[libreoffice-marketing] Two ideas about LibreOffice tips
Hi, 1- Currently we share LibreOffice tips on @libreoffice twitter account on weekly bais with #tipsoftheweek (14 char.) hashtag. For more circulation of the tips and user interaction - user based tips production, i suggest that we could ask users to share their own tips with a unique hashtag #LibreOfficeTips (16 char and its unique - no tweets yet) . With this unique hashtag, we can collect lots of tips from users. I have a script -didn't used it by myself, but i know the guys who wrote them and they will be glad to help us), which collects tweets with particular hashtags, which we can use it to harvest the tweets later. In addition to above, this hashtag on circulation will increase our brand awareness too. Also we can do it on Google+ which supoorts hashtags too. We can start a campaign from @LibreOffice account something like: A) "Your knowledge is valuable, want to share it with others? Start sharing your LibreOffice skills with #LibreOfficeTips hashtag." and B) "Sharing is caring, help us to spread the useful #LibreOfficeTips by retweeting the tweets with #LibreOfficeTips hashtag." 2- Currently we have 286 tips on http://pad.documentfoundation.org/p/marketing . I think it is time to move them wiki and start to translate this life/time/mind saving great content to our local pages. Or what about moving them to Pootle? [libreoffice-marketing] Easyhacks and carrots
Hi, Do we have a motivation strategy to for easy hack solvers? Sending merchandise gifts(http://libreoffice.spreadshirt.dk/) is a good way to motivate the community. Easy hacks have been already sorted by skills and diffuculties(https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/Easy_Hacks#Lists_of_Easy_Hacks), what about if we set a point system? Giving points to these hacks by diffuculty and merchandise gifts can be demanded by earned points? Also a laptop, a tablet can be put on top to increase the motivation. Easyhacks especially some papercuts are cruical and having them fixed asap will increase the usability. Also this model can be applied to qa works. Not limited to point system, regular or unpredicted gifts to community members increases the commitment. We had experienced it in Pardus project and it worked very well. I think TDF can arrange budget for such project, which won't cost much. What do you think? Basically maintaining the @AskLibreOffice is really simple. Basically you will respond to interactions and drive them correct channels. You are not obliged to provide answers, just redirect people: - If has a question -> Please ask you question through our portal ask.libreoffice.org - If has a problem - > Please report your problem to our Bugzilla https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/bug/ - If has a critism -> Thank you pointing, you may share your thoughts with others with Google+ Community or mail lists Etc. Some may ask very easy questions, if you have time and will you can answer or give a link from an already aswered question at ask.libreoffice.org These are the basic stuff. (Optional) But if you have time there is a thing that can be very usefull and increase the audience's attention and encourage Ask.libreoffice.org's members. Surf through answered question on ask site and pick a good answer to a question and share it as "Answer of the day" also you may give #ff's to high karma users in ask site or hard workers etc... This should not have to be regular basis, when you have time or have a good answer... Addditionaly i've already written a guideline in pad: http://pad.documentfoundation.org/p/marketing (starts at line 254) Paolo if you accept, i will send you the creditentials of the account. @Charles, I will look the tips as soon as i have time. Ask portal has a good knowledge accumulation, if it is harvested we wil have tons of tips i think Tom meant that. [libreoffice-marketing] Volunteer to maintain @AskLibreOffice twitter account
Hi, I still have been waiting someone to take over a maintain the @AskLibreOffice twitter account. https://twitter.com/AskLibreOffice (it currently has 315 followers and wont be hard to increase - posting "Answer of the day will be very very good ) Volunteers from QA has already taken over the bugzilla twitter account... I really have no time to maintain this account. And it will be very nice if someone from ask team or another volunteer to take this account Maintaining this account is relatively simple. Limited interaction and mostly resulting to direct users to "ask their questions through our ask portal" Other points are already stated in marketing pad. Copyig here for lazy ppl :) *** Guideline to LibreOffice Twitter Account Administrators - Maintain the automatic streams - Respond to interactions - Responding to mentions is a key point and the basic principle is being polite - Empathy is another key pointi thus try to understand angry and whining users - If someone is angry about a known problem, don't avoid to say that "we are sorry about your problem" - Canalize people to related channels of user support ie. ask site, bugzilla, user list, wiki etc. - Don't reply to swearing or rude trolls - Promote announcements and LibreOffice - Promote community and invidiual users. Giving #ff(Follow Friday)'s to contributors twitter accounts will increase the motivation - Do some public relations(PR) stuff: - Do regular search with #LibreOffice hashtag and other keywords for example "LibreOffice crashes" may be good for bugzilla account keeper "How