Your DVD-Video deck is less equal than most of the others. As I said,
DVD-Video decks should be able to read CD-RW media. If yours does not then
the fault is your deck, not the media, and there really isn't much you can
 do about it.

I said CD-RW.

The problem with CD-R in DVD-Video decks is that the media is invisible to
the read lasers used in DVD-Video playback mechanisms. DVD-Video decks
that can read CD-R media have a second laser mechanism just for this purpose.

CD-RW requires more power than CD-R to read. Many portable CD players
cannot read CD-RW. Same goes for some very old, first generation CD-ROM
drives, and apparantly a small number of DVD-Video decks. Again, as I
said, the fault is the deck, not the media.

Agreed.
Ive also seen this problem b4 on not so old CDROM drives.

Currently.
With some CD Burning software it states that if the CD player you are
going to use to play an Audio CD DOES NOT support CD text and you Burn a CD on
CD-R or CD-RW with the CD text support option turned on then it might not play.

My Girlfriends sony portable CD player is only a year old and will not play
any CD-R's I burn for her. Yet they play fine on every other
deck or even those really cheap players for 30/40 quid.

It worries me a little as in my spare time I write a music/fashion magazine which
I intend to feature a compilation on MD and or CD (CD-R).
I dont want poeple coming back to me with the CD telling me it does not
play on their CD player.
laughing Try telling them its not the media after buying my magazine.

Not so. My General Electrics DVD player cannot read audio CDs I burn onto
CD-RW. There are DVD burners available, but they run in the neighborhood of
about 5000$ each, and that's not counting the expensive and
processor-intensive software that you have to use to compress movies onto
DVDs.

...but that's for another forum altogether...

I do so like the MD-L list manager. Wish it would strip the quoted
unreadable stuff, though :).

WinAmp and XMMS have configuration options that allow you to set the "gap"
between tracks to any length you want. If you set it to something like 5
or 6 seconds you will ensure that the recorder catches the gap and pause.

Now, what I recomend doing is, if you have a CD or DVD player with optical
output, use WinAmp (or whatever) to convert to PCM WAVs, and burn CD-Rs or
CD-RWs with Nero. I like Nero over CDRWIN because I can easilly set the
intertrack gap to whatever I want, and has an on the fly rec level
normalization filter. Very spiffy.

Some DVDs are marketed as "CD-R ready" or boast "dual-discrete pickup".
Don't ask me what DDP is, but I know that it allows you to read burnt CDs.

CDs and DVDs seem to each have their shortcomings, which is why I think a
lot of us subscribed to this list... :)

I wrote a simple VB program to generate a playlist for Winamp. It will
insert a 6 seconds silence wave file between track in the playlist. email me
