RE: MD: MDCP animated banners?
Rick, I agree with you. The page is very functional and useful as it is. Animated gifs would definitely distract from that. -- Martin -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Eric Woudenberg Several suppliers have wished to provide animated banners for the MDCP. - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: MD: MDCP animated banners?
I am firmly against animated banners: - They slow down load times on pages *drastically* - They are distracting and more often than not, annoying - It's one step away from "Flash" banners which are even more annoying - They are difficult to police - you need to set a limit on file size or you'll get some HUGE banners - biggest I've seen was 265kbytes. - They make a site look tacky. The new York times may well have them - that doesn't make it a good site. I'm the stodgy old-fashioned type when it comes to mixing video game technology with reading material and prefer to keep the page free of visual distractions. Several suppliers have wished to provide animated banners for the What the heck, go with the banners and move it up to the 21st century. Generally I'm against Animated Banners (who clicks on them anyway?) But I'll concede to them if : A). They are content related (no "punch the monkey"). and B). They do not influence download time of the page (ie they download as the last object ... not the first). Cheers GC Merry Xmas and a Happy Y2K to all of you ... see you next year. - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
