better still, put it IN the washing machine on a spin cycle big grin

2000-03-26 Thread Guy Churchill

I took my troubled R91 to the Mr Bungle show in Sydney on Friday night and
recorded two MD's with no problems what-so-ever. Now i don't get it.

Maybe the dude at the sound desk stuffed up that night.

Another Idea

Most portable recorders will only take a certain amount of shock (vibrations), before
they will stop recording. If this was relatively loud concert the vribrations
may have caused the MZ-R91 to stop recording. Continous vibrations are just
as likely to cause a recorder to drop out of recording mode as droping it on the floor.
(as the heads never get a quiet time to realign for recording .. regardless how
many seconds of shock memory are available).

Experiment with your MZ-R91 to see what it takes (vibration wise) to cause it to drop
out of
record mode ... (sit in on the washing machine in spin cycle, on top of a speaker
playing
loud bass signals, on the bonnet of a rough idling car ... just a few ideas).

It could be the vibration problem ... or maybe LarZ is right .. the sound desk dude
just
simply stuffed up !!!

yeah those are all reasonable explanations but not in my situation...
i was watching the MD unit, no one went near it, it was recording
from my own microphones, not the desk... also it was a small gig in
a small pub, not very loud at all...

Unless it's some kind of interference (which is possible but unlikely), and
assuming your MZ-R91 is in perfect working order, I'd just chalk this incident
up to a FON. (Freak of Nature :) ...

i might muck around with it at home with my desk and pa equipment...
see if anything interferes with it...

Cheers GC [To err is human, but to foul things up completely requires
a computer] :)

Very unusual to say the least. Call Sony's service department and ask for
the senior technician (who would be in a better position to assess your
problem, IMHO). I think there could be a simple but silly fault with the
unit, and fortunately, your international warranty will cover it (though not
your labour costs if it's outside the 3 month period ... unless their
international warranty has changed, I believe it's 90 days labour and 12
months parts).

Adios,
LarZ

Hi I don't know if anyone can help me with this problem but it's starting to
really worry me.

[snip!]

Do i ring Sony in Australia about this? I bought it from MiniDiscWeb in Hong
Kong and it's got an international warranty. Or is there some mode i can use
to reset the 'internals' of this thing (i've got no idea about test modes or
anything like that.
