Re: MD: Edd's extra tracks

2000-08-15 Thread Edd Farmer

Hmmm, so *this* is what happens when I go on holiday for a fortnight... 400+
messages!!!

Doh!

Oh well. Anyway, the same thing happened with a Fun Lovin' Criminals CD
(100% Columbian if you must know) - first time I recorded it, it was fine.
2nd time and I ended up with 30+ tracks from a 16 track CD...

Any suggestions? Thankz!

The Rodent wrote about all the extra track divisions Edd is getting,

 | There are a few other possibilities, but those are what I'd check first.

Another one is that the source CD's tracks are subdivided with intra-track
indices. The practice is rare, but the CD standard does support it, and I
faintly remember reading ages and ages ago on either this list or its
prede-
cessor that in an S/PDIF transfer an MD recorder will start a new track at
 each intra-track index mark.

What I'd really check first is trying to copy the CD to MD with a
different
MD recorder, preferably with a different CD player as well. If extra
track
marks show up in the same places, it's the CD.

 Hello all!

I was recording today the Limp Bizkit album to my MZ-R55, via the optical
cable provided. It was done onto some gold-coloured Sony discs.

Now, it's a 16 track album - so why the hell have I ended up with over 70
tracks?! I've only had the unit for 10months. Surely it can't be
knackered
 already?

 Adios!

That is why they sell the belts that you can put a MD in and wear it
 around your waist.

Where can you get these things!!?? I've looked all over the place for
them.

PS - I'm in the UK

Re: MD: SB-Live Digi?

2000-03-08 Thread Edd Farmer

A possible stroke of light though, I seem to recall somwhere back
a post about using the SB Live to get a digital output. Was that
 true?

From what I've seen on their web-site, yeah, but I suggest that you (and
possibly a few others here) check out this web-page here.  Go to;
http://www.americas.creative.com/sound/live/ to find out a bit more info.
It certainly suggests that you get a digital I/O port with it though.

MD: Quality earphones

2000-02-21 Thread Edd Farmer

Hello all,

At the weekend, I bought myself some new headphones to replace the Sony's
that I came with the box (the wire length is a joke), so I bought myself
some of the new 'Street Style' (hereby known as SS) headphones - and I'm now
seriously regretting it.

Even the boxed earphones were better! The SS ones are all bass and no
treble. Drums play fine, but the guitars don't have any 'zing' to them (I
know what I'm talking about)

Can anyone recommend any good earphones? And whilst I'm on the subject, a
good microphone? Oi will be mostly be listnin' to Metallica, Eels, Enigma
and Fun Lovin Criminals.

MD: Eels, lovely Eels...

2000-02-19 Thread Edd Farmer

Within the next month, I'm going to be seeing the greatest band *ever*
(ummm...), the Eels in London. Being a natural Minidisc type of guy I going
to want to record the whole thing. I have a Sony MZ-R55 but no microphone.
What I'm asking is...

1 - Can anyone recommend a good, compact microphone?

2 - I'm considering getting the SONY ECM-MS907 mic. - has anyone had any
experiance with this and could possibly offer some tips?

3 - Is there anything that I should be wary of when gig recording with the
MZ-R55?

Thankz in advance,
Cheers!

Re: MD: Mics

2000-01-29 Thread Edd Farmer

Sure, the mike doesn't care. Just make a battery box, plug them mike into
a
jack on one end, put a cord and plug on the other end and plug it into the
line input. The mike doesn't care where the power comes from. This way
youcan use it with or with out the battery box and use the plug in power.

Hang on. So if you use the battery-box with the mic. for outdoor
recordings, does this mean that the mic. uses the box's power instead of the
MD's power?

Re: MD: Time to upgrade

2000-01-19 Thread Edd Farmer

What is it you feel you need that the R55 doesn't have?

Well, for starters, I don't want to have to keep on recharging the batteries
every so often. For instance, the single internal battery in the Sharp
model runs for nearly the same time as the Sony with BOTH external AA's, and
the internal one as well.

That is my main complaint. The other reasons... well, they're kind of
cosmetic - changing recording level and other types of these sort of things.
And I'm considering upgrading, as I'm going to university in Sept. And now
that they've abolished grants, I'm going to have to live off the savings
that I'm accumulating during my gap-year (now) and bank loans. So while
I've got a little bit of cash to spend, I might as well get the best model
that I can. Oh, and how good would you say the Sharp is for recording
lectures and stuff like that? Should I consider the (possibly slightly
sheaper) Aiwa AM-F70? Cheers!

MD: Japan Direct

2000-01-18 Thread Edd Farmer

Has anyone from the UK used Japan Direct (www.japan-direct.com) service
before?

Did they accept normal bank cheques?

Did you have to pay an import tax, and how much was it?

And is there anything else that I should know about before I commit huge
expenses?

Cheers!

Hi -

Does anyone know what ATRAC version the AIWA CSD-MD50 mini-bookshelf system
uses? By the way, JR Music has it for $199.99. CD, cassette, MD - a nice
sounding unit for the money, in my opinion. Thanks, Jerry

Hello people,

After I eventually subscibed to this list I've now got a few questions =

1.) For us English people on this list, does anyone know where I can get =
a car adapter for long journeys - I'm going to France this year and I =
have no desire to try and recharge batteries while on the move.

2.) How can you extend the battery life of the Sony MZ-R55? Please make =
it easy, I don't trust myself with a soldering iron...
