anyone interested, feel free to read up on our meetings. :)

[Marketing] Fedora and other OSs in Digital India Policy Document

2016-03-19 Thread Rajesh Ranjan
Hi,

http://deity.gov.in/DeitY_e-book/e-gov_policy/download/Policy%20Document.pdf

The Policy Document ^^ of Govt. of India is the document of e-Governance
Policy Initiatives under Digital India. The docs contain different policies
in which open source policies are very important.

You will be glad to know that in the same doc there is an ‘Illustrative
list of OSS’ under Annexure-II in which for Desktop OS category BOSS,
Ubuntu, Debian, and Fedora are listed.

Comment (by zbyszek):

This might be somewhat niche, but for some people it's important, and it
ties nicely into the university outreach program. Fedora has nice support
for the Python scientific stack, including Python 3. A bunch of packages
has been added recently through the NeuroFedora project
 [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1276941], but also some other
things like python-sphinxcontrib-bibtex. Of course there's numpy, scipy,
matplotlib, ipython, vtk, etc, etc. Altogether this forms a pretty
 environment for scientific python work.

Hi Justin

The biggest question I have right now is whether I need to be a part of
the marketing group to log in to the other sites. I have an FAS
account, and the CLA has been signed, but when I try to sign on to the
TRAC, I get a "you are not allowed here" message, and the wiki tells me
that my login info is bad.

As for what I <3 about Python in Fedora, I would say that it comes down
to the fact that the packages I need are in the repos, so I can manage
everything with one package manager, and the ease of transition to RHEL
instances. That said, I didn't really choose Fedora as a Python
developer, but as someone who appreciates free software and Fedora's
stance on it.

James

I am the creator/maintainer of Fedora Scientific. Python tools and
libraries are actively being used in the scientific community and Fedora
has its own lab product to cater to those in the form of [http://fedora-

 Scientific].

I think this would make a nice point for what you are after.

This might have been the ticket Patrick asked me about last week. I'm
putting this on the agenda to get it in motion or at least back on the
 discussion table.

Awesome! In the Magazine meeting today, we decided we would aim to get
the GIMP article published next Friday. Ryan was going to edit your
article and create the featured image.

If you can have it ready by Monday, that would be awesome. Thanks for
working on this, Sylvia! We appreciate your time helping contribute
articles. :)

#219: Create Python talking points for Ambassadors

Comment (by churchyard):

As a Python Maint and Python SIG team member and an ambassador I would
 love to participate on this.

 Random thoughts:

  * We also have pypy and pypy3 in Fedora. Remove Jython form the brochure
as it is outdated and maybe nobody works on that.
  * When doing some designing, see also https://github.com/fedora-python
 /fedora-loves-python
  * There is a Python section on http://whatcanidoforfedora.org/
  * See http://fedora.portingdb.xyz/
  * Our infra project use Python, our tools like Anaconda and dnf use
 Python

I was also about to propose some marketing thing with #FedoraLovesPython
hashtag on Twitter etc. (For example on EuroPython, hand over the
sticekrs, ask people to tweet pics of their devices with those stickers
with hashtags #FedoraLovesPython and #EuroPython in order to win some
prices or get a badge or something). Maybe we could use #FedoraLovesPython
 also in the brochure.
