I f*cking had the R50 before, and I was soo very f*cknig pleased with it, but it got stolen, did I say sony was crap? sorry but you got me all pissed off. all I meant was, the new Aiwa is far far more superior than my R55, got it? and in some places even costs less, too bad I knew about it late... Just because something is 1 month old and has experienced just one problem, you immediately write it off and wish for another brand and model as a result. I've only got one question to ask: Why the hell do manufacturers give out warranties for? Because sh_t happens! doh If it happened to an Aiwa unit, would you wish you had the Sharp instead? no You've got a warranty for a good reason, I suggest you use it and then draw your conclusions. Personally, I think it may not have liked that one disc. I attempted with another disc too. Who knows? You may need to see if it repeats itself again so that way you can be certain it's a recurring fault and not something that would lead the serviceman to believe that your unit is fine. I'll wait for that. Adios, LarZ - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Wallace Choi wrote: SONY KICKS IT!! so suck it!!! haha anyways... would you mind explaining how the Aiwa unit is far superior than the Sony MZ-R55? i have the MZ-R55 and i have no problems with it Wallace I'm not talking about problems. just look at its qualities: http://www.aiwa.co.jp/english/exhibi/new_p99/am-hx50e.html costs about the same, battery lasts way way longer, it's smaller, (a lot) lighter. why pay for a sony if you can get a better aiwa? actually I've never seen in, or heard it play, so who knows, it might be awful ;) but I was told it's an excellent unit. cheers. - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

MD: Who wants to exchange headphones? (OT)
Hi, I got two pairs of the headphones which I got with my Sony MZ-R50 and the MZ-R55, both brand new, I never used them. I'd like to exchange them for a pair of Earbuds, preferably Sony MDR-E821LP which are about the same pricetag.. === = NB: Over 50% of this message is QUOTED, please = = be more selective when quoting text = === A common-sense onterpretation of the law would allow for one of the reasons why people make recordings of CDs - to make a copy in case of accidental loss or (most commonly) theft of your CD. It's too easy to lend out your favourite CD and then find that it has disappeared. For example the person has been moving house or going through a divorce and the CD could get lost in the move. Or you BYO music to a party and give the music a spin. Suddenly some intoxicated person gets their paws on the music system and switches discs and while they do so they swipe your favourite disc. The most common way for me to lose a CD is to give it to some girl (she asked for it, of course) and never see it again afterwards, it happened to me far too many times ;) - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Simon Mackay wrote: Hi everyone! Hi Simon. I have a Creative 8x CD-ROM which has terminals on the back for some sort of digital out. If I wired those across an RCA socket, would that provide the kind of SP-DIF digital signal expected by a consumer-grade digital recorder or outboard DAC with coaxial sockets. On the other hand, would I need to make an "interface circuit" in order to couple the CD-ROM to a consumer-grade SP-DIF device. you need this very simple circuit: http://www.stack.nl/~leon/spdif/index.html Sometimes the CD-ROM has been known to stall, and sometimes cause the computer to hang, in the midst of a playback session. How can I prevent this from occurring during a playback session? Why does it stall? a very scratched disc? causes the computer to hang? try a better OS...I'd suggest Linux or any of the BSD's for Intel. I couldn't find a suitable plug so I soldered a length of coax cable directly to them and terminated the other end with an RCA plug. It plugs directly into the coaxial input on my JA3-ES and works great - track marks are also captured OK. This does not work with all CD Rom drives - there have been reports of the start of tracks not being recorded and track marks missing etc. If you only have an optical input you will need to build a small toslink convertor - details are on the MD web page. I gave the URL for the toslink converter circuit, which is needed only if you want to connect your CD-ROM drive to an optical input or some device, if one has a Coax input in his/her device, such a circuit is not needed, a simple coax or shielded cable would do the trick. Sorry, I was looking at that: SONY MZR-55 (World Model) $365.00 Which means what? it comes with a special power supply suitable for every country? The bare SONY MZR-55 $289.00 price they have there is OK. btw, my Dad was in Hong Kong recently he saw the MZ-R55 for approx $230 US. I want to do digital recording between my computer and a digital recording device so my plan was to buy a Sound Blaster Live and a mini-disc recorder. The SB Live has RCA SPDIF in's and out's, however I can't seem to find a mini-disc recorder that has RCA SPDIF. The only one's I find are TosLink or digital coaxial. So what I was wondering is if an adapter exists that will go from digital coaxial to RCA SPDIF? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Skipp This will do the trick: http://www.stack.nl/~leon/spdif/index.html but I forgot the URL which points to the pinouts of the SBLive RCA connector, all you have to do is find it yourself. also have a look at: http://www.hut.fi/Misc/Electronics/docs/audio/spdif.html good luck. - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
MD: Real differences between MZ-R55 JE/HK and US models.
Hi guys, I've been looking at the PDF service manual of the MZ-R55 taken from: http://www.minidisc.org/mz-r55.pdf and found a few differences in the part list of each model of the R55. 1. Why some of the metal conductors are replaced with the same conductors + ferrite beads? (my guess would be FCC compliance). 2. resistor marked: R523 in the US model is, 470 Ohms, while the same resistor in the HK model is, 0 Ohms, what difference does it make? (some extra feature in one of the models, probably the HK one?) 3. the main PCB's are different as well, but I didn't have enough patience to look at that, my PDF viewer scrolls so terribly slow. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: MD: portable MD recorder w/ coaxial digital input?
Magnus Strandh wrote: Hi folks, I'm new to the list so I apoligize if my question is old for you: I am looking for a portable MD recorder to replace my stolen Walkman. Since I will mainly record my MDs from my home CD player (Arcam Alpha One), which has NO optical digital output (only coaxial), I wonder if there are any decent portables out there with coaxial digital input for good and easy recording? AFAIK, there are no portable MD's which have digital coax out/in, but it will be pretty simple to add/modify your current CD player and add digital optic output using the circuit at this site: http://www.stack.nl/~leon/spdif/ I will not, at this stage, consider to upgrade my CD player to one with optical out. Am I stuck to analog recordings (eg digital-to-analog-to-digital)? Looking forward to your answers, thank you! /Magnus Cheers. - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Yes I know all the advantages, but he doesn't need a deck just for listening to MD's at home or playing them at a party, etc. sounds to me like he just has extra cash and doesn't have anything to do with it ;) he should think about investing it in a retirement plan rather than on MD decks... MD: Differences between blank minidiscs...
Hi guys and gals, I bet it's not a simple topic to answer, but I wonder what are the real differences between blank minidisc brands such as sony, basf, tdk, others... sound quality? reliability?, etc.. Is it worth buying Sony instead of TDK for example? Thank you. - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
