"DataPlay has a solution for music lovers who want to take entire
 albums with them:
technology that can store up to 10 hours of MP3s on portable
 devices.

At Internet World on Wednesday, the Boulder, Colorado company
 unveiled a
matchbook-sized optical drive that can store 500MB and will
 cost consumers less than
$10. The storage technology could be used in portable music
 players, e-book readers,
handheld computers, wireless phones, and digital cameras as
 early as next spring, when
 shipping begins. "

Re: MD: Subject: Sony has seen the light!

2000-04-08 Thread Daryl O.

Today, there is the JE330 and the one with the CD/MD combo deck, MZ-R70,
Sharp MD-MT15, a couple play-only portables, and a few blanks. [...] It
looks much less exciting for MD at Best Buy now, and I find it a little
disappointing.(Shawn Lin)

I just set that planogram last week, and I had to flex in two new MD
portables that weren't even on the planogram! We have more MD portables now
than we've ever had. In addition to the MZ-R70 and the MD-MT15, we also
have the MZ-R55 with the USB interface, the MZ-R37, the MZ-E60, (one other
Sony playback model whose model number I cannot remember), and the
Audiophase MDP-1. At least portable-wise, it's never been more exciting at
Best Buy!

Re: MD: MZR90 Batt Life

2000-04-08 Thread Ivica Petrovic

it's the same as with the mobile phones, is there anyone who believes in
300+ hours standby in it? maybe if you're not touching it at all. In that
case, specs for MZR 55 are honest, you should take out of it at least 4
hours playback and about 3 hours of recording. Those numbers for the other
models are a little bit overblown, and I suppose it's not the Sony's
specialty?

 Sure you can get
Memorex or Hi Space for under $2.00. But that's possibly
 more then they are worth.

why are you slagging off HiSpace ? I've got hundreds of 'em, and they work
just fine. I have to admit that I've never heard any defense of Memorex, and
plenty of criticism, but I've never seen one to try for myself.

This reminds of my MD shopping experiences in March 1995. A Circuit City
salesperson advised me not to waste my money. MD was a dead format and CC had
quit stocking them. Needless to say CC has not sold me any of the six MD
units I own.

They told me a similar story when I was looking to buy my Sony DVD player in
late '97.
I guess they enjoy not doing busines with me.

Incredible (very literally). MD is a digital storage medium. As long as
ones stay ones and zeroes stay zeroes, it doesn't matter (and the disc
doesn't know) whether they're part of the representation of a bass sound,
a high frequency, or a middle frequency.

What you said might be true of a recorder's ADC, or of a recorder or
player's DAC, but it cannot apply to a digital storage medium.

MD: best minidisc recorder?

2000-04-08 Thread susan

I want to get a minidisc recorder to take to my music festivals where I
record in an informal jam session context. These sessions are usually in the
woods at night, in the dark, sometimes in the rain under a tarp--I cannot
protect a studio type machine. I need something that will give me great
recordings with an integral mike--i tend to lose the others and often I
record while I am playing with folks as well. Also is it possible to use an
attachment to play these on a cassette deck in a car like you can with the
portable cd players? as u can see i am new to this...bear with me, I'd love
advice and suggestions on what to get and what price range is
reasonable--just saw an old sharp model on mobshop for about $130 but don't
know if it is any good
thanks

MD: The truth about Hi Space and Memorex...

2000-04-08 Thread Kheops GlassArt

Listen, I don't know for the past years but :

I'm now a Hi Space distributor... So I know that Hi Space are not the same
as Memorex...

Memorex have an European division, but it's not made by MPO company... It's
a different companies...

It's the same that if you said that TDK and Sony was the same cause they're
from Japan !!! Sony and Aiwa are the same company but not memorex and Hi
Space...

Ok, just to go a bit further : take a Memorex minidisc and take in the other
hand a Hi Space minidisc... The memorex minidisc is really cheap, the
plastic cover very weak. Hi Space minidisc are nearly the same as Sony or
TDK... Great plastic, great flip case, high quality... I used Hi Space and
Memorex and I am able to see a big difference in the sound... Yes, Memorex
minidisc are really poor on bass and high frequency...

I sell hi space minidisc cause the are really good and less expensive thant
sony... Sony are good but you pay too much... We always pay for the name...

I hope you will understand that Memorex and Hi Space are not the same
thing...

Thank's

Jack.

Hi Jack.

With all do respect, I not recall you mentioning that you are a H S
distributor. No offence but how can you be impartial? Your opinion would carry
much more weight if you had no connection to H S.

Lets face it you cut a deal with Mr. "French" to distribute his discs. We can't
expect you to say that they are crap. All I can do is report on the statements
of others on the list. H S has not gotten many favorable reviews.

Unless they started using different materials, the shells that they used to come
in were made of flimsy material.

Regards,
LAS

How old were the Memorex that you tried?? Because I know that they used to be
H S! If they were from a few years ago, how could the Memorex be bad but the H
S be good?? They were the same discs.
