As Jeffrey Salzberg has explained, it's still in the law, but "fair use"
never meant "anything the user thinks is fair."

It specifically is for quoting excerpts from published works for purposes
such as research, reporting, education, or criticism (all of which, it might
be noted, provide publicity for the work).  It does not apply to copying
whole works nor to personal uses.  (Also, AFAIK it doesn't apply to copying
from unpublished works either, but that doesn't apply here anyway.)
