 Andreas is helping to create a thank you banner to replace the ruler

 but I'm going to need Lucas' help (or another webhacker) to replace it

 Yep. Just send me the banner and I'll put it online.

 Makes sense.

 The ruler HTML code is generated from a python script. It should be
 relatively simple to alter the python script to fetch messages from po
 files or something. I'm pretty sure I won't have time to work on this
 any time soon. Volunteers are needed for this task.

Any URL for the code?

Lucas,

Is there a chance you can take another look at the ruler? For
library.gnome.org (specifically for the release notes) the ruler seems
to be fixed width and when you resize your browser it looks funny.

The 2.30 release notes are here:

 Well, the ruler is set on 960px as follow:

 #gnome-fog-ruler .fog-center {
  margin:0 auto;
  text-align:left;
  width:960px;
 }

 May be the following do the trick:

 # gnome-fog-ruler .fog-center {
   margin:0 auto;
   text-align:left;
   padding-left:10px;
   padding-right:10px;
 ; }

Yes, but the ruler would still look strange if it doesn't fill the
same width than the main library.g.o header. What I'm suggesting is to
place the ruler in the same way than www.gnome.org.

 In such case, is needed to change the css of the library.  The sidebar
 has been set as absolute with top: 60px.  It is not enough moving the

 I quick overview:  top: 230px

 and unset the margin right of libgo-ruler, now it looks like:

 Yeah, should be as simple as that. Just add after the 'header' div.

I couldn't get it to fill the whole width, as it conflicted with the
sidebar which is position: absolute; but here it is in place:

That page is broken for me now (Firefox 3.5.8 on Fedora 12).

I see nothing below the Home/Users/Admin... tabs.

IIUC, you have to place the ruler div inside the 'page' div just after

 I'll be finishing the release notes and sending them out for review this

You shouldn't do this manually -- library.g.o will do it for you.

Anyone with a git account can update the ruler data. Here's a quick guide:

1. Fetch gnomeweb-wml module from GNOME git
2. Go to the directory www.gnome.org/friends/ruler
3. Update the 'update-ruler' script with the latest data (should be obvious)
4. Run 'update-ruler  ruler.js'
5. Build website and make sure ruler looks ok
6. Commit and push the new ruler.js to git repo

 Subject: One step closer to a sys admin ...

 Last April we announced that we wanted to hire a system administrator to
 help with some of the day-to-day work necessary to keep thousands of GNOME
 contributors going. I'm really excited to announce that we are really close!
 The GNOME community raised over $20,000 last year from individual
 contributors! In addition, several companies like Canonical, Nokia and
 Google put in matching funds.

 In an effort to be more transparent - and to share our excitement - we've
 created a ruler to track our progress towards our goal of hiring a system
 administrator. (And future goals.) You will see at the top of gnome.org and
 Planet GNOME.

 You learn more about our plans for a system administrator on the job

 You can spread the word by adding a Friends of GNOME badge to your web

 Friends of GNOME (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1187037/friends-ruler.png)

 Design done by Vinicius!

 Nice work!

 So, what we need now is:

 1. Do we still want to keep the goal for sysadmin? Just checking.

 Yes, because we are about to declare victory and I think that would be good!

 Perhaps we could also preannounce another campaign at the same time.

Ok.

 2. Add a bit more text in Friends of GNOME front page about the goal.
 Maybe elaborate a bit more on the benefits of hiring a sysadmin?
 Volunteers?

 Maybe we could reuse the text from the original announcement mail? With some
 wordsmithing ...

  Keeping track of the routine day-to-day system administration tasks
  is neither glamorous nor a lot of fun, but it's essential to keeping
  the day-to-day work of thousands of GNOME contributors going. For
  this reason, the foundation is hoping to hire a part-time sysadmin to
  handle the coordination role on an ongoing basis. This is dependent
  on obtaining sufficient funding.

I'm using this exact text in FoG front page now with the only change
of replacing the This is dependent... with Your donations will help
us to achieve this goal!.

 3. Consolidate the current donations and sponsors and update the ruler
 accordingly. Stormy, could you send this info?

 The numbers you have are good through the end of January.

 $5K Google
 $5K Nokia
 $10K Canonical
 $19,578 2009
 $1,587 2010

Ok, updated.

 4. Publish the ruler with a nice announcement about the goal. Need
 volunteer to write the announcement to be sent to foundation-list and
 posted in Planet GNOME. Stormy? Paul? Someone else?

 I can do this. (Multiple people blogging would be good.)

Nice. Let me know when you have the announcement ready. I think we're
ready to release the ruler.

 I created a very simple script that will make it easy to update the
 ruler. Just need to update the values and re-generate the ruler.

 Let's get this done as soon as possible! :-)

Let's!

Do we have any ideas for our next campaign?

Paul Cutler put the following job description together, which seems
like it contains pretty good content:

That's not a bad starting point. Can we get Owen's input on the concern
he expresses at the end of that page? Perhaps we can orientate the
hiring/contract to quarterly goals or something like that instead of
routine tasks.

Just to give credit where it's due - Owen wrote the job description and
pointed out the link to me a few months ago.

would want to dismiss it.