LibreOffice" will may work for ask site account keepers. Aslo some search about Microsoft Office will work for example "Microsoft Office expensive" search should definetely has a good results to promote LibreOffice - Just reply some users that "Hey why don't you give a chance to LibreOffice it is free and a good alternative" etc. also some related search about Microsoft Office products will work and also "Microsoft Office alternative" search may be a good opportunity promote LibreOffice. - For ask keepers: try to post "Answer of the day -or- question of the day" and for bugzilla keepers "Great fix, another bug bites the dust" will keep the attention of followers. Also tip of the day will from the wiki or documentation be a great post for followers - Don't argue with anybody especcially with Apache OO's sarcasting or targetting tweets - Drive users to be proactive in community, like "Please submit a bug report about this issue, this will help us to improve our product" or "Please post your question to our ask site, our community will get the answer" - Always be positive and friendly to users and if there is a non-solotion say that "We hope that this will be solved in near future" or "We understand you" - Microsoft Office is doing a very good job in their professionally administrated twitter account, keep on eye them and get some new approaches *** Hands? Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Tip of the day tweets from @LibreOffice account
Hi, I mostly give links to how-to pages, which was -mostly-written by me :( May be we can work on Etherpad to produce this tweets. No restriction, or diffuculty level. We can start from simple actions to complicated XML filters... Btw, we don't have to be shy to tweet, thats twitter and it is streaming, not like mailboxes. As much as we use, we can benefit more and more. Could we open a pad and see what can we do? [libreoffice-marketing] Tip of the day tweets from @LibreOffice account
Hi, I think that we can use @LibreOffice account to stream "Tip of the day:" for LibreOffice. Giving tips(mostly a link to a wiki article, online help article, blog post or documentation, answer from FAQ, answer from ask.libreoffice.org) will be helpful for our users and RT's will bring more audience. Also good features will help marketing. I've been tweetting for the tip of the day from LibreOffice Turkey twitter account and it seems that the followers benefit from this. Documentation team can prepare a list of suggested tips and account owners can tweet. - Hybrid PDF's, PDF editing etc are still less known good features. There are many good tips can be streamed. [libreoffice-marketing] LibreOffice and TDF Social buttons
Hi, To improve our followers in social networks we can use web badges and snippets. As well as i was planning to do this snippes for our Ask.LibreOffice.org and Planet.documentfoundation.org. I thought that we can also use those in our blogs/websites etc. Here are the html codes which are ready to work by pasting into the active code of your website. - Twitter buttons: (Official buttons can be created here in a very simple way: https://about.twitter.com/resources/buttons) PlanetTDF: https://twitter.com/PlanetTDF"; class="twitter-follow-button" data-show-count="false" data-size="large">Follow @PlanetTDF !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=/^http:/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+'://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js';fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs'); Ask.LibreOffice.org: https://twitter.com/AskLibreOffice"; class="twitter-follow-button" data-show-count="false" data-size="large">Follow @AskLibreOffice !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=/^http:/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+'://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js';fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs'); LibreOfficeBugzilla: https://twitter.com/LibreOfficeBugs"; class="twitter-follow-button" data-show-count="false" data-size="large">Follow @LibreOfficeBugs !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=/^http:/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+'://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js';fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs'); TDF: https://twitter.com/TDForg"; class="twitter-follow-button" data-show-count="false" data-size="large">Follow @TDForg !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=/^http:/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+'://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js';fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs'); And you may create other types of buttons there easiliy. @Florian, could you update ask.libreoffice.org's Follow link with its button too :) --- For Google+: Google+'s official buttons and snippets can be found here: https://developers.google.com/+/web/+1button/ and it is very easy to have one. There are button types in the left menu tree) 1- The important +1button( Briefly, it is very important in Google's page ranks&search results) Generic +1 button(For Planet and our other sites): (function() { var po = document.createElement('script'); po.type = 'text/javascript'; po.async = true; po.src = 'https://apis.google.com/js/platform.js'; var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(po, s); })(); 2- Our Google+ Community's badge (Created via https://developers.google.com/+/web/badge/#community-badge 250 px with can be changed easily for