RE: MD: Whats Up With Circuit City?

2000-04-07 Thread Craig Goligowski (E-mail 2)

As a side note, The Best Buy by me said "We sent back all of our
pre-recorded MD's and are selling off all of the other MD stock, Cause were
not going to carry them any more."

Hey did you guys notice the price increase on Memorex colored minidiscs 20
pack at Circuit City? Whats up with that? I thought prices normally come
down, rather than go up :( I bought a 20 pack before for $29.99 at Circuit
City, and they were on sale for $28.49 a couple weeks ago. I go back to the
store and they have been repriced at $34.99! (It still beats Best Buys
price of $39.99 for these) Any thoughts? Maybe they realized these were a
hot item and decided to make some extra cash. Gr!

Yeah, I wonder. It has a no-longer-very-secret menu that can bypass
Macrovision, sort of an SCMS equivalent of the video world.

(Though they're available at $179 retail sometimes they sold for $300 on
eBay :) :(

I bought one and for a cheep unit it is great. ( Wounder how lon it will
be
before they are forced to take it off the market because of mp3s or
getting
 by copy protections.)

Here is a FAQ on the unit

I am an avid fan of the ZDTV an they have been pushing a new DVD player
that
offers some very interesting features. So while kicking around my
Circuit
City Store here in Phx, AZ I noticed that they had the Apex DVD player on
sale for $179. I thought I would give it a try, and man what a deal!
Forget the DVD portion, here is what is cool, NO SCMS! Yes, you heard me
correctly. It plays CDR's RW's and will decode MP3's. It also alows you
to
play DVD's from any region code and has component video out to boot! It
is
not a quality piece, but it has some very cool features. Just wanted to
let
 you know.

RE: MD: labels

I use the removeable 3.5 disk labels sold at most office supply stores. I
use a template in MS publisher spliting the lable in half.

Hopefully this will be a simple question for someone to answer out =
there. I personally use freehand to make my labels with, yeah i know =
it's overkill but i own the software and it works out wonderfully. =
anyway i have only made the labels for the cases so far and want to =
start making labels for the md's themselves, the question i have is i =
often record mixes then a month or two down the line erase the md and =
record another mix over it, i was wondering if anyone has found a way to =
get the labels off the md, i dont wanna have 5 labels on top of each =
other or wreck a md by using a razor blade or something like that on it. =
If anyone has any neat tricks they wanna share with the rest of us =
please do so it would be appreciated very much.

I checkded the site

and found it, but no way to order it on line. I called the houston stores
and they said the unit is over 2 years old and they would have no way of
getting one to sell. So another dead end. (

After the Sanyo thing (you all remember it), I thought I'll never see an
In-Dash unit for less than 200$. I followed a link from the MDCP news to
tweeter.com and they seem to have one MDXC150 (I don't know anything about
this model) going for 79.99$. Also they sell the MDXC7900 for 229.99$ which
I think is nice.

Just wanted you guys to know.

Bentz- wish I had an In-Dash (preferably that awesome JVC unit).

RE: MD: Sanyo MDR-4 car stereo

1999-12-22 Thread Craig Goligowski

I went to our other super wal-mart tonight and they had the MDR4 on display,
marked at 269.97 regular marked down to 135.00. Talked to an employee and he
said he sold the last for 65.00 earlier that day. He said it was clearanced
so they would not be getting any new ones in. :( I asked if they would sell
the display and he said no they have a separate company that does the
display and the store did not own the unit to be able to sell it. I'm
depressed now. :(

I went to Super Wal-Mart today and didn't find it either.
In fact, I found no Sanyo anything in car audio.
You know what they say about if it's too good to be true...

want to add it to the list of available models. (I can EMAIL specs to
you if you want.) These units are CHEAP. They only cost like $65.00 at
Wal-Mart. YES, Wal-Mart and I'm told by a friend that they're going to
reduce the price again... They'd make a great entry-level unit for those
wanting to add MD to their cars...

Thanks for the note, this sounds fascinating. Any chance you can send
in a picture? I'm forwarding your note to the MD mailing list in case
others are familiar with this machine.

Egads, $65? That's cheap for ANYTHING MD! I've seen car tape players
cheaper than that. Could there have been an error in that it's really
$165? And at Wal-Mart too???
Proof that MD is going mainstream? :)

Anyway, I found a picture of it at:
http://www.sanyo.co.jp/AV/CEmedia_e/products/car/MDR-4/MDR4.html

Doesn't look as nice as the Sony's, but it sure as heck looks a lot more
expensive than $65.
