Is anyone out there using Creative Commons licenses for museum or archive images? If so, which version(s) of the licenses are you using? And are you finding it to be useful? Many thanks for anything you might be willing to share on this subject. [MCN-L] RFID Technology vs UPC Scanner
Hello, If you have experience using RFID technology or UPC scanners in exhibits or classroom activities, I could certainly use your help. I'm working up a proposal for a classroom activity on solid waste that would link either system to a database. Kids will be given a bag of garbage items and then work with a database to sort the items into the appropriate disposal categories: recycle, compost, e-waste/ universal hazardous waste, and landfill. I think using either system would greatly simplify the activity as kids would just have to simply scan or, in the case of the RFID chips, place the items in the appropriate bin to get feedback from the database. I'm currently leaning toward using a UPC scanner system because I believe it would be easier for the center's staff to periodically update the activity with new items. What are the benefits or tradeoffs to each system? How technically challenging is it to program RFID chips? How have these systems been used in exhibits or classroom activities? Any information you have would be really helpful. Thank you, Ned Zimmerman-Bence

[MCN-L] Museums on Facebook? Examples?
Hi there, Wondering if there any museums with a Facebook profile/group? Anyone doing anything interesting on Facebook? Beth Kanter
[MCN-L] Museums on Facebook? Examples?
Hi Beth, I started a Museums on FaceBook group a few months ago and much to my surprise there were probably 15 or 20 museums the group. The problem with FaceBook is that they don't allow organizational memberships. FaceBook found Museums on FaceBook and deleted the group and accounts in it that were museums/organizations. I talked with FaceBook and they do not seem very interested in changing the policy. They only want individual (faces) as members. We had a lot of interest from people on FaceBook and many signed-up as friends. So it raises a point that it could be possible to create a Museum Group with individuals representing a museum rather than organizations as members. I hope this helps, Kurt Stuchell stuchel at fas.harvard.edu http://MuseumPods.com Quoting Beth Kanter beth at bethkanter.org: Hi there, Wondering if there any museums with a Facebook profile/group? Howdy! No museums with a profile. Lots of museums with groups, and there are a bunch of galleries (and a disproportionate number of Canadian galleries) with profiles and groups Some of them: Zeke's Gallery (Canadian) http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=503994512 xyz gallery http://vt.facebook.com/profile.php?id=505367585 Flux Gallery (Canadian) http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=506483934 Gallery Connexion (Canadian) http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=672653782 Gallery FiftyOne http://mcla.facebook.com/profile.php?id=166401416 Welch Art Gallery http://gsu.facebook.com/profile.php?id=22624787 Sac Gallery http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=508337034 Forest City Gallery (Canadian) http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=540731442 Play Gallery http://umichigan.facebook.com/profile.php?id=575640136 No Pandas Gallery (Canadian) http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=613216753 Art House Gallery http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=614686060 Glenhyrst Art Gallery (Canadian) http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=625701105 AniOman Art Gallery http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=640431399 Keenag Gallery http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=645295322 Kolok Gallery http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=650975506 Anilee Fine Art Gallery http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=652865683 Blackwood Gallery (Canadian) http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=671721097 Jeffrey Boone Gallery (Canadian) http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=680461899 Dreamspace Gallery http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=680931315 MacKenzie Art Gallery (Canadian) http://uregina.facebook.com/profile.php?id=694791466 Down-Home Gallery http://ufl.facebook.com/profile.php?id=733660467 Johnsonese Gallery http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=806400346 La Petite Mort Gallery (Canadian) http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=889025437 Saatchi Gallery London http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=500447374 Gallery OneTen http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=680916414 Gallery Panama http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=868945060 Saatchi Gallery STUART http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=510992415 Gallery Thirteenthirteen (Canadian) http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=602865729 Gallery TPW (Canadian) http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=521806560 -- Zeke Zeke's Gallery zekesgallery.blogspot.com is dark due to a court injunction http://www.archive.org/details/zekesgallery still works