design) https://plus.google.com/communities/105920160642200595669";> (function() { var po = document.createElement('script'); po.type = 'text/javascript'; po.async = true; po.src = 'https://apis.google.com/js/platform.js'; var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(po, s); })(); Facebook: I'm not a very active FB user and i still confuse what is Like and what is different with Share and Follow etc :) But to make a complete list here is the FB's official button pages: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/like-button/ https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/follow-button/ and other social plugins on the left menu tree pasting our LibreOffice's url https://www.facebook.com/libreoffice.org and pressing Get the code button which you like - I hope that the new design will include a good social bar for all our accounts. Anyway, don't hesitate to use this badges/buttons in your blogs, websites etc. Best regards, Zeki -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: marketing+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

[libreoffice-marketing] MediaFire.com and Apache OO
Hi, Today i was downloading a pdf from MediaFire and i saw that MediaFire and Apache OO has some referral relationship. I've uploaded three sample files to MF - http://www.mediafire.com/download/1ssxqapco3cp17i/Adsız+1.pdf - http://www.mediafire.com/download/s0nndij0b21zv90/Adsız+1.docx - http://www.mediafire.com/download/zmp5wh1aa7h2uwy/LXDE+renk+ayarı.odt When you click these links you may see the box(right) says that [filename] can be opened with: Apache OpenOffice doc, docx, odt, ods also PDF files have this suggestion there and it directs to Apache OO Download page. Thinking millions and millions of downloads in a day in MF, it seems a very good advertising there. I don't know if this suggestions are os based (but as i see it suggests Windows Photo Preview and Apple Preview to me on a Linux machine) FYI, Zeki -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: marketing+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

If we start form somewhere, we can draw the models for Facebook and Google+ especially the latter which has less number of but higher profile(cooler) users so the model will be unique for it. Having a model for twitter is simpler than those, as its more suitable for pr and less inter-community stuff-and no moderation needs- there. Also, twitter users are used to have lots of interaction with brands, organizations, political persons, parties etc and consider twitter as the first place to connect and interact. >> Do you know if there's an option to manually ask for validation, or >> do we have to wait until Twitter approaches us? > > If Zeki can jump in here, that's fine, otherwise I'll have a look. Well, the verification process will be relatively simple to us, as we have two real brands. Here is a simple how-to page http://www.wikihow.com/Get-a-Verified-Account-on-Twitter Seems very easy, hope twitter's respond time should be short. If twitter guys love freesoftware(they should) it will be easier for us :) Best regards, Zeki -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: marketing+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
Re: [libreoffice-website] Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Guideline to LibreOffice Twitter Account Administrators
Hi, @Charles, Joren took the Bugzilla account and now i manage Ask.LibreOffice.org and PlanetTDF accounts and i will be pleased to hand over them. @Joren, Sure you may use whatever name you'll decide as the QA team. But in my opinion leaving the name unchanged will be better. LibreOffice QA may be misleading. QA-quality assurance may not be very known term for regular users and can be confused with question-answers... Anyway, your decision :) @Florian and @Charles, If TDF and LibreOffice are seperate identities, one is the foundation the other is the product, keeping @tdforg for foundation announcements, pr of the foundation, donations and other campaings will be good. On the other hand after activating @LibreOffice account it will quickly gain followers, and 8K should not be a big deal. I feel that it has a great potential and will easily have more than 15K followers as it holds the official brand's name. If we promote it from our libreoffice.org homepage/download section etc it can grow further. Also we can verificate @tdforg and @LibreOffice accounts in near future as they are known brand and organization: http://support.twitter.com/groups/31-twitter-basics/topics/111-features/articles/119135-about-verified-accounts# Best regards, Zeki -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: marketing+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
[libreoffice-marketing] Guideline to LibreOffice Twitter Account Administrators
