expect the stream itself will be available again soon, alongside the streams from the other sessions. I have written however the various ideas that were discussed here: http://standardsandfreedom.net/index.php/2012/10/21/marketing-workshop-2012/ This means that we have a lot of work to do. Comments (here and on the blog) are welcome. In a few days we should start implementing them and build a real marketing activity here. Best regards, -- Charles-H. I think this thread has gone way beyond what the original posting was about. Yes, there is a point about calling a version conservative since a few people might see the name and think about their country's political party with that name. But the point is we are beyond using words like more stable in describing one line over the other. So it is time to move on and stop using this thread name. Maybe someone can start a new thread about how to describe the two lines for new users. When 3.7.0 comes out in Feb 2013, we will have the same questions being asked about which line a user should try first. At that point 3.6.5 will be out as well. SO end this thread and someone start a new one about what words, terms, etc., are needed to help NEW users choose between the two lines. Then by the time 3.7.0 comes out, we might have an agreement on how we can better promote our two line development cycle and its packages. end-of-thread please. Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Stable? Seriously?? Fw: [tdf-announce] The Document Foundation announces LibreOffice 3.6.2
Well we really need to have an easier way for the users find the more conservative version of 3.6.5 when 3.7.0 comes out. I do not think anyone would call 3.7.0 the version a new user should try first over 3.6.5. SO we need a better and easier way for them to get to that install instead of the default 3.7.0 downloads. Since the question keeps coming up, and we should promote both lines of our 2 line development cycle, we need an easy way to display/access both lines at the same time like shown in http://www.libreoffice.org/download-more/ If we do not show BOTH lines in the default download page, how can we say we are promoting both of our development cycle lines? That is the key point really. If we do not promote both lines, then why bother with updating the older line or have it available when 3.7.0 comes out On 10/21/2012 10:08 AM, Charles-H. Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Re: Community Pictures
Some people do not think that a photo montage is part of marketing. Photos and other images are very much a part of the marketing concepts for many businesses. Without them you would not have any TV or Print advertisements. We all have out preferences on which images would look good together. I have not seen the photos, or actually know where they are being displayed [which page, etc.] but we really should show the human side of LO. It it our people who make LO what it is, from the developers to the person who is promoting it locally. Actually, for photos, I use Jalbum photo gallery software [free] to create online photo galleries and slide shows for organizations. It takes the original size of photos and then automatically create a version the size I want [say 640 by 480 px] displayed on the web page, plus the thumbnails and all of the HTML controls. Then if I want to add or remove a photos, I just press the make changes option and it quickly does the work for me. It is much easier than any other method I have tried to use for placing a whole lot of photos online. I have 4 years of photos from many different events for an organization, over 1,400 of them. Without a package like Jalbum, it would not have been easy to add an event and its photos to the gallery for that year [say 2009 Christmas Party to the 2009 photo gallery]. I have seen many companies use photo galleries, maybe even Jalbum, to promote their product line, artwork, or other things that could use photos or images in a gallery presentation. Impress does similar slide presentations, but offline. We are not saying we should not use images and photos with Impress to create a promotional presentation for LO, so why not have an online gallery of slides do the same thing? RE: [libreoffice-marketing] Marketing Workshop proceedings
Hi, The blog post is good, and reading the manifesto gives a clear idea of why geo-specific marketing teams, event based activities and local user/developer communities are important. As the song goes, Que sera, sera, and it is not very important why there are 2 binaries, or why the recent threads do not add significant value to marketing LO. Website re-design is a good idea, as long as the community is also promoted there. Given that extraneous points may persist on mailing lists, where you cannot really lock or promote discussions. would it be possible to start the forums activity soon? It might be easier to track discussions there. For. e.g., I am interested in knowing, and possibly contributing, to the plans on Certifications and support/messaging for Corporate Deployments. regards Dhiren Subject: [libreoffice-marketing] Marketing Workshop proceedings From: charles.sch...@documentfoundation.org To: marketing@global.libreoffice.org Date: Sun, 21 Oct 2012 15:59:32 +0200 Hello, We had a very productive and fruitful marketing strategy workshop in Berlin. Re: [libreoffice-marketing] LibreOffice in banking sector
The largest Italian company providing IT services to the banking sector has migrated 1.200 seats to LibreOffice. I do not have many infos on this migration as the company does not want to be mentioned.
