sure, but nevertheless would I expect more 2 other names

openoffice-site - the website www.openoffice.org
openoffice - the project site openoffice.apache.org

But it is probably not so important, it would be simply easier to
understand and more straight forward from my perspective.

I always publish this way, without the CMS:

# the user portal

Thanks is odd that the instructions are not that easy to find, they are
embeded on the comments on the script.

Turns out just doing this will work:

ssh -t $u...@people.apache.org publish.pl $project $user

I just wonder if the $project is 'openoffice' or 'aoo' my guess is the
first.

Ok just did that, I wonder how can I do this from the publish.pl script but
I dont think I have it on the svn pull, maybe is further down the branch.

Could I download it directly from the SVN an use it? or does the script
have dependencies?

I think so. It sounds like you are checking into SVN directly. That
gets the changes under version control, but it is not automatically
pushed onto the website.

Here's what I do:

1) Check into SVN

2) Use the CMS bookmarklet to get into the CMS, at either the root, or
the subdir that I'm working in.

3) The CMS then has an update button that does an svn update into the
staging source directory. So it suck in the latest changes from SVN.

4) Then I wait for the site build to complete, usually only 20 seconds
or so. This is applying the site template.

5) Then verify that staging build looks as you want.

6) Then click publish to send the generated HTML (with site template
applied) to the production server.

I just checked the server and saw that there were updates to ac.html
that were in SVN but not on the webserver. So I just did the above
steps, so the website should now have your latest.

-Rob

Looks like the CMS didn't push it out to the production server. I
tool care of that, and also renamed the HTML so we can compare your
version along side Kadal's:

http://www.openoffice.org/test/awardsVK/ac.html

and

http://www.openoffice.org/test/awardsVK/vk.html

I like that yours is pulling out the data info and giving that good
placement. But the images are a bit disorganized.

Re: Open Office Award Page

2013-01-10 Thread Alexandro Colorado
Not sure why the site is not displaying the changes on the page but I
also put it an update on JFiddler if anyone want to see the page in
all it's CSS glory. (sorry no absolute image links).
http://jsfiddle.net/Km7YC/2/

I have a CSS rule that might need change since I specify a standard
height, but I see some of the descriptions are quite large, I have
some reservations since some of the quotes seems to be unrelated to
OpenOffice itself.

Also thinking about maybe using JQuery-scrolldown behavior and have
kind of a folding event, so users can only see the header, and click
on them to read the quote dynamically. Look at the demo on the
reference to get a sense of the behavior.
http://api.jquery.com/slideToggle/

Well the images issue are somewhat solved already on the prototype you
showed. if you look at the source, they specify the width-height already.
example:

and so on.

You would only need to have something like

.support img {
float: left;
padding-right: 1em;
}

of course if you want to look adventurous there are some CSS to 'normalize'
the images by % and max-width. Here is an example
http://clagnut.com/sandbox/imagetest3/

I'll prototype something tonight.

What would you do with the images? That was the messy part of the
original http://www.openoffice.org/awards page. Images of different
size and mixed left and right placement. The images are the jewels in
the treasury. But the book page doesn't need to deal with images.

If you have time to put together a simple prototype I'd love to see
what this would look like.

I think we should remove the table, and apply the style used on the books
URL.

Something like this:

2012

Here is the page, with the site template applied:

http://www.openoffice.org/test/awardsVK/index.html

It is certainly better organized than what we had before.But I
think the first 3 rows should be outside of the table, as normal
and .

It looks like there was a character set conversion issue that killed
some apostrophe's in the text, but that will be easy to clean up.

I wonder if it would be worth putting the date in its own column?

What do others think?

You should raise a complaint with Amazon, or Google or Bing about
these. Pretending that Amazon doesn't exist will accomplish nothing.
It is not like we drive a significant portion of Amazon's traffic.
And remember, Amazon hosst genuine AOO downloads as well. They are
not the bad guys.

As I've explained on several previous posts, the ad networks have
trademark policies and if we can show that someone is abusing our
trademarks in their ads then we can have the network owner (Amazon,
Google, etc) remove the ads.

Can we remove the links to Amazon on this page? I have been browsing
them and found there are some sponsored links on those pages to dubious
download sites that we suspect to spread malware with OpenOffice.

If you send me a zip of the page (and rescaled images) I can copy them
into a test dir on the openoffice.org server. That way we can see how
it would look with the site template applied.

You saw the original awards page, yes? http://www.openoffice.org/awards/

The original images were of various sizes and aspect ratios.

Looking at the bookpage, this would be another style that would be
more consistant with the OO site:
http://www.openoffice.org/support/books.html

hi I think the page is too blue, and also would avoid using tables. I
would also suggest on usiing a JQuery plugin that display the caption
on the selection of items.

Something like the following:
$('.show_p').click(function () {
  $($('#r_'+$(this).attr('id'))).toggle('fast');
 });

And the HTML:
InfoWorld's Bossie (Best Of Open Source)
Awards - September 2012
We received two Bossie Awards in 2012, both