Hi, As you know we have the following twitter accounts: TDF: https://twitter.com/tdforg LibreOffice Bugzilla: https://twitter.com/LibreOfficeBugs Ask.LibreOffice.org: https://twitter.com/AskLibreOffice PlanetTDF: https://twitter.com/PlanetTDF LibreOffice(Passive): https://twitter.com/libreoffice As i've said before(and request of Joren) i have prepared a draft for the account administrators of these accouns in TDF Marketing Pad: http://pad.documentfoundation.org/p/marketing Please feel free to add/remove the guideline. I hope this will be a good reference to the admins. As i handed over the Bugzilla account to QA team-Joren is the new account keeper. I want-and should to- hand over to Ask.LibreOffice account to someone from the ask team. Please contanct with me about this. Also, i pointed the importance of social media before, and i repat that we should not miss this opportunity. So we should need a better social media marketing. This is my suggestion to activate the @LibreOffice account and do the PR from there. Social media is a great opportunuty to promote the porduct with a low cost and high benefit. Thus i recommend to employ a part time(or home) social media personel to manage @LibreOffice account and more(Facebook, Google+ and Linkedin(not yet deployed but can do great job in this business specific social network) if it is possible. The return will be great. I want to underline the importance of social and personal communication where now we should easily have a good channel from twitter. We are all volunteers and we cannot have the effective time for this, so if we could arrange a budget for this - and sure it wont cost much as an exhibition- the best way is to hire someone with good communication skills and basic LibreOffice knowledge. I would like to remind you that our brand awareness is still lower that (Apache)OpenOffice: " 1.st comparison Tweets per day: LibreOffice OR "Libre Office" and OpenOffice OR "Open Office" http://topsy.com/analytics?q1=LibreOffice%20OR%20%22Libre%20Office%22&q2=OpenOffice%20OR%20%22Open%20Office%22&via=Topsy 2nd comparioson including Microsoft Office http://topsy.com/analytics?q1=LibreOffice%20OR%20%22Libre%20Office%22&q2=OpenOffice%20OR%20%22Open%20Office%22&q3=%22Microsoft%20Office%22%20OR%20%22MicrosoftOffice%22&via=Topsy (advance search tells how to use additional operators) " See how Microsoft Office is doing a good job in twitter: https://twitter.com/Office I have been thinking about this for so long, and this is the best solution that i can bring here and it is my strong recommendation to hire a someone for this. For the last, this person can also has the role as community coordinator too. Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Ask.LibreOffice.org and Bugzilla Twitter Feeds - Short stats

Schulz : > Hello Zeki, Hi Charles, > About ask.libreoffice.org it would be interesting to see how high is > the transfer from users asking questions to users becoming involved in > the community and not only staying on ask.libreoffice . I don't think there is a technical way to track their involvement. The best way is to ask the Ask.LibreOffice.org users that :) I think ask portal must have a mass-mail function, we may use this i think. Btw, Mass-mail can be used to improve the dynamics of the ask site. I think we should not be afraid to scare or bore users with mass-mails. Not frequent but friendly mails can keep the attention of the registered users. Also we may use it to poke the users whose question waits an unswer - or the given answer needs to be checked as correct. Twitter, FB, Linkedin... All social platforms uses it very well, why not our social platform? The key point is to prepare good messages. > On the Planet TDF -and at the risk of reopening an old thread- I think > we could get even higher numbers and visits by making it truly > multilingual. Right now we only have the blogs that are in English, and > I think our most active contributors who may not write or blog in > English should be on it. Combing many languages in a planet may not be good. I only know English as a foreing lang. like many others and seeing a mixed planet will be not very meaningful for me :( But separating them into sub-planets which can be easily reached from main planet(like a bar on top) may be work imo and this may encourage local planets and communities. The actual need of the planet i think; 1- Encourage current residents to write more frequent... 30 of 51 residents has not written anything in last 50 days(or more) :( That's not a pleasant number. 2- Increase the number of blogs aggregated. We have many devs and contributors and i think they should share some interesting stuff y spending a little time on blogging. I know we cannot force ppl to write. Many people don't like to write or has not a regular habit :) Best regards, Zeki -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: marketing+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
[libreoffice-marketing] Ask.LibreOffice.org and Bugzilla Twitter Feeds - Short stats
Hi, I've blogged about the stats of ask and bugzilla twitter accounts stats [1] in July which gives a brief about the accounts. Well i would like to share the last stats which makes me happy to see increasing clicks. For the last 30 days Ask: CLICKS 1,806 POSTS 446 CLICKS/POST 4.0 Bugzilla: CLICKS 2,612 POSTS 829 CLICKS/POST 3.2 These increasing numbers made me happy and i wanted to share before having time to blog about them. I want to hand over these accounts to suitable persons form QA team and Ask team whom i hope to make active promotions(like tweeting, promoting etc) Also Planet TDF has impressing numbers with a smaller audience as the account is new: CLICKS 327 POSTS 50 CLICKS/POST 6.5 For whom having twitter accounts and not following the accounts are: LibreOffice Bugzilla: http://twitter.com/LibreOfficeBugs Ask.LibreOffice.org: http://twitter.com/AskLibreOffice Planet TDF http://twitter.com/PlanetTDF For whom already following; please #ff and RT these accounts :) I'll do some more promotions on user lists and qa-lists next week if i have time. If you have time please spread them in your social networks. Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Re: Engaging Users?
