MCN Cal SIG Meeting at MOCA on August 26, 2005

9:00 Meet at MOCA for cookies and coffee

9:30 Welcome and Introductions 

 Marla Misunas (MCN Vice President and President-Elect) will talk about MCN, describe the conference in Boston and next year's conference in Pasadena. She will also discuss the new website. 

 Introductions - all attendees 


10:00-11:30 How to Build and Manage a Digital Library 

The Getty Digital Library staff will discuss their work to create integrated access to their diverse resources (library, archives and special collections, and museum) and building collections of digital surrogates. Issues of digital asset management (including creating a central DAM system for an institution with diverse units and departments) and preservation will also be addressed.

Karim Boughida - Senior Information Systems Architect, Getty Research Institute

Sally Hubbard - Digital Projects Manager, Getty Research Institute

11:30-1:00 No-host lunch across the street at McCormick and Schmick

1:00-1:15 Educator-guided tour of MOCAs Basquiat and Blake Byrne exhibitions 

2:30-4:00 Technology Projects at MOCA

Presenters:

Gary Castro - WAN/Exchange Administrator, MOCA

MOCA staff will show/discuss several projects including:

 Wide Area Network and frame relay setup which connects 5 locations: Bunker Hill (2 Sites), Little Tokyo (Geffen), West Hollywood (PDC), and a retail store in Santa Monica. 

 Art On Demand Kiosk in the galleries (Basquiat) where visitors can browse artwork via touchscreen and order a print on the spot. The system ishooked up via a firewall VPN to both London and Boston where the orders are processed and sent out within 24 hours. The customer receives the print within 5 days. 

 Getty Electronic Cataloguing Initiative and plans for digital library 

 MOCA website - current and future direction.
