[MCN-L] ARTstor Collaboration with Flemish Museums and Institutions

2012-04-02 Thread Christine Kuan
Dear MCN Friends and Colleagues,

We are delighted to announce that ARTstor has reached an agreement with Lukas -
Art in Flanders to share approximately 5,000 images, which will feature works
of art from more than 30 important Flemish museums and cultural institutions,
including: Sint Baafskatedraal Gent (Saint Bavo Cathedral of Ghent), MSK Gent
(The Museum of Fine Arts in Gent), KMSK Antwerpen (The Royal Museum of Fine
Arts, Antwerp), Musea Brugge (Bruges Museums), Museum voor Hedendaagse Kunst
Antwerpen (Museum of Contemporary Art of Antwerp), and others (see
www.artstor.org/collections).

The Lukas collection in the Digital Library will contain works from a variety
of periods ranging from the 8th century to the 20th century and media including
paintings, sculptures, drawings, and illustrations. Major artists will include
Hans Memling, Jan Provoost, Hieronymus Bosch, Peter Paul Rubens, Frans Hals,
and James Ensor. The collection also includes new photography of The Mystic
Lamb (the Ghent Altarpiece) of 1432 by Hubert and Jan van Eyck, painted for the
St. Bavo Cathedral of Ghent. Additionally, all of the metadata records in the
Digital Library will be made available in English, French, and Dutch. Lukas
(http://www.lukasweb.be/), an online image bank, provides an archival
repository and digital infrastructure for many Flemish museums and cultural
heritage institutions and manages digital imagery of the finest works of
Flanders's artistic heritage.

We hope to launch the Lukas collection in fall 2012. To receive collections and
features updates, sign up for ARTstor News on our Blog at

Sincerely,
Christine Kuan

[MCN-L] Query regarding use of librarians in cataloging fine art collection objects

2012-04-02 Thread Gabriela Zoller
Dear colleagues:

We at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery are interested in learning how many
art museums are using librarians to catalog fine art collection objects.

If you are a librarian that catalogs collection objects, would you mind
sharing with me (at gzoller at albrightknox.org) the following:

-your name and/or title

-if you hold an MLS/MLIS, or are a librarian by experience

-where you fit in to your institution's organizational schema

This email has been posted to the MIMSY UK user group, MCN and TMS
listservs, so please forgive any duplication.

Many thanks!

Sincerely,
Gabriela Zoller