2013/10/21 Charles-H. Schulz : > Now let me ask the "What" question, after we sort of figured out the > "if" and the "how" parts. This would mean: what do we tell users? Do we > tell them there's a community behind LibreOffice (good point Zeki, many > people are not aware of that, which in a sense is flattering) or do we > give them clear pointers to the various tasks, roles and teams of our > project? I was involved with Pardus GNU/Linux projects old community, i was one of the community managers for a short period of time. We tried a lot of models... The project also had paid community coordinators... It was bad times for the distro(government's wrong decisions etc) and it didn't worked out. The last project we tried was building a community portlal(a social network build on elgg software)... As you already know, expanding the community has some key points, recruiting qualified contributors and maintaining their will to make regular contributions. Encouraging them and appreciating their work is required to avoid exclusion. Having the first introduction on download page will be good, but there will be first time users and old users(upgraders). Driving them into community processes must be very clear, the will to contribute and their potential skills must be clearly matched that the newcomers can find a good place to get into the community. Also lots of people will say - ok now, tell me what can i do? The best and old way is personal relations, i am always trying to persuade my network to contribute to LibreOffice and it works - the i have convinced Efe Gürkan Yalaman and he was one of our GSoC students. I think many people in our community do the same. But it will be hard to take care of a potential contributors pool, which requires too much time. The solution could be applying EasyHacks model for other areas. Showing them the works to be done or on progress and pointing the minimum required skills. I see this topic very important, and i think we need volunteers to team up and work on this subject specifically. A survey can be helpful to determine our user profile; how they think about becoming a contributor, do they see it very hard to get on, or are they aware enough that LibreOffice needs involvement of -many- new contributors to improve, do they think that the project have enough contributors? Targeting right questions will trigger pro-active thinking of potential contributors, also we may ask them what obstacles they see avoiding them to contribute etc. User list and other social platforms will be a good pool for this survey. Last, i think that such survey will give some answers to us or provide a new paradigm specific on LibreOffice's user/community model. At least, it is a basic interaction which can trigger the awareness of the need of contributors. Anything can attach new contributors will be great to discuss on. > How do you think this could work? Is it desirable? I think it will work if we have a convincing and inclusive language on the related landing pages and Get Involved pages. (BTW it will be better to use Contribute i/o Get Involved. It is more pro-active and inviting). Banners or some other interactive stuff may bring visitors to the promo pages or some kind of survey (step by step) questions like - do you consider to contribute -email name etc to collect the possible conttibutors on a pool and poke them frequently in future... - have you ever contributed any free software projects? - In which area you may contribute - Choice of Local or global work areas. Local decision will redirect to local community. - Global choice will drive to specific area's related page etc etc... Btw we should emphasise the term "community" more often. People think LibreOffice is developed by some specific organizations not like other fs projects where community is on stage. I may be wrong but more inclusion is needed imo. [libreoffice-marketing] Promoting LibreOffice on Twitter - A Small case
Hi, As you know lots of brands use Twitter actively for promotions like: "Retweet this and follow us and win a free ticket to London / get a free tablet /t-shirts/ concert tickets" etc... Yes they are commercial stuff and this operations are advertisement, covered by its budget. Today i've tweeted -just for fun- ; "Win a free office suite for unlimited use and updates! Just RETWEET this message and visit http://www.libreoffice.org/download Grab your #LibreOffice !" Got some RT's limited because of my network is commonly Turkish speaker ppl. Then one of my friends replied that that click caused him 5 USD's. That was good because he followed the donation redirection from the download page and donated to LibreOffice. He is a free software supporter and sensitive to donations. Anyway, i wanted to share this small event with you to point that, twitter is a good platform for promoting LibreOffice -at least to freesoftware sensitive individuals. On the other hand, we should analyze how Microsoft Office uses its account at https://twitter.com/Office which has abot 170.000 followers * Announcements, -limited- relations with customers, tips and "JOKES(-unfortunately:P)" Of course it is administrated by professionals and pays for sponsored twits to followers networks etc. On the other hand we have 2 accounts at: @iibreoffice - https://twitter.com/libreoffice refers to official TDF account @tdforg - https://twitter.com/tdforg TDF account has about 7.000 followers and used for announcements(mostly versions and conferences) and a little bit from other stuff, totaling 468 tweets, while office has nearly 19.000. If we need to speak a more social media language and metrics to measure the efficiency, Office has 88 Klout score and tdforg has 54 while Florian has 47 and i got 53. I think we can use social media's potential to promote LibreOffice more than the current situation. Well, it is seems to be decided but i think @libreoffice will have a better brand value and it should be promoted seperately from tdf as it is the target; product to be promoted. Also some polish needed for this accounts(background, new header part etc). We can talk and determine how we can use this accounts more efficient.(for ex. sharing an article from help.libreoffice.org as the tip of the day, or intersting questions or workarounds from Ask site etc) Yes we don't have much time but, i think we can make better jokes than Office at least, right? [libreoffice-marketing] Re: [libreoffice-users] Ask.LibreOffice.org and Bugzilla Twitter accounts
