I've asked Miguel and Pavel several times to lock the bugtracker and to add a hint on the project page that the development has moved to www.midnight- commander.org but nothing happened. The *reason* this patch was introduced is still valid. See the original Mandriva bug: http://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=44201 the problem is that the ctrl-\ combination is unavailable on some keyboard layouts. This problem is still a valid one. It would be better to re-open the bug and pick some other available combination, rather than just not address the problem. Symlinks to files. I don't think I had any problems with
directories, now you come to mention it.
I did have sufficient permissions for the files: everything was

This looks to be because the Fish VFS runs ls with -L (dereference
symlinks) on the remote side and therefore only receives information
on the dereferenced files.
This includes the length of the file so MC stalls waiting for data
