Neither Moblin IVI nor MeeGo IVI is intended for Moorestown. Moorestown is a
handset chipset, IVI is for embedded Automotive systems.

[MeeGo-dev] Alternative keyboard layout in MeeGo

Hi all,

I am using Neo2 as my standard keyboard layout. Is or will it be
possible to change the layout for hardware keyboards e.g. on N900 and
on-screen keyboards from quertz (or german querty) to some alternative
layout?

Who is "we" Are there any Nokia, Intel or external people currently
working on devel docs anywhere other than the wiki? Or will the docs get
done directly in the wiki? Have there been any discussions of who's
going to lead the documentation working group (if there's going to be a
working group)?

Ah - I hadn't realised the SDK mailing list was for application
developers - I instinctively would have assumed that the sdk list is
about developing the core SDK, and the meego-dev list would be more
general development.

Good to know.

Cheers,
Dave.

Ya, it has turned many individual contributors down especially after this

So if you are open project , why this openness to selected vendors.

We are still preparing the developer documentation for the first MeeGo release.
The information currently available can be found at

Note that meego-dev focuses in the development of MeeGo itself. Support for

Great to see this, Carsten! I know that a number of people on a number
of projects on a number of occasions (myself included) have been
frustrated by one or more of the items you've very carefully laid out
here, so I think this is a constructive, good way forward.

Also constructive. I don't think public naming and shaming (at this
point) is going to get anything helpful done - a lot of things are
still very much in a transitional phase, and some people involved in
MeeGo at this point doubtless need a little help to become better OSS
citizens. I think setting a public 'best practice' and privately
poking people when they don't conform to it will be a good first step.
A lot of the reason this might not have been happening as much as is
desired so far is down to inertia - at least, I hope this is the
reason.

[MeeGo-dev] Proposal for Best Practices for working in a MeeGo team

2010-04-15 Thread Carsten Munk
I have put together a proposal for best practices for working in a
MeeGo team. Quoting my foreword:

This is a DRAFT proposal for TSG eventually to consider, in order to
encourage or establish policy of best practices for working should be
like for MeeGo groups, teams, WGs, appointed groups of people. In the
following, team/group/WGs/appointed groups of people is shorted to
'team'.

Instead of pointing out how each team is doing it wrong and each and
every problem, it was cooked down to this proposal, so we can have
something to point to when things aren't being as open as it should be
- which is effectively blocking public R&D as intended.

These simple Do's and Don'ts were supposed to be obvious, but we are
not seeing this happen in practice, hence this proposal. The scope of
these practices is any team organised underneath the MeeGo umbrella
which works with the public MeeGo project.

The proposal can be found at:

http://wiki.meego.com/Proposal_for_Best_Practices_for_working_in_a_MeeGo_team

Comments/changes/constructive criticism are welcome. My hope is to get
it tabled for next TSG meeting (Wed. 21 april 2010) as a policy
decision, with emphasis on that henceforth teams should operate with
best practices.

We are seeing a lot of secrecy and non-public development which is
effectively harming the project and I personally think that TSG should
lead the way and point out this is not how things are supposed to be.

Instead of ranting over and over on issues and cases, let us tackle
this problem early, directly and constructively. We're supposed to do
public R&D between many different individuals and companies - not only
R&D between Nokia and Intel and those contractually involved with
them.

Please keep responses related to the proposal, don't let it become a flamewar.

Carsten Munk

well, i can answer for the KDE side: our goal is to make possible a build of
Plasma with a minimum amount of KDElibs. since some pieces of KDElibs (and its
dependencies) are specifically useful just in a desktop scenario.
in the kde-core-devel mailinglist there a discussion right now on what ro
remove and how.

i didn't exactly understood if those are exactly the plans, but, that's what
we really would like to avoid, because there is a lot more to share than just
the Qt libraries

Ah, qml, that's an interesting part i forgotten in my original email :)
In the end, QML generates items that will go in a QGraphicsview, so we already
started to look at an itegration with the existing Plasma library.
actually, the Plasma Mobile shell that can be seen in some of the videos i
linked already usues QML to manage soe of its animations.
it's really easy to mix part of the ui written in qml with other parts r even
better, bind a previously existent widget set as elements in QML (and some
modifications in qml are being done expliitly to make this easier), this will
ensure while maintaining the coherent look and feel of an already done widget
set and theme look, you have the ease of use of designing the ui with QML

For the moment, I believe we should be less formal although as the community
grows I can definitely see the call for a formal working group.

I plan on reviewing security aspects of MeeGo more broadly with the
community. If you're on this list and would specifically like to be
included in any security discussions, please let me know. While I've been
doing product security at Intel for many years, I definitely want to work
with this community and can also use all the help I can get!