Hi, I want you to inform about some minor updates: - I've moved the external service for Ask site to dlvr.it because of detailed statistics - I've added FIXED bugs to Bugzilla stream. I've selected Bug Status= Resolved, Resouliton=Fixed criteria, if i should add more criteria please notify me. So this was the fix of fdo#50096 (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50096) Well, also i checked dlvr.it statistics for Bugzilla account, despite of having only 24 followers at the moment- we had good number of clicks(276), we have 2,2 click ratio per link. Which means a streamed bugs report on bugzilla has seen by 2,2 people. Which is a good number and it is additional traffic. The geographical distribution seems good too.If we can increase the number of followers more traffic and interest will be provided. For last 24 hours, 73 clicks, 24 posts which means 24 new bug is opened, ratio is ~3.0 per click) Also i tried to check the statistics for Ask site but twitterfeed has limited statistics, nearly %80 of questions has clicks, some has more than one. Which is also good for the moment which we have 44 followers. If you have twitter accounts, please follow the streams -whichever gets your interest and will to contribute LibreOffice Bugzilla: https://twitter.com/LibreOfficeBugs Ask.LibreOffice.org: https://twitter.com/AskLibreOffice (Personally following this feeds increased my interest on both sites, answered some questions and wanted to answer more but i have a very limited time for the moment) Also posting about this accounts on TDF planet(http://planet.documentfoundation.org/) may help to promote this twitter accounts. I will be posting to Google+ page and Facebook Page to get more followers and (weeks) later i may write a blog post about how to contribute LibreOffice by doing simple QA jobs in bugzilla and just simply answering others questions in ask site including this accounts. Your individual promoting of this accounts will be very appreciated indeed :) Well, for the moment i am very optimistic about the gain from this accounts. May be the first excitement may be worse, but we will see in numbers in next month and following months. Sorry for multiple-list-disturbance but this issue is related with all. [libreoffice-marketing] Ask.LibreOffice.org and Bugzilla Twitter accounts
Hi, You know social media is a very effective channel for getting people's attention. Also it can be used a regular reminder/ping'er/poke'r for communities. So using the social media's advantages to increase the community's attention on Ask.LibreOffice.org site and Bugzilla will be good imho. We had used this method in Pardus GNU/Linux and it worked. After asking to Florian for his advice that if is this possible to use this channels for LibreOffice, i've creaed two twitter accounts. The new accounts are: LibreOffice Bugzilla: https://twitter.com/LibreOfficeBugs Ask.LibreOffice.org: https://twitter.com/AskLibreOffice I've connected ask site's new question feeds and bugzilla's new bug's feeds to this accounts. The goals of having this accounts are: · To keep more attention on questions and bugs · Make community contribution process more social · To poke/ ping community’s members and asking for the minimum contribution that can give constantly · Spread the questions and bugs to their networks to find answers as soon as possible which will increase the possibility find the person whom has the answer · Make our ask and bugzilla more open to the community and increase the number of persons(not regular contributors) Well, there is also reasons under the “What current situation misses” questions · Having lots of bugzilla mails is not for ordinary community members, people does not want their inbox is filled with bug mails which most of them are not in interested. But twitter streams are different, it comes and passes through no rubbish left there. Trying to confirm a bug is generally a simple work to do, we can involve more people(other than the regular bugbusters) to have with this feeds. · Visiting ask site is not a practical exercise made every time, or getting feeds from Google Reader is not practiced by everyone, but most people use social media actively. This means more eyes will be on ask and bug sites constantly. · As said above, having constant attention for this sites are not possible for passive contributors · There is no chance to spread the questions through LibreOffice related networks. But with this accounts, the followers will generate a core LibreOffice network which will be feed through this accounts. I hope that this accounts will help to decrease the unanswered questions in the ask site(1.191 questions ~1/3 ) and activate more members to help triage bugs in bugzilla. If you have a twitter account please follow and promote/announce this accounts. Of course the most important thing is the interest of community and the will to became a part of this wonderful community to make LibreOffice the best free Office suite ever. [libreoffice-marketing] Google and ODF support!
