[MARMAM] marine mammal necropsy workshop

2020-05-09 Thread Thierry Jauniaux
With the consideration of the COVID situation, the annual marine mammal
necropsy workshop will be organized next September or October. Nevertheless,
the workshop is now in 2 periods: a one-day (4x2 hours) webinar (Marine mammal
necropsy webinar) organized in July, that should be considered as pre-requisite
for the 14th annual workshop.

Such organization in 2 periods should be also for the future edition of the
workshop. Then in:

1. July: on-line “Marine mammal necropsy webinar”:

- 2 hours of dissection and samplings protocol, including tele-necropsy/on-line
procedure concept

- 2 hours of on-line necropsy demonstration

- 2 hours of inner ear extraction

- 2 hours of on-line inner ear demonstration

After the webinar, records of the procedures and demonstration will be
available on the workshop website but only for the participants

2. Sept. or October: “14th annual marine mammal necropsy workshop” (3 days),
University of Liege, Liege, Belgium

Details for the organization will be available soon

[MARMAM] 2014 ECS conference

2013-09-24 Thread Thierry Jauniaux
The next European Cetacean Society
(http://www.europeancetaceansociety.eu/home.php) conference will take place at
the University of Liège (Aquarium-Museum of Liège), organised jointly by the
Laboratory of Oceanology and the Department of Veterinary Pathology, from
Saturday the 5th of April to Wednesday the 9th of April 2014. Different Belgian
universities and institutions will be also associated to this event.

The University of Liege hosted the ECS conference in 2002, and the last four
ECS conferences took place in Stralsund (Germany, 2010), Cadiz (Spain, 2011),
Galway (Ireland, 2012) and Setubal (Portugal, 2013) and attracted both
scientists and media attention.

The theme for 2014 shall be: «Marine mammals as sentinels of a changing
environment» in order to present the consequences of Global Change on these
species as well as the principal dangers that threaten their future. Marine
mammals, most of which are threatened by human activities (e.g. pollution,
fishing), occupy an important position in our marine ecosystems and deserve all
our attention.
