MD: MP3s, Xitel Card Minidisc Recording
I have been using the new sound card from Xitel to record digitally files I have stored on my PC. When I load WinAmp and then start the recording process, I get a wonderful recording, BUT I do not get any track demarcations. Anyone else have this experience or have ideas about what I might do to output MP3s to the minidisc with track markings. Thanks in advance. MD: Virgin MDs at 9.99ukp for ten
Anyone tried them? First one in my player seems ok. As the cellophane covering the discs is bright yellow I was pleasantly surprised to find that the disc housing is made of pale blue see through plastic. One side of the cover is white, with clear see through plastic on the other. Other than Richer Sounds What HiFi deals these are the cheapest discs I've found. MD: fair use (was copy-proof CDs)
Simon Mackay wrote, | What has happened to permitting "fair use" of copyright materials? As Jeffrey Salzberg has explained, it's still in the law, but "fair use" never meant "anything the user thinks is fair." It specifically is for quoting excerpts from published works for purposes such as research, reporting, education, or criticism (all of which, it might be noted, provide publicity for the work). It does not apply to copying whole works nor to personal uses. (Also, AFAIK it doesn't apply to copying from unpublished works either, but that doesn't apply here anyway.) - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
MD: Sony MDX-C670RDS
Has anybody got a Sony MDX-C670RDS (fairly old now, car MD player) or access to a manual for one of these? Mine has seems to be getting a lot of disc's stuck lately and I'm looking for any information on how I can force it to reset itself and spit the disc out. Sometimes it'll just chuck it out on its own a few minutes later, other times it can be days later, and a few times I've had to open it up and remove the disc manually. On another note, I picked up a 10 pack of the virgin branded MD's they are doing for £9.99 in the UK, last week. I've only used a couple of them, but they seem fine so far. - Chris Taylor Discovery Internet - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
MD: MD Jogging Update
Hi all, I would like to report a successful jogging last night, with no skips on the MZ-R55! I just held the unit in my hand, as suggested by Dan Frakes. My only concern is the effect of sweat droplets on the unit. I noticed that the optical input jack does not have a protection cap, as in my home electronic equipment (DVD/LD player). I wonder if this matters? In fact, none of the jacks have protection from dust or moisture. I guess Sony thinks that the players are to be used in safe conditions (like inside a building). Too bad there is not a SPORTS model yet. I guess I will just have to be careful, or maybe buy a cheap model for jogging (like the $99 special at Best Buy). Today I am going to try the sweat band approach recommended by Tom Fallows. On a positive note, my neighbor asked me what I had in my hand, and he listened to the music and was fairly impressed. I had a hard time getting the unit back from him to start my run! So, I guess this is a good way to show off and be a minidisc evangelist! - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: MD: Copy-Proof CDs (Long)
Hi everyone What has happened to permitting "fair use" of copyright materials? Have governments and rights-holders, especially publishers, lost the sight of the spirit of the DAT Pact and, the Betamax decision and other copyright decisions to allow home recording for purposes such as archiving, transfer to another media for use in equipment capable of playing that media; recording broadcasts for use at a later time or in a different location; and making custom-built recordings of songs. Often it is the publisher who is obsessed about copyright more than the artist. Artists who go for "burden-free" distribution such as MP3 have had a fair bit of grief from their publishers because the publisher loses control of the work. Publishers who object to technologies like digital radio, Internet radio and Internet-based music distribution; utilise technical methods to prevent recordings from being copied at all and take action against retailers importing music themselvss are really trying to control how each copy of music is distributed. Some publishers even want to take action against the sale of second-hand music so they still have control over each copy of music. Is there a better pair of headphones (other than earbuds) that can hold up to sweaty activity? Thanks, Greg VP This isn't really a help, but I do know that there seems to be quite a difference between brands which supposedly have the same amount of anti skip memory. When I first got a portable it was an Aiwa AM-F5. 10 seconds of anti skip memory and it would skip just walking down the street or with the unit sitting in the car. I took it back and swapped it for another and it was no better. Took it back again and swapped it for a Sharp 702 with the same amount of memory and haven't experienced a single problem with skipping. I've never jogged with it mind - far too energetic :-). I doubt the 702 would perform so well in the circumstances you describe, but it does suggest that not all anti skip memories perform equally well even though the memory size might suggest they should. MD: Sony MDX-C8970
I was just wondering if anyone could tell me anything about the Sony ES in dash mini-disc receiver, model number MDX-C8970, that I have seen only on the Crutchfield web site. I am interested in buying one, but I would prefer not to buy it from Crutchfield and I cannot find this model any where else on the internet beside the Crutchfield web site -- not even on Sony's site! Did you know that DVD authors can actually stop you from fast-forwarding or reversing through a DVD? This is protection taken to extremes. Let me point out that this is mainly used to skip the user from fast-forwarding the intro that explains that the DVD is copyrighted material and should only be used at home. It's very anoying... RE: MD: MP3s, Xitel Card Minidisc Recording
I manually insert empty, 3-second WAV files between each song. It's a pain, but it works. It would be nice if Winamp could do it automatically. Does anybody have another solution to this? On a related note, I've noticed that when I copy directly from CD to MD (digitally), the track demarcations are there, even if there's no space between the tracks on the CD, which makes me think that there's a signal that the CD player passes to the MD to tell it to put a track mark at that spot. Is this something that a computer can reproduce in a WAV file?