Hi, As you know Google currently is not supporting Open Document Format native in its services. Today i saw this article http://www.muktware.com/4529/why-google-killing-open-document-formats#.UTYr7U44lHE.twitter and remembered this issue. This article explains the situation quite well. I don't know the reason why Google does not support ODF, maybe it was discussed here before. But i think we may try to push Google to support ODF. I don't think there is a reasonable explanation for ignoring ODF and supporting MS Office formats and forcing people to convert their ODF to Google Docs format. Btw for comparasion, -yes not Skydrive of course- Yandex company with growing popularity in Turkey and Russia supports ODF in its Disk service. It may be an example for good aproach to ODF. What do you think about Google's positioning for ODF? Can we manage to force/attract Google to support ODF? I've mentioned and asked htps://twitter.com/cdibona about this matter but no replies yet Best regards, Zeki - http://support.google.com/drive/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2423485 -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to marketing+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
Re: [libreoffice-marketing] US Journalist blames LibO for lost work
We are using MS Office in work. It even corrupts the docs by itself. Suddenly the docs which you just saved yesterday corrupts and it cannot be opened by Ms Office 2007. Only Word Viewer opened it. I had experienced it many times. We have upgraded to 2010. I haven't reproduced it but it has already major comparibility issues with 2007. The point what i wrote this that everyday ppl experience similar errors. I am working in a bank and me and my colegues just accept this kind of disaster and repeat the work . There is no place to complain with or blame with anger. It is certain that especially you do not have someone to hear you on MS Office side in local. Even you have succeded and they fixed something, when it will be usable, next sevice pack? When your it will apply it? We have 20.000 computers. The good part of free software is the thing that we have experienced; communication, cooperation and rapid development which brings urgent fixes and implementions. Nothing is perfect but these stuff leads wellness. Serious works needs safety more frequent saves saves lives :) Seriously i hope this will lead an improvement in LO autosave and file recovery functions Regards, Zeki -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to marketing+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Re: [el] translation of today's PR
Hello, Here is the Turkish translation. I will announce it to Turkish mailing list, Turkish LibreOffice forum and Turkish Linux Users Organization's planet and wherever i can reach. I hope we will raise funds which is the most we can. Having credit card option is great, as the other methods are: * wire transfer - expensive and requires legal stuff * Paypal - increasing number of users but, registration and bank side applications etc. I think the easiest way to donate from Turkey is Credit card. And i was waiting that, though i have donated some on monday :) Well having more currencies great, but i wish Turkish Lira will be in this list. After debitting in foreign currencies, banks apply buy/sale transactions and the amount in local currency is calculated by using a higher rate as you know. If it is possible adding TRY - Turkish lira will be good. Also, -i've missed the thread as i mentioned above- i would like to ask about the localization of the Donate page. Currently it is only available in German besides English. We would be happy to translate it to Turkish and start our campaign to get donations from Turkey. Regards, Zeki Sent from my mobile. [libreoffice-marketing] Imporving OOXML Support in LibreOffice
Hello, Yesterday I saw the news for the improving OOXML support in LibreOffice in OSB-Alliance website[1]. Also the news took place in H-Online in English.[2]. Personnaly i am very happy to see such initiative for an issue which usually stops the migration wishes to LibreOffice. Of course there is opposing views, one i saw here[3]. I don't agree with this arguments. Well we all support ODF, but this impovement cannot be considered such a support for MS Office. I am working in a bank, and nearly %99 of our clients use MS Office software as we do, i use LibreOffice personally and always check the incoming files that how they are looking in LibreOffice. On the other hand i try to create MS Office files with LibreOffice and open it with MS Office, the results was not bad, but mostly it is far from the minumum acceptable level. Nothing to start flame, but it will be very nice to be informed about this project and how will it change our marketing arguments positively. [libreoffice-marketing] Google Search Suggestion LibraOffice i/o LibreOffice
Hi, I dont know if it is about Turkish google search results but, Google still suggests LibraOffice when i search for LibreOffice. It has been nearly 2 years but Google still suggests this Libra Office. Is it some kind of ignorance, or some technical problem? I took a screenshot, and posted it to Google+ [1] and twitter for the attn pf Google, Google Enterprise and Google Devs. Can you confirm the same issue? If so, how can we connect with Google search and ask them to fix this issue. The funny part that, there is no such a thing called Libra Office, this misusage led people to write pages for isntalling LibraOffice for the installation of Libreoffice. Try searching for Libra office. Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Turkish classrooms to use LibreOffice
-Simon Phipps wrote, >You missed the last sentence of that paragraph: "Unless Microsoft makes an >intervention and gifts Microsoft Office." >Too much publicity too early might not be helpful. Do we have anyone from >Pardus in the community to advise us? >S. Hi, I wroted that blog post, and thanks to Florian bringing the subject to here. It was really a good decision to select LibreOffice as the default office suite. But as Simon's worries, you may get worried about Microsoft's possible interventions. Well, as we all know, they will surely will :). As they did before. We should accept the fact that, Microsoft is a very powerfull company and has long arms, as their well organized professionals will never stop. As you may see in that blog post, Microsft Windows added the to the final version of the tender documents. We have heard that Pardus was the only OS in the tender docs, we had intel about that, and confirmed it from different sources. But somehow the final versions included Microsoft Windows. This was not strange, as it is the marketting list, you may see this situation on the bargaining view. Pardus worked as a bargaining chip too. With this manoeuvre Microsoft's licence prices were nearly 0(rumorus say that it is even minus). Now, i think there is no need to worry about. Situation is quite clear, tender docs finalized with addendums, they are published and the first phase of the tender was awarded to Vestel A.Ş. for 3.657 schools 84.921 Interactive smart boards. http://fatihprojesi.meb.gov.tr/tr/icerikincele.php?id=1 There is only way for Microsoft Intervention; gifting Microsoft Office... As we see it in the Addendum's Question-Answers part, tendereres questions(which is more like an offer) as follows: Page 30, Item 2.39.7 Amendment request: In the tecnical specifications of the tender file, the item 4.7 and 4.12 points that various document formats will be supported. It is our opinion that a production suite which will work with this document format flawless and suits with international standards(as ISO)... (some useless "words"-sorry for that it is 23:47 pm :)).. In consideration of this findings, it will be advised that adding the following clause to the item 2.39.7 "Microsoft Office Starter 2010, free of Charge" will be in favour of the administration, and it will be required for a unproblematic user experience. The answer of the tender committee is as follows: "As the firm is not directly related to the tender, no answer is given." This means, the committee stands strong, and it is their trupm of having LibreOffice. Well, will Microsft be gifting MS Office, yes surely they will, it is vital for their sustain their envirioment. But the gifting is not decided by the tender docs. May be delivering the DVD's school by school, or a surprise package by the contractor company...We don't know. By preffering free software(both Pardus GNU/Linux and LibreOffice) Turkish government saved a lot of money. If they were not even mentioned, the license costs will be a big burden for the funding of the project. This issue may be used as a sample case for the marketing works of LibreOffice. So, there is no worry to be silent, on the contrary, we need people's voice. Microsoft is a very big compainy, one of the worlds powerfull... They hear everything, and always they are one jump ahead. Their employers -especially- in the developing markets are very professional and powerfull people, so they already know, already planning everything, which we are unable to see or calculate... So don't worry, we had the same dilemma with the decision of Pardus for Interactive smart boards. The thing we experienced that, talking with high volume is better, public support is the key thing, if you have enough public support things will not be easy for them. The only thing remains is the public opinion and support. There is a word in Turkish, Water sleeps, but enemy does not! So just relax, it will be nice for sharing this news :) *Also you may see the LibreOffice amendment on the Zeyilname(Addendum)-> Fatih Projesi Zeyilnamesi-MEB-Page 31 Direct Link: http://www.ubak.gov.tr/BLSM_WIYS/HGB/tr/Belgelik/20111026_17_10472_1_44520.doc Official project page:(oops some English content has just added: http://fatihprojesi.meb.gov.tr/tr/haberincele.php?id=29 -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to marketing+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
